And this is why we will lose. This is why Democrats ALWAYS lose. We are trying to be the 'better people' against a party that doesn't care about morals at all. We are trying to play the game by the old rules, which no else is following, and then we act upset when the rigged game turns against us.
When is enough enough? When are we going to star fighting back on equal footing with those that don't care how dirty you fight?
This is how America dies. Republicans going full on fascist evil, literally publishing a full on manifesto of the evil things they're going to do (project 2025), and Democrats are too worried about doing the right thing and morality to stop it. Starting with Biden and his entire family. Trump is so vindictive that it is well within the realms of possibility that the day after inauguration, he will lock up Joe, then Hunter, and proceed from there
When Saddam came into power, he told everyone how things were going to be, then went through the room seeing who was with him and who was getting escorted outside to a firing squad. That's gonna be Trump's first day in office. He'll want the grand inauguration parade. But, he'll quickly follow up with a swing by Congress and a firing squad outside.
News Flash 1/29/2025: In a new ruling, SCOTUS announces in a 6-3 verdict that Biden is not immune from anything. The only President or ex-President with immunity is Donald Trump
No, they simply decide it wasn't an "official act", so he gets locked up. That's why they put that line in, they get to decide what was or wasn't an official act on the fly.

JFC. This. This right here is why the Dems get their asses handed to them on a regular basis. They act so high and mighty like hitting below the belt is somehow beneath them. What Biden should do is push the house and Senate to enact a bill restricting the president's authority back to being within the law, then say he'll have a random rep (maybe a scotus judge) killed for every day it doesn't occur
This is starting to get more and more frustrating every day. One party openly says fuck your freedoms you belong to us. The other says we want to give you everything you should have to survive except apparently democracy.
If Biden goes wild, that’s it for America. That’s why he’s not going wild. He loves America and is hoping the people finally rise up and vote in numbers to end this shit once and for all.
Absolutely appropriate. Biden believes the SCOTUS was wrong and isn’t going to violate his strongly held beliefs to prove them wrong. We need to get DEMs more power in Congress to pass laws limiting the presidency.
I know that everybody wants Joe to use this newfound power to violently remove certain people but couldn't he actually use this power for good like restoring abortion rights, dismissing student debt, undoing gerrymandering, and the like or does the "Supreme" Court tell him that he can only use this power for evil and not for good?
Well the problem is, is that, unless I'm mistaken, NONE of the SC Justices are voted in, IE we can't vote them out, and to remove them, I believe is a lot of red tape, right? So unless we get a Dem in there, that actually wants to be progressive, IE someone the even the DEM Party won't like (ie see how they tanked Bernie), and that isn't just coasting off of "At Least I'm Not Trump!" It's just going to be more of the "Middle of The Road", "Don't Rock The Boat" BS.
They're not talking about Biden placing new members on the Court. He doesn't have the power to do that and today's ruling doesn't change anything.
What the Court said is that Biden can't be charged for doing official acts that are crimes. The only new options open to him are crimes. Murder, false detention, torture, coercion--that sort of thing.
That's what this post is asking Biden to do, ostensibly so he could prevent Republicans from gaining those powers in the election.

The Supreme Court is in the middle of a power grab, and since Biden won't do anything, they can continue grabbing power. Their next ruling may decide that Biden can't control the courts at all
Now its just a matter of time. Sure we might stop Trump, sure we might stop the next one or two that take his place. But one will get through that pretends to be reasonable just like these justices. And we're all fucked.
Do you, at this point, think it matters if Trump wins or loses the election? If the Biden administration doesn't take immediate action the result will be fixed and it will be final.
I want to be clear: this is too much power for anyone. However I think he should reluctantly utilize it to solidify that it can never be used afterwards. But yes, he's running out of time to do anything with it and the first person who wants to abuse this power that makes to that seat with this supreme court in 12, 20, however many years will go all out with that power. Trump being elected just speeds it up, it's a ticking clock
Every single country that has or will ever exist is temporary. All founding or upholding a country has *ever* done is buy people more time. More time to live in peace, prosperity, security, or freedom. It'll all crumble eventually and people will need to rebuild again. The survivors anyhow. Stopping Trump this time will likely buy you four years. And hopefully we can manage it again after that.
I'm done with this country. I've been done with it for years. I think I have the ability to migrate with my wife, though she is skeptical of the possibility so she doesn't like talking about it. But everytime crazy news hits she says something about leaving, I give her a look that means "are you ready to get serious about this", then she waves me off and says "I know I know"
and then I try to imagine how desperate other people are in Venezuela, for instance, that they brave the Darién Straight to come here, while we're all fantasizing about bailing out from here ourselves. not to belittle the crap here, just that, man, it doesn't seem like there's really any safe havens anywhere. there's shitty people no matter where you go and I feel bad for people coming here just to find out it's not all that Hollywood makes it out to be.
I don't mean to sound aggressive, but it might come across that way, sorry. The "it's shitty everywhere" mentality pisses me right the fuck off. I know so many people that bemoan the "we're #1" crowd and are able to talk about how bad we are when it comes to healthcare & education, then the moment I bring up moving they say "well it's shitty everywhere".
Ok, but it's not equally shitty everywhere. In fact in response to this I made a document to rank countries from least to most shitty ->
I have to agree, and it was pissing me off as well, but having lived in one such country that was heaved into instability via the direct actions of the US, it's hard to keep the flame lit when you get to live the disillusioned squalor first hand. People still get by and make the best of it for the most part, but the point I'm trying to get across is that there are anglophiles that picture the US as a beacon of hope but come through hell and high water to find that the grass is only a tad greener
Like, here's an actual example: I was babysitting for a family that was obsessed with US culture to the point that I realized what it must be for an average joe in Japan to meet a frothing weeb. the *first* time my place was robbed she was all "if this were in the US the police could use the computers to find them and get your stuff back, I saw it on CSI!" and i was like "...
Economics Education Healthcare Political corruption Climate change Happiness Freedom Safety Human Development Index
USA came in at #21 (Venezuela is #121) So there are potential better places to live.
I'm getting older. I've voted, I've protested, I've volunteered, and I've talked to my representatives. Now I want to go somewhere where I'm not afraid of going bankrupt if I get sick, alongside all the concerns implied by the categories above.
If he did something drastic and meaningful, he could actually engage the left and draw in the voters who are refusing to support him right now because he chases the middle.
He needs to go far enough to END Donald Trump, end SCOTUS' current era, and end the GOP. Then nope out of a second term, forcing both parties to select new candidates for the election. Problem fucking solved at a more fundamental level, and will keep fascism at bay for more than four years.
He has to survive until November to get reelected. At this point, he's pretty much a walking corpse who still has some of his mental faculties, but with a completely inept backup running against a mentally challenged, highly narcissistic walking corpse. This is a big fucking problem that should never have been allowed to happen.
Americans are piling on you with the downvotes, but I for one can't find flaw in your assertion. The far right has been working towards this day ever since Reagan and the not so far right (ie, Dems) have done fuck all except complain on social media. The 'left' are just not organised.
Biden is an old-school politician who concerns about his own legacy in history above all else; Trump, on the other hand, only cares about himself, his pocket, Putin and others who he indebted to. That's why Biden will hold back and let GOP and Putin kill the democracy.
I’m not. I do not want an authoritarian president, including one who agrees with me politically. Amazed at how many supposedly lefty, power-to-the-people folks are desperate for a strong leader to come in and impose their will. WE are the solution.
Stop being like the childlike MAGA and looking for a big daddy to swoop in and fix things for you. This November’s elections decide whether this corrupt Court stands, and WE decide the elections.
Why is this clearheaded sensibility being down voted in the midst of all the hair-trigger foaming at the mouth? Either you're for democracy or you're a savage.
Because first of all, GP -and you, apparently - doesn't have a fucking clue. The coming elections have absolutely zero impact on scotus. The best you can hope for is for the democrats to have a sufficient majority that impeaching the cunts is a viable strategy, and that isn't happening.
How about you the American People get up and do something too instead of waiting for miracles to be served on a silver spoon while you guys do little more than meme about your issues. There are 330 million of you. If the majority of you don't want your freedoms and democracy taken from you, it's now or never to start fuckin acting like it.
My guy, people still get hurt feelings pretty much anytime I suggest not being civil to fascists. I'm not sure what one person revolution you expect me to lead.
I'm venting my frustration at a population which prefers to make memes about losing their freedom and democracy rather than get up and do what every other population does to protect said freedoms and democracy, being organising, mobilising and showing a collective backbone against Nazis. The time you spend here is time you could be spending on organising with your people. Use the time you have, while you have it, which by the looks of it is only a few more months.
lmao if the insurrections got jail time imagine what'll happen to the other half for doing anything remotely similar. got a preview of it during BLM protests, in Chicago they actually raised the bridges and stranded people to corral them like cattle. As connected as we are in this information age, I can't help but think most people feel alone in wanting a modicum of agency to enact positive change.
Populations around the world have organised and mobilised to defend their freedoms, their democracies, their country's very existence in some cases. The American People need to stop thinking as individuals and do as the rest of us do around the world. Think and act as "A People". Act collectively, not just in towns or states. Act together across the country. Send a message to leadership, to the Trump supporters, to the world.
It said he can't be charged with crimes. That doesn't mean he can't be impeached and removed. If impeached the military wouldn't listen to him, so he'd be powerless.
Naw. The military can ignore a president's order. They'll be court martialed, but we definitely want the military to ignore a crazy order from the president like nuking another country for no reason. They'd then have to defend themselves in court and to congress, but I feel like congress would be on their side.
When has that ever happened? Since WWII all of our wars were unjust. The military never said "Naw, that's immoral" not one single time. Maybe against our own people... maybe they might. But I forgot where this thread started.
I said illegal, not immoral. Presidents use authorizations from congress for those wars, making them legal. Congress has not authorized murdering American judges. So that is not legal
If he goes off the rails and starts to do illegal things, I hope Dems would do the right thing and remove him. The GOP might stand for that, but I don't.
Nah, the Dems should sling the same level of garbage that the GOP does, and be more competent in doing so, and not relent unless the GOP agrees to cooperate so that they can pass laws and amendments preventing BOTH SIDES from doing the thing. That's how this should work. If both sides are allowed to do the thing, both sides SHOULD do the thing.
You guys can keep fantasizing about this crazy scenario that won't ever happen. No elected Democrat is talking like you guys are talking, so it won't happen. But if that makes you guys feel better, cool, I guess?
We're literally at the point where Biden needs to start abusing the power to save the world. republicans get in total control than millions of people die around the world. Project 2025 lists concentration camps as a goal. Russia will start getting arms packages from the US and war will spill out of Ukraine probably starting a massive war in Europe. I don't know what I hate more, that we've reached this point or knowing that Biden is gonna follow the rules and let it all happen.
This seems like some Russian bot shit, it's not on a single person to fix this situation, because if Biden does abuse his powers we're still fucked for the foreseeable future. All the more reason to go out and vote and make sure your voice is heard
That doesn't apply here. If GOP win the election and Democrats refuse to let them take over. Then democracy is dead. The only difference is who gets to be the dictator.
Biden commands the military. Not the House or Senate. He can issue an executive order declaring the Supreme Court invalid and use the military to have them removed from their offices. No congressional approval necessary. He won’t, of course. He’s not strong or brave enough, but it’s what he could and should do.
Biden's literally had people killed (they were Terrorists, probably Al Quaeda or something) using that new hellfire missile that uses swords instead of explosive
So he shouldn't have any objection to fighting a little dirty, I mean he's responsible for saving America if he can, republican voters already think he's some kinda crime lord so it shouldn't make any difference if he were to just have trump killed, I know he won't but he could)
It’s not the use of force that scares him, it’s the breaking of established norms. He’s so determined to cling to an obsolete status quo that he won’t do *anything* that might upset it.
I’m going to be honest: If I was a lower judge, I’d interpret the Supreme Court ruling thusly: “An illegal order may not be followed, therefore an illegal act is not official. The supreme court’s ruling is for legal acts that are declared illegal by later laws, not by acts that were illegal at the time committed.”
Issue an executive order invalidating the current Supreme Court, order the military to forcefully remove them from their posts, and appoint a new slate of justices in their place. To keep it fair, he can draw the new appointees from both sides of the spectrum.
The military won't. UCMJ actually requires them to ignore illegal orders. The SCOTUS ruling never said it makes what the POTUS does legal, it just said he can't be criminally charged. So orders he give can still be illegal. Military won't listen.
to have a quorum in the house you need 218 members, I think you can see where I'm going with this and just how mind numbingly stupid this supreme court decision is
They want him to turn into the monster they see Donny as. "Strike hum down! Then your journey to the dark side will be complete!" kinda vibe. But that's not the right answer. The right answer is to VOTE in masses and numbers nobody believes is possible. Send Donny packing for his crimes. We the people choose our president - and we can reject Donny, just like we did in 2020.
t's the electoral college that decides, isn't it? sure, they're expected to vote in line with their constituents' popular vote, but there's nothing keeping them from doing otherwise. in all factual honesty, the popular vote just sends a message about the public's vibes, it's not binding whatsoever. literally, if no eligible civilian voter cast a single ballot, as in a 100% naton-wide boycott, the deed would still be done by the electoral college. yes, we pick local gov, but not president.
Most states have laws requiring the electoral college to vote for the winner of the popular vote in that state - that's why we certify electors. Deviations from that do happen, but they are few and far between and have never been sufficient to change the outcome of an election. The peril isn't individual false electors - it;s gerrymandering and trolls trying to convince folks on social media that Donny has already won, don't bother trying.
that's good to know, shame it's not federally mandated, but it's better than nothing and somewhat redeeming for morale. careful with those last three words, though, assumptions and all that.
It absolutely is the right answer. You can't play by the rules if your opponent isn't going to and expect to win. This is not hyperbole, democracy is under threat.
We had a global pandemic that significantly helped us in 2020. In fact it's THE reason Biden won at all. There's no Pandemic now and Biden is refusing to use the only card he has to play. It doesn't matter how hard you scream about voting, we will lose. We keep playing the 'better person moral high ground' card and we KEEP LOSING. The Right and everyone else is ignoring the old rules and playing how they want. And then because we don't fight back we cry because the rigged game turned against us.
He could hold 6 SCOTUS justices under house arrest, as an official act. They would, of course, have rights to sue. The remaining 3 justices then either can choose to uphold the precedent set today, or overturn it. If overturned, the 6 justices return to their jobs, but they will be less likely to try again. Especially since the next time, it won't end with "arrest."
I don't think any member of law enforcement would follow that order. POTUS is immune, but that doesn't make everyone else below him immune. Nixon was never charged for Watergate, but people below him were.
That would go nowhere. Need two thirds in the senate. This is just like the people on the right that have promised to impeach Biden. The right impeached Bidens homeland security secretary a few months ago. It went nowhere. It's just to fire up the base. It's not to actually accomplish anything, because they know it won't do anything.
How? Congress has to confirm justices. There is just no mechanism for Biden to do it. Nobody would listen to him. The key to the ruling is it has to be something the president has the power to do. I get your point, if it's something Biden can do, like control the military. But he has no power over SCOTUS.
According to SCOTUS, the president can do anything in their existing line of power to uphold the constitution; arguably, anything can be "to protect the country", especially when SCOTUS also rules that you can't question the president's motives.
Ordering the military to kill a terrorist is already within the president's power (per SCOTUS) - that's a method right there. 🤷♂️ And as others mentioned, simply acting quickly would cause enough chaos to jam up the opposition.
We don’t want blood, we want *action*. The nation is dying and someone needs to DO something to save it. We all have different ideas about what that something is, and some of the proposed solutions are violent, but it’s not because we’re bloodthirsty, it’s because we recognize that if something isn’t done, we’re fucked.
Look I agree fully. Shits fucked and the dems aren’t even trying. So stop saying “I’d vote for a literal corpse over Trump.” … the DNC knows this. Maga knows this. The whole world knows this. They produced a literal corpse because that’s what you asked for. The election is almost certainly a loss because of it. Time to start organizing for 2028. All the centrist dems need enegage beyond a ballot once every four years, and to start voting harrrrd left.
If he used the military and had brass support he could simply assassinate them like Putin does. The current military leaders probably would not issue that order. Trump has talked about replacing them with sycophants who will do whatever he asks. People need to be way more worried than they currently are. Every election from here on out, we will have to decide on who is less likely to become a dictator before considering policy or anything else. That's if it isn't over already.

If imgur is going to start promoting acting like MAGA terrorist i'm gonna have to find another place to look at cute pictures of dogs and cats.

Malloon
Every single country that has or will ever exist is temporary. All founding or upholding a country has *ever* done is buy people more time. More time to live in peace, prosperity, security, or freedom. It'll all crumble eventually and people will need to rebuild again. The survivors anyhow. Stopping Trump this time will likely buy you four years. And hopefully we can manage it again after that.
Merdock
I'm done with this country. I've been done with it for years. I think I have the ability to migrate with my wife, though she is skeptical of the possibility so she doesn't like talking about it. But everytime crazy news hits she says something about leaving, I give her a look that means "are you ready to get serious about this", then she waves me off and says "I know I know"

I have been trying but it doesn't seem to be possible. Suicide is my other option

and then I try to imagine how desperate other people are in Venezuela, for instance, that they brave the Darién Straight to come here, while we're all fantasizing about bailing out from here ourselves. not to belittle the crap here, just that, man, it doesn't seem like there's really any safe havens anywhere. there's shitty people no matter where you go and I feel bad for people coming here just to find out it's not all that Hollywood makes it out to be.
Merdock
I don't mean to sound aggressive, but it might come across that way, sorry. The "it's shitty everywhere" mentality pisses me right the fuck off. I know so many people that bemoan the "we're #1" crowd and are able to talk about how bad we are when it comes to healthcare & education, then the moment I bring up moving they say "well it's shitty everywhere".
Ok, but it's not equally shitty everywhere. In fact in response to this I made a document to rank countries from least to most shitty ->
mixiekins
I have to agree, and it was pissing me off as well, but having lived in one such country that was heaved into instability via the direct actions of the US, it's hard to keep the flame lit when you get to live the disillusioned squalor first hand. People still get by and make the best of it for the most part, but the point I'm trying to get across is that there are anglophiles that picture the US as a beacon of hope but come through hell and high water to find that the grass is only a tad greener
mixiekins
Like, here's an actual example: I was babysitting for a family that was obsessed with US culture to the point that I realized what it must be for an average joe in Japan to meet a frothing weeb. the *first* time my place was robbed she was all "if this were in the US the police could use the computers to find them and get your stuff back, I saw it on CSI!" and i was like "...
Merdock
This covered how countries scored/ranked in:
Economics
Education
Healthcare
Political corruption
Climate change
Happiness
Freedom
Safety
Human Development Index
USA came in at #21 (Venezuela is #121)
So there are potential better places to live.
I'm getting older. I've voted, I've protested, I've volunteered, and I've talked to my representatives. Now I want to go somewhere where I'm not afraid of going bankrupt if I get sick, alongside all the concerns implied by the categories above.

Which country is your number one?
waeraj
If he goes too far rn he won't be reelected. He needs to get reelected before he starts fuckin shit up
worm61
If he did something drastic and meaningful, he could actually engage the left and draw in the voters who are refusing to support him right now because he chases the middle.
NKato
He needs to go far enough to END Donald Trump, end SCOTUS' current era, and end the GOP. Then nope out of a second term, forcing both parties to select new candidates for the election. Problem fucking solved at a more fundamental level, and will keep fascism at bay for more than four years.
ElbowDeepInAllTheThings
He has to survive until November to get reelected. At this point, he's pretty much a walking corpse who still has some of his mental faculties, but with a completely inept backup running against a mentally challenged, highly narcissistic walking corpse. This is a big fucking problem that should never have been allowed to happen.
autodidacticcortex
He’s already lost his marbles dude. Duck the election who’s setting the policy and who’s controlling the nukes?
Dracon27
Okay Donald.
TsubakiTragic
Americans are piling on you with the downvotes, but I for one can't find flaw in your assertion. The far right has been working towards this day ever since Reagan and the not so far right (ie, Dems) have done fuck all except complain on social media. The 'left' are just not organised.
Dracon27
The 'Left' has no party backing to actually enact change.
mksu
The constitutionally appointed SCOTUS just said you have no limits, so for the love of god, go wild. Please. We are begging you.
OnyxTurret
Biden, be the good guy with a gun now.
Ikusame
no limits unless they say its a limit. In other words, they just gave themselves power over the executive branch.
J3lek
by all laws all the way back to the Constitution. Biden is now king of America. Thanks to Trump's scouts appointments
GlobalImageServiceCat
Biden is an old-school politician who concerns about his own legacy in history above all else; Trump, on the other hand, only cares about himself, his pocket, Putin and others who he indebted to. That's why Biden will hold back and let GOP and Putin kill the democracy.
WellIfIHaveTo
Oogibah
Yes and if Donald Trump gets elected oh no, no more democracy, we'll at least we gave it the old college try right guys?
PeebRow
Why is this clearheaded sensibility being down voted in the midst of all the hair-trigger foaming at the mouth? Either you're for democracy or you're a savage.
ArmedandOverclocked
because its only fascism when other people do it, but when "they" do it its justified.
Blanks56
Because everything is gone as soon as Trump or another like him gains power. Dems have been taking the high road and now it's over.
vegivamp
Because first of all, GP -and you, apparently - doesn't have a fucking clue. The coming elections have absolutely zero impact on scotus. The best you can hope for is for the democrats to have a sufficient majority that impeaching the cunts is a viable strategy, and that isn't happening.
neptix
I want to see the goddamn death squads going after not only Trump, but the supreme court as well.
KleptoKea
How about you the American People get up and do something too instead of waiting for miracles to be served on a silver spoon while you guys do little more than meme about your issues. There are 330 million of you. If the majority of you don't want your freedoms and democracy taken from you, it's now or never to start fuckin acting like it.
mksu
My guy, people still get hurt feelings pretty much anytime I suggest not being civil to fascists. I'm not sure what one person revolution you expect me to lead.
KleptoKea
I said you the American People, not you the individual.
mksu
Yeah, but you're still ultimately just lecturing me, the individual.
KleptoKea
I'm venting my frustration at a population which prefers to make memes about losing their freedom and democracy rather than get up and do what every other population does to protect said freedoms and democracy, being organising, mobilising and showing a collective backbone against Nazis. The time you spend here is time you could be spending on organising with your people. Use the time you have, while you have it, which by the looks of it is only a few more months.
mixiekins
lmao if the insurrections got jail time imagine what'll happen to the other half for doing anything remotely similar. got a preview of it during BLM protests, in Chicago they actually raised the bridges and stranded people to corral them like cattle. As connected as we are in this information age, I can't help but think most people feel alone in wanting a modicum of agency to enact positive change.
KleptoKea
Populations around the world have organised and mobilised to defend their freedoms, their democracies, their country's very existence in some cases. The American People need to stop thinking as individuals and do as the rest of us do around the world. Think and act as "A People". Act collectively, not just in towns or states. Act together across the country. Send a message to leadership, to the Trump supporters, to the world.
sambaah05
It said he can't be charged with crimes. That doesn't mean he can't be impeached and removed. If impeached the military wouldn't listen to him, so he'd be powerless.
MrSpookywasagoodboy2
He has to be removed for the military to ignore him
sambaah05
Naw. The military can ignore a president's order. They'll be court martialed, but we definitely want the military to ignore a crazy order from the president like nuking another country for no reason. They'd then have to defend themselves in court and to congress, but I feel like congress would be on their side.
MrSpookywasagoodboy2
When has that ever happened? Since WWII all of our wars were unjust. The military never said "Naw, that's immoral" not one single time. Maybe against our own people... maybe they might. But I forgot where this thread started.
sambaah05
I said illegal, not immoral. Presidents use authorizations from congress for those wars, making them legal. Congress has not authorized murdering American judges. So that is not legal
mksu
Just means he has to act faster than the House, which is completely doable.
sambaah05
What lasting thing could he accomplish that would be worth getting impeached?
Hank1
Why can't he just arrest the House? Problem solved.
SecondSince
Now you're thinking with supreme authority!
stoutde
Just ship all the military equipment to Ukraine first so the military has none left, problem solved.
sambaah05
Ok cool
Callynd
Democrats still control 50% of the Senate. He can't be removed.
sambaah05
If he goes off the rails and starts to do illegal things, I hope Dems would do the right thing and remove him. The GOP might stand for that, but I don't.
worm61
It’s actually ok to break the law to stop fascism.
mksu
The right thing to do is to stop fascism, not rigidly adhere to your principles so you can brag about how morally and ideologically pure you are.
sambaah05
Stop fascism by doing it yourself? Uhh... ok then. That aside, nobodies mentioned something Biden can actually do, that would help anything.
2074red2074
Nah, the Dems should sling the same level of garbage that the GOP does, and be more competent in doing so, and not relent unless the GOP agrees to cooperate so that they can pass laws and amendments preventing BOTH SIDES from doing the thing. That's how this should work. If both sides are allowed to do the thing, both sides SHOULD do the thing.
sambaah05
You guys can keep fantasizing about this crazy scenario that won't ever happen. No elected Democrat is talking like you guys are talking, so it won't happen. But if that makes you guys feel better, cool, I guess?
Rongeong
We're literally at the point where Biden needs to start abusing the power to save the world. republicans get in total control than millions of people die around the world. Project 2025 lists concentration camps as a goal. Russia will start getting arms packages from the US and war will spill out of Ukraine probably starting a massive war in Europe. I don't know what I hate more, that we've reached this point or knowing that Biden is gonna follow the rules and let it all happen.
thelonedrummer18
This seems like some Russian bot shit, it's not on a single person to fix this situation, because if Biden does abuse his powers we're still fucked for the foreseeable future. All the more reason to go out and vote and make sure your voice is heard
damogen
If Democrats turn fascist in order to stop the fascists then you still lost.
The ONLY way for democracy to win is for voters to clearly reject fascists.
Audasity
please see the paradox of tolerance
damogen
That doesn't apply here.
If GOP win the election and Democrats refuse to let them take over. Then democracy is dead.
The only difference is who gets to be the dictator.
Audasity
nobody is talking about not letting GOP take over if they win the election
Ikusame
The stuff people often say Biden needs to do is stuff he cant do without congress and senate approval.
worm61
Biden commands the military. Not the House or Senate. He can issue an executive order declaring the Supreme Court invalid and use the military to have them removed from their offices. No congressional approval necessary. He won’t, of course. He’s not strong or brave enough, but it’s what he could and should do.
demoncatmara
Biden's literally had people killed (they were Terrorists, probably Al Quaeda or something) using that new hellfire missile that uses swords instead of explosive
So he shouldn't have any objection to fighting a little dirty, I mean he's responsible for saving America if he can, republican voters already think he's some kinda crime lord so it shouldn't make any difference if he were to just have trump killed, I know he won't but he could)
worm61
It’s not the use of force that scares him, it’s the breaking of established norms. He’s so determined to cling to an obsolete status quo that he won’t do *anything* that might upset it.
BlindGardener
Yes, but now he can, as an official act, shoot congress, the senate, and the Supreme Court.
Ikusame
Except whether or not its an official act will go to the court. Right now its "Anything Biden does is unofficial, anything Trump does is official"
BlindGardener
I’m going to be honest: If I was a lower judge, I’d interpret the Supreme Court ruling thusly: “An illegal order may not be followed, therefore an illegal act is not official. The supreme court’s ruling is for legal acts that are declared illegal by later laws, not by acts that were illegal at the time committed.”
Alozar
I fail to see how that matters when the deed is already done.
onlyhalfghost
they can't take him to court for it until the people who would make that judgement have already been shot. It's getting do or die here, USA.
sambaah05
What do you propose he do?

sambaah05
I feel like congress would impeach if the president gave such an order.
worm61
Issue an executive order invalidating the current Supreme Court, order the military to forcefully remove them from their posts, and appoint a new slate of justices in their place. To keep it fair, he can draw the new appointees from both sides of the spectrum.
RyanH42
Send SEAL Team Six to Mar-A-Lago.
sambaah05
They would disobey that order.
RyanH42
Then they would be complicit in the destruction of democracy.
sambaah05
Ok.
Helpfullifetips
Remove every member of the Federalist society from the Judiciary.
Ikusame
He doesnt have this power.
sambaah05
How? Even illegally, there's not a way to do that. No one would listen. Only congress can do that.
worm61
The military would listen. They take orders from the commander-in-chief, not Congress.
sambaah05
The military won't. UCMJ actually requires them to ignore illegal orders. The SCOTUS ruling never said it makes what the POTUS does legal, it just said he can't be criminally charged. So orders he give can still be illegal. Military won't listen.
Helpfullifetips
You're no longer a judge if you're not alive.
sambaah05
And you are no longer president if you get impeached and convicted.
georgejimmydoodle
What Congress is going to impeach, much less convict a POTUS who can have them and their families killed?
Dracon27
The new ruling means anything within his Presidential Powers is immune. He's commander in chief, he must protect the nation from threats 1/
thrashingcows
But at least he takes care of one of the major problems before that. Called taking one for the USA and democracy!
Helpfullifetips
to have a quorum in the house you need 218 members, I think you can see where I'm going with this and just how mind numbingly stupid this supreme court decision is
evilspock
They want him to turn into the monster they see Donny as. "Strike hum down! Then your journey to the dark side will be complete!" kinda vibe. But that's not the right answer. The right answer is to VOTE in masses and numbers nobody believes is possible. Send Donny packing for his crimes. We the people choose our president - and we can reject Donny, just like we did in 2020.
mixiekins
t's the electoral college that decides, isn't it? sure, they're expected to vote in line with their constituents' popular vote, but there's nothing keeping them from doing otherwise. in all factual honesty, the popular vote just sends a message about the public's vibes, it's not binding whatsoever. literally, if no eligible civilian voter cast a single ballot, as in a 100% naton-wide boycott, the deed would still be done by the electoral college. yes, we pick local gov, but not president.
evilspock
Most states have laws requiring the electoral college to vote for the winner of the popular vote in that state - that's why we certify electors. Deviations from that do happen, but they are few and far between and have never been sufficient to change the outcome of an election. The peril isn't individual false electors - it;s gerrymandering and trolls trying to convince folks on social media that Donny has already won, don't bother trying.
mixiekins
that's good to know, shame it's not federally mandated, but it's better than nothing and somewhat redeeming for morale. careful with those last three words, though, assumptions and all that.

And then because we don't fight back we cry because the rigged game turned against us.
evilspock
Donny took abortion away fromhalf of the US. They won't forget that.
TinyOctopus
voting doesn't do anything to SCotUS. They need to expand the court or somehow, some justices need to be replaced. 2 at a minimum. 3 to be safe.
evilspock
At least. But step 1 is to vote in a supermajority, or the headcount reset will never happen.
SamaelQliphoth
Right, but voting get the people who can do those things into the positions necessary to do them. Its simple not a direct action to that end.
KerryCoder
He could hold 6 SCOTUS justices under house arrest, as an official act. They would, of course, have rights to sue. The remaining 3 justices then either can choose to uphold the precedent set today, or overturn it. If overturned, the 6 justices return to their jobs, but they will be less likely to try again. Especially since the next time, it won't end with "arrest."
sambaah05
I don't think any member of law enforcement would follow that order. POTUS is immune, but that doesn't make everyone else below him immune. Nixon was never charged for Watergate, but people below him were.
Vero2020
Two words: Pardon Power
sambaah05
1 word: Impeachment.
sambaah05
Also, soldiers could still face state level murder charges. POTUS can't pardon that.
tsiyeria
Well, he could replace a couple of justices on the SCOTUS for one. That seems pretty official.
autodidacticcortex
AOC has said she will begin impeachment proceedings. In 6.5 months when congress reconvenes …
sambaah05
That would go nowhere. Need two thirds in the senate. This is just like the people on the right that have promised to impeach Biden. The right impeached Bidens homeland security secretary a few months ago. It went nowhere. It's just to fire up the base. It's not to actually accomplish anything, because they know it won't do anything.
Ikusame
Not without the votes from senate and congress no.
orp0piru
>senate and congress
congress = senate + house
house has nothing to do with confirming justices.
president + senate does that
sambaah05
How? Congress has to confirm justices. There is just no mechanism for Biden to do it. Nobody would listen to him. The key to the ruling is it has to be something the president has the power to do. I get your point, if it's something Biden can do, like control the military. But he has no power over SCOTUS.
leechdemon
According to SCOTUS, the president can do anything in their existing line of power to uphold the constitution; arguably, anything can be "to protect the country", especially when SCOTUS also rules that you can't question the president's motives.
Ordering the military to kill a terrorist is already within the president's power (per SCOTUS) - that's a method right there. 🤷♂️ And as others mentioned, simply acting quickly would cause enough chaos to jam up the opposition.
worm61
He does not have the power to replace the justices immediately, but he absolutely has the power to remove them.
sambaah05
How? What law?
worm61
He issues an executive order declaring SCOTUS invalid and uses the military to enforce it. Problem solved.
autodidacticcortex
My guy, let me save you some trouble. They don’t want to hear it. They just want blood.
worm61
We don’t want blood, we want *action*. The nation is dying and someone needs to DO something to save it. We all have different ideas about what that something is, and some of the proposed solutions are violent, but it’s not because we’re bloodthirsty, it’s because we recognize that if something isn’t done, we’re fucked.
autodidacticcortex
Look I agree fully. Shits fucked and the dems aren’t even trying. So stop saying “I’d vote for a literal corpse over Trump.” … the DNC knows this. Maga knows this. The whole world knows this. They produced a literal corpse because that’s what you asked for. The election is almost certainly a loss because of it. Time to start organizing for 2028. All the centrist dems need enegage beyond a ballot once every four years, and to start voting harrrrd left.
tsiyeria
Have Clarence Thomas arrested. That oughta prove pretty effective.
sambaah05
That's assuming law enforcement would listen to such an order. Pretty good chance they wouldn't. Then Biden gets impeached and removed.
tsiyeria
So... are you gonna depend on the cops to not do whatever Trump tells them to do if he wins?
manamongstyou
If he used the military and had brass support he could simply assassinate them like Putin does. The current military leaders probably would not issue that order. Trump has talked about replacing them with sycophants who will do whatever he asks. People need to be way more worried than they currently are. Every election from here on out, we will have to decide on who is less likely to become a dictator before considering policy or anything else. That's if it isn't over already.
