12 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 8

Due to various nations colonising African nations over the last couple of hundred years a lot of African people are white.

I don't know why you were downvoted. It seriously isn't safe for a woman to do travel alone. That's the only reason I haven't done this.

Met a lot of female solo travelers all over, europe, africa, asia & latin america. Even the middle east. . Its how you perceive risk etc.

you can do pretty much anything you want as long as you have a network.

I think they're talking about assault/rape concerns. No amount of visas or passports will protect you from that.

Rape protection overseas isn't so different from traveling at home. Know where you are, go with friends, stay in after dark, etc.

Definitely some places are better than others; I was in Europe and felt relatively safe most of the time. Cape Town? nooooo sir

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well, depends on where you're going.

Let me lay down the situation for you all. I am white, tiny, female, and although I am 23 my face looks about 16. I don't travel alone.

I've hosted several Asian women who have travelled alone, but they haven't been in Africa either. Europe is safer.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I traveled alone for about 2 1/2 years; danger is real but it is managable and avoidable. You must be situationally and culturally aware.

Also, I'm female, best time of my life I have ever had.

12 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Same here. I think I actually prefer traveling on my own. I had a blast.

12 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I preferred traveling on my own, "Wonder where this will take me?". I meet wonderful people in places I know others would have balked to go.

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Utter BS! That's just your lame excuse! I know 100's of woman who travel Africa alone from everywhere!

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 10

It all depends on the section of Africa you go to, east? NO! most sections of the west? NO! south? some parts. North? mostly NOPE!

12 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 2

that's a sad attitude for you to have. there are *lots* of places a woman can safely travel alone. Africa maybe not so much though.

12 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 8

I've been to Germany. I'd go to a lot of places in Europe, but Africa? No, no, no. Not today.

12 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The point isn't that there are many safe places to go. The point is that it pisses me off that I can't just go wherever the hell I want!

12 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

They're specifically SAYING they can't travel to Africa because of this...

12 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

it says "It seriously isn't safe for a woman to do travel alone." I took that as travel in general. it looks like most commenters did, too.

12 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Yeah, but you're ignoring the context.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you find a dude (or several) that is/are intimidating enough to go with you, you'll probably be fine. Most of the time.

12 years ago | Likes 95 Dislikes 7

"Most of the time" might just not be good enough when the other times might include rape and/or being murdered...

12 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You'd be alright though. I mean, who would mess with Seven of Nine?

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for recognizing my name. I'm shocked at how many people here don't get it.

12 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
