Looks like they're flickn nuts!

1 day ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

she knows what you like and will do it within a tolerance of 1 micron

1 day ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 0

None of those nuts are tightened. Not even "finger tight." Useless.

11 hours ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Super cool. Now have the robot pull a nut from a pile, and thread it. Otherwise I have an impact wrench faster than its finger.

It was at this point that I stopped saying "i could do that faster" and just went "oh fuck you."

I hope this becomes a popular reaction gif

Why stop at five fingers? Give it seven with two opposable digits.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

1 day ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

that is the best meme response

“In every way, of course. I am programed in multiple techniques. A broad variety of pleasuring.”

For the non-nerds...she is a known robot banger.

Robots have been faster and more precise than humans since forever.

1 day ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

John Henry is rolling in his grave

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes this is true - though up to now that's only been the case in places like factory settings, where the factory is specifically made only for one application, and set up for specialized robots. The (potential) game-changer here is making a robot that can function well in a setting that's been made 100% for humans (e.g. our homes).

18 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

(Definitely *not* proposing this as a good thing BTW - think Wall-E)

18 hours ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure, but there's no indication that the robots in the video aren't just created to do those exact motions they do, making them no different from what we've had for decades. It's the same with similar videos that are passed around every month or so. They just show a closeup of an artificial hand doing some simple task, and proclaim "game-changer!" with no evidence that there's anything actually new there.

we are all going to DIE!

1 day ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

I have mad peace with the fact I will not die surrounded by friends and family on some death bed. I may die of starvation, poverty, exposure or maybe being drug out of my house and shot for my political beliefs or voting record. Quite possibly shot by some overzealous cop when an acorn bounces off my car and he suddenly fears for his life. If the midterms are stolen and our democracy becomes more of a sham than it is - anything, not good, is on the table and I dont think this is hyperbole

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Of course we are, tiny friend. It's just a matter of when and how.

When it can do an appendectomy, call me.

really, my appendix is inflamed and is about to burst.

can't afford a human doctor, can only afford bot surgeon.

Emergency rooms are obligated to treat you, regardless of ability to pay.

1 day ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Tell that to Lisa Edwards. A 60 year old woman who complained she was having a stroke, not her first mind you, and was "treated" at two different hospitals. The first said she was having constipation. The second observed her overnight and released her saying she was fine. Police were called to arrest her for trespass and she died, of a stroke, on the way to the jail. https://www.wate.com/news/top-stories/lisa-edwards-federal-lawsuit-against-knoxville-police-hospital/

Almost there...

Beat me to it. Great find.
There’s a GITS museum in Japan now.. just fyi. Exit through the gift shop.

As cool as that scene was, I was just thinking "why not just plug a cable in?"

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Reminds me of Rick and Morty, the jungle lady tagging animals :D

1 day ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Risk a virus or getting R2-D2'd. I sure wouldn't wanna connect my brain to a computer infected by a "puppetmaster"

15 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Wouldn't look as cool.

1 day ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Yeah, that's probably why.

1 day ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Risk of invasion/hackering his brain, perhaps? He was a high rank official, if I remember correctly.

1 day ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

In SAC, I'm pretty sure the eminently disposable robots Section 9 used in their mission centre also used these fingers. It's just a rule of cool thing, I think.

1 day ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Horseshit. They might be faster at repeating this one task, but they're not more precise than human hands.

1 day ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 3

Yea, and this is one piece of footage with how many failed shoots inside a controlled environment. Honestly someone could have preprogrammed every tiny movement for it to do itself.

1 day ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I mean most of those nuts I could get down fater than that. The wingnut it would probably beat me at.

15 hours ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly. Now do it while stabilizing an unmoored bolt with the other hand.

1 day ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Yeah, demos like these are always exhaustively trained to do one task in laboratory conditions. The machine this hand is attached to can't come to your house and tighten any bolts unless you hire the team of scientists to come measure your house to extreme precision and spend a month retraining it.

Even assuming this machine can do this one task reliably (press X), trivial unexpected variables would render it useless again. Anyone had a Roomba get stuck under furniture?

1 day ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Millions of dollars in development later, the team of engineers managed to make a hand that worked about 75% as well as an untrained human's in 40% of situations. The human charges 10 bucks an hour and outnumbers the robot hand a billionfold.
