Hello, Imgur. It's been a little while since we really talked. I'd like to change that today by reintroducing you to the team, going over our recent developments, and the current roadmap. Lastly, I'll be asking for your thoughts, feedback, and suggestions.

I'd appreciate it if you could get through this post in its entirety as I want to hear from you at the end.

Meet the team

For those of you who don't know me (@MartynMage) I've been using Imgur daily for 10 years. My cake day is even this week! Back in 2013, I ran the Secret Santa exchange and a few years later it was adopted into an official Imgur event which I still run to this day.

More recently, however, I became a product manager for Imgur. As a PM, I am responsible for both the present and future states of Imgur. This includes new features, small tweaks, bugs, and all things relating to prioritizing these things.

In addition to myself, we have three members of Imgur's community team I'd like you to be familiar with:

Let's kick this off with @SpockIsMyHomeboy. Spock has been on Imgur for 8 years and manages our moderation team which is made up of staff Imgurians that cover almost every time zone and range in age, gender, and background. He is responsible for upholding our community rules, combating spam and abuse, and keeping Imgur safe.

Next up is @ThaDoomicorn. Doom has been working at Imgur for 3 years and handles our announcements, push notifications, events, social pages, and more. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter? Any posts from Imgur are made by him. In addition to our official announcements and updates, he also writes our patch notes, tooltips, and error codes.

Last but definitely not least: @RaynWisp. Rayn has been using Imgur for 7 years and owns our support flow. Find a bug, want to share feedback, or are confused about a warning message? He's your guy! Reach out anytime via Imgur Support.

We run a rather tight ship at Imgur and have lots of shared responsibilities, however, we ultimately all want the same thing: to build the best Imgur we can.

The road so far and what's to come

You may be thinking that not much has changed in these last 6 months and you'd be right as the majority of things that we have been busy working on include mostly non-user-facing experiences such as overhauling our upload processes, releasing server-side rendering for SEO, and migrating legacy code and endpoints to our new system.

I'm sure you'd like to hear about what we're planning and how that'll impact you all. Before I get into the roadmap, however, I want to be upfront that these priorities are all subject to change.

Some of our larger goals for the next 12 months, in no particular order, include:
1. Upgrade our following system to allow you to be notified when a user posts, not just when they hit Most Viral. In addition, this will apply to all platforms, not just our apps!

2. Replace our mobile website with a responsive desktop site. This will bring more desktop features to mobile web, which today remains a very limited user experience.

3. Extend the length of a video you can upload while signed in. We understand that breaking a video into multiple chunks to be able to share it in its entirety is frustrating for everyone, and we'd like to put an end to that.

4. Expand Imgur's GIF library. The internet moves fast and Imgur’s reaction gif library needs to stay relevant so that you can find the perfect reaction GIF when words cannot describe how you feel about that bear that is definitely a human in disguise.

5. Upgrade link previews to better represent your profile on other platforms. If you've ever shared a link to your profile on another platform, text, or forum, you'll know that the generated preview isn't great. It's on us to fix that.

6. Update Imgur's auto-messaging to better clarify any violative content notices that users may receive in order to make the discussion or dispute process clearer.

We want to hear from you!

In a commitment to address bugs and frustrating user flows quickly, I would really appreciate your honest feedback in the comments on any issues you might be facing so I can ensure they are properly documented, prioritized, and addressed. If I'm unable to reproduce the issue myself, I may ask for you to share detailed information with us via the bug form in support where we are able to keep track of your concerns.

In addition to this, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the previously described new features and suggestions on other features we could possibly explore. To get involved, drop a comment on this post, or submit a suggestion directly here.

To close this post out, I ask one final thing of you all in the comments: Please keep it civil. We all want Imgur to be the best place that it can be and I want to keep working with you all to make that happen.

Good Luck Mert and can't wait to experience these new changes.

I'd like better tools for referring to and finding individual images in a post when using a desktop browser. I can't understand the comment about #37 without a lot of scrolling and counting.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

On all platforms you should be able to click or tap any image number like that and it'll display the exact image, is this not working for you?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you scroll down in a post, the title & next button move up to make more room for the post/comments. Clicking "Next" to go to the next post keeps that going. That's great. The problem, however, is that if the title is long, you can't read it all which means you have to scroll up to read it and then down again to see the rest of the post. I'm not sure what a good way to accomplish this is, but it would be nice to see the full title of a post even when you've scrolled down.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's a great point! We do truncate long titles when scrolled, however, there might be a better way to handle that. I'll note this for the design team to take a look into

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I freaking love IMGUR

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Honestly, me too. I have met some of the coolest people here as well as brief encounters with the awesome staff! I'm eager to see all of these changes take place. Every issue I've been working around has been addressed, and I am MOST excited about getting to see posts of the people I follow *before* they hit most viral!! Because unfortunately for now, if their post don't gain enough traction in user sub, I may never see it. Solid game changing move there.

Please remove the loud autoplaying audio ads.

Remove the new website design from existence and stay on the old one

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Dude, so loud!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Loud autoplaying ads are absolutely not something we want to see, if you ever experience these in the future, please contact us directly with a screenshot of the ad/ timestamp (and your timezone) of when it occurred so we can block it ASAP

2 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

I've sent in a few before. They're hard to screenshot though, as the source isn't always identifiable/related to the visible ads it seems.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I would like an easier, clearer way to mark something as mature content. My method do far has been to just post it and then if I don't get the "Hi, we marked this for you!" message in a few hours, delete the post... Should be like a "mature!" button when making the post.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

The option to mark your post mature exists within the ... section right next to where you add a post title before you submit it. If you select that you'll see a menu popup from the bottom that allows you to mark it as mature

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Okay that must be newish (it's been a while since I posted anything mature). I guess you're ahead of me then +1

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Solid Community Team here. I just want our followers to get notifications when we actually post as opposed to going viral and all is well. Or alternatively have dedicated channels for Featured Users.

2 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 1

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Regarding notifications, I agree completely -- it's one of our larger goals for the next 12 months as I shared in the post :)

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This and the new 500 char limit are the most exciting features in recent years. If you are going to implement notifications when someone you follow posts something, please make three options: No notifications, viral only, all posts.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maybe some way to filter out categories. As a Canadian user, it would be super awesome if say I could choose not to see U.S. political posts when I come here to see cool comics, cosplay and jokes.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

It sounds like Content Controls is exactly what you're looking for :) https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403623708301

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What would be great is if mods could heavily reinforce tagging political posts with the political tag, so many avoid the filters by not tagging, as a Canadian,I don't want to hear about other countries politics, especially around US elections, thank you

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

As a U.S. user it would be great to filter out U.S. political posts in general.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It would really nice if the search functionality would filter out results from users we have muted!

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Agreed! It's something we'll aim to work on further down the line. Also:

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

If I may, it would be nice if this were a toggle. I've had to mute some users over time, but I have no idea if they've ever posted anything I might want to find some day.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haaay, good news!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Not a big deal, but on mobile videos on a post you watch will play as the video on the next post you view. So like say I see a post of a dog barking, then go to the next post that also has a video, it'll compress or reshape the previous video and fit it into what should be a new video. If you select to full screen it, it'll fix itself, but that always happens. Thanks guys!

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I'm having a little trouble following this one I'm afraid, would you perhaps be able to capture a screen recording of this to help me demonstrate the issue to the team?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sorry for the late reply. It's kinda random for me, but happens every so often. I'll try to nab it for ya.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes! I've had this issue too. It's not a big deal, but it does happen regularly. And it will happen in comments, too. I see a vid post, and sometimes the first comment with a vid will be the last vid from the post. Or the first vid comment on the next post will be the vid from the last post. Full screening will fix it.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What happened to Sarah?

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Her LinkedIn lists VP of Community of Imgur, ending April 2023... Her last comment was on April 14th. I don't remember a word being said about it at the time. Something smells.

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 3

Stuff happens. Maybe she moved on, or was moved on. Either way, users frankly don’t get to have visibility into her personal business, nor the company’s internal HR decisions like that, and typically for good reason.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Nah. If you have a person who is the de-facto "face" of the company you don't just disappear them. We may not be owed a full *explanation* but we're certainly owed a *notification*

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I just wanna know what happened to the potato

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

THIS!!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A bug I've noticed in the app while scrolling most viral, newest: I'll get the first 20 new posts or so, then it will be posts from 2 weeks that I've up voted already.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Whoa, that's incredibly strange! I'm not aware of any other reports of this, would you mind trying the old 'off/on again' trick by reinstalling and see if this still occurs?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll give it a go 😅

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Using the mobile app, I frequently (several times a day) get a message "no more posts in stream", or it will jump from 3 current posts to posts that are a week old. And I know there are more posts, because I viewed them earlier in the day!

2 years ago | Likes 155 Dislikes 1

Sometimes I'll get ten posts in, sometimes fifty, but it will freeze, go back to the main page and it's posts from days and days ago that I've already seen. I've started browsing random (2016 isn't fun to relive btw) since this bug has been around for a long time and it's incredibly aggravating. Hope this is high on the priorities! 😁

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And it's one thing to browse random, but when you forget and comment on a 5 year old post...

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

OMG I get this too and I HATE IT.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Same issue too. I’ll try to refresh my feed and it’s post from five days ago. Glad it’s being worked on

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I have this issue, too.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's no fun at all. This is an issue we're currently investigating and do hope to resolve in a coming update. In the meantime, however, we have seen that reinstalling the app outright often resolves this issue. (I know, not a great solution, but we're working on it)

2 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 1

Thats what worked for me

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have done that--but I have to keep doing it, so I'm glad you're working on it.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

I would love the search function to actually work. It does not seem to address context or tags well, and it would be great if it actually did image/gif searching.

2 years ago | Likes 37 Dislikes 0

I agree with you there, the current functionality of search is lacking and we do intend to address these gaps in time. Having it return images/GIFs is a challenge, but one we're not opposed to

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Sweet! I'll look for it in the 2028 release!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And I don't mean this to be snide, my apologies if it came off that way. I mean it to be realistic. It just knows it takes time to implement this kind of thing.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha, no worries at all. I would like to see it a bit earlier than that though, so maybe we'll surprise you!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If budget allows, hiring someone with search experience would be nice.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Can you also make it that when we get a notification of a response, that we can see to what comment they are actually responding without having to search for it? That’s new and frustrating on the app.

2 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 0

This is definitely not an intended experience within our latest app release, as such we're currently working to release a new app update right now which resolves this. Once it's out, we'll even work to notify you to be sure you update and get it :)

2 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

Oh good. That was quite surprising, when i finally upgrade my device and saw the new app for the first time, recently

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah this one is particularly frustrating. I get a response and have no way of knowing which of my comments are being responded to. I’m on iPhone mobile so don’t know if that is significant.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you. It’s been extremely annoying since the last update. Hope it’s fixed soon.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s great news. Thanks for that.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Click “all comments” to see the original comment you replied to.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Yeah, and have it still keep highlighted or otherwise flagged the original comment so you can find it

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My bad, it’s best comments, not all comments

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

That option doesn't appear for me.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Idk. It’s above the comment on the mobile app.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope. Sometimes I get a choice of "view all comments", but more often than not the option isn't there.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Love y'all! I guess this is a perfect time for my yearly "Please give us 1080p mp4s" request :D

2 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 2

I make no guarantees here, but I am happy to look into this following the currently planned updates for video length!

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

The day I no longer have to render mp4s with a limit of 960 pixel width will be glorious. Neither 150-200mb gifs nor 960*504 mp4s are really a good choice atm. Here's hoping!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh hey! Glad to see you! It's been a while since I was last here but I have fond memories of you from the old days. Glad to see you are doing well! Anything cool I can redeem these nearly half a million fake internet points for?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Hello! Doing well indeed. Nothing you can redeem them for I'm afraid, however, once you hit 500k shoot me a message and I'd be more than happy to have someone mail you an Imgur sticker pack if you'd like!

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Challenge accepted!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know, I kinda doubt I will break that 500k. But hey, I write full-time now, so, that's cool!

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1) Mandatory tagging! There's a ton of triggering content I want to avoid but no one tags anything. 2) When I downvote something & it asks if I want to block tags, it says check my connection. Frustrating when I'm obviously online.

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 1

You know, at first I thought I would find this annoying but actually yeah, it would be good. I am not in the USA and don't really want to be bombarded with political stuff- but don't really get a choice. Even when you block the tags it doesn't help for this reason. Mandatory tags wouldn't necessarily solve this issue, but it would go a long way in helping.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The amount of times I've seen spiders, even though I've blocked the tag for them..... Is more than the number of legs two spiders have. And that's a lot of legs. Terrifying legs I don't want to see.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Agreed! For this exact thing. I would welcome ai overlords just to remove those creatures from view :(

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

How do you enforce that though? What's the stop someone from just tagging nonsense tags?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Their account being deleted and their IP banned.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Seems pretty extreme for not putting the right tags, especially in the context of a simple phobia like spiders.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

You asked for ways to enforce mandatory tagging that isn't nonsense.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That level of extreme moderation IS nonsense.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’d love if alllllll of the videos/gifs didn’t auto play at the same time on mobile (don’t really use desktop anymore soooo can’t really comment on that)… I liked the old way of the one that’s centered in your screen will auto play, then as you scroll down that one would pause and the next one would start. It’s A) very distracting to my adhd brain to have moving pictures above and below of the moving picture I’m trying to watch, B) seems to make video heavy posts load more slowly, C)….

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And C) makes it harder to watch from start to finish smoothly when it’s a longer video broken up into smaller bits, currently I find I have to drag the next one back to beginning when I move to it - although I recognize this third part may be moot if you do increase the video length that can be posted! I think point A is my biggest issue with it!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Even as a non ADHD person this one kills me! I have to have the video millimetre perfect on my phone to be able to have the correct audio playing for the video i am watching. Half the time i just skip that post as its too painful.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I agree completely. We're wrapping up some work right now to ensure that only the content on the screen plays, similar to how we do it on desktop. I'm hoping to see it released in the coming weeks

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Being able to have the option of a display tab or something like it with the users we follow (excluding tags) would be nice, but it could be remedied if we get post notifications instead of Most Viral. Also, it would be interesting to have the option to select if we want to be notified when a post goes Most Viral or not, since if you get post notifications, the MV one would be redundant. Fixing the desktop thing where you cannot see a linked image in the comment (#12 searches for the tag)

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

would be nice as well, but I imagine the desktop overhaul might cover that.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks for sharing! The goal with the notifications changes I described above is to have two tiers -- be notified on every post, or on most viral. I would like to explore some further changes to the "Following" tab on apps to meet what you've described, as well as bring it to desktop someday also. That desktop comment bug is a strange one we do see reports of periodically, I'll ask the team to try and narrow it down so we can address it

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Want me to make a screen capture of it?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No that's okay, we're just wanting to narrow down what causes it to start with some specific steps to reproduce it directly -- if you happen to know what steps always lead to seeing the issue, however, I'd love to hear it!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Using Vivaldi, when you hover over the linked image number, it goes to search of that number as a tag. Happens every time, really. Very rarely it does show the image, but I never was able to pinpoint why.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would say there is a problem posting gifs and videos as comments. Where you do so and all you get is "Tap to retry"

2 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

I have seen a few posts about this issue lately! Do you perhaps have an example comment you're personally seeing this on that I could use to try and narrow this one down?

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

this should be a short video of Bender putting something in his chest and saying "that'll be 10,000 dollars"

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Update: I believe this issue is now resolved, please let me know if you continue to see this with other GIFs in our library that you aim to share!

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Wow I can see it. Thank you.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

@MartynMage I sure would like to be able to see peoples replies to my comments with the comment itself when using the iPhone app. I guess this is a well known problem, but it’s gotten to the point where I just don’t even check my replies anymore because I know I won’t be able to see them in context.

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

This

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s a huge pain in the ass and discourages me from replying.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is definitely not an intended experience within our latest app release, as such we're currently working to release a new app update right now which resolves this. Once it's out, we'll even work to notify you to be sure you update and get it :)

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I would appreciate it, thank you. Tho, I probably won’t be able to see it if the notification is a reply to this comment. Ha

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I’m sure you alreadyyou know that Imgur has one of the largest opportunities right now to scoop up a chunk of Reddit’s user base, particularly its iOS user base. With the Apollo app gone, everyone is looking for a place to go and Imgur could be that app. Maybe if you or anyone else could reach out to Apollo’s dev, Christian Selig and try to recreate some of that magic? It was such a good app.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can we have custom reactions? I don't want to have to scroll through my personal pictures, a list that gets longer every time my kid does something, to find the reaction picture/gif I want. Maybe use a special favorites folder or something?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You are able to comment using a favorite already, however, I know that the flow there is a little confusing. To break things down a little, if you're looking to save specific reactions, whenever you find a great GIF you want to use, tap to full-screen it, favorite it, and then place it into a folder of your choosing. When you favorite a GIF directly like this (rather than a whole post), and use it in a comment, it'll appear just like a reaction GIF does

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But if you have a ton of favorites (I have something like 250), is there a way to organize them? For example I have favorited a bunch of cute animal videos, but sprinkled into those are some reaction gifs.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When you're favoriting, press and hold the heart button and it'll give you an option for a folder. Then when you react, touch the heart and go up to "all favorites" and change it to the folder you want.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Awesome, thank you!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

me learning the thing I want is already here

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As I scroll through the comments, my upvotes and/or downvotes randomly disappear. I haven’t seen anyone else mention it. Thanks for all you and the team do!

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I’ve had this happen to me as well.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That sounds very odd! If you could perhaps grab a screen recording and submit it to us over in support, we'd love to look into this!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@RedWingedBlackbirds -- there's a limit to the number of upvotes/downvotes you can do in a window of time. At least on the desktop/browser version, it will start to lie to you and mark that you've voted but the vote count on the comment doesn't change (if you refresh or view from another browser).

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Thanks! I'm on mobile, but I never knew about the limit.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They make it hard to see. I expect the mobile version will show the same as the desktop since the API powers both. It says you upvoted but it doesn't count your vote. It's designed to silently fail while giving the appearance of doing what you asked.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks - I'll try

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you comment on one image in a dump, the # link doesn’t work properly on desktop. It takes you to a page of images related to that number instead of the one you actually commented on.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Second this. It’s really annoy you can’t properly comment on specific images if you don’t use the app.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Another user also mentioned this and I'm hoping to reproduce and resolve this in the future!

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ok, here's a BIG one for me. Many years ago, by community request, we FINALLY got favorite folders. However, there is no good way to go back and sort my vast library favorites, because there's no easy way to see what has and hasn't been put into a folder. I'm not suggesting that you remove the current methods, which allow you (among other things) to put an image into more than one folder. However, there are 2 things that would make sorting favorites a million times easier: (TBC)

2 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

1) An "untagged" folder into which all favorited images go until they appear in at least one folder. This easily shows us what has yet to be sorted. Ideally, this view would have a sidebar showing all our other favorites folders, for easy sorting with: 2) A multi-select drag and drop feature on desktop. These 2 things would make it viable to actually go back and try to organize my hoard of favorites, which I would love to do.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Oh drag and drop sorting would be SO helpful

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

On desktop, we do actually have a multi-select drag and drop option, though I can understand if it's missed. If you hover any thumbnail, in the top left you'll see a little checkbox -- check that on a bunch of posts at once and you can drag/drop all of them into a folder in one go!

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Also, honorable mention: Nesting folders. This is MUCH lower priority than the other 2 mentioned, but would be cool to see someday.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

@martynmage also seconding this, not a priority but absolutely would be awesome!

Oh shoot you're totally right! We have an "unorganized" filter on desktop, but it looks like we didn't introduce that on apps. I'll look into the effort required to add that! As for being able to add something to multiple folders, I know that's possible on desktop, but I'm not sure exactly how we might do it on apps. I'll see what the team thinks though!

2 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

I can add an image to multiple folders on my current iOS 16.4 app

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Performance on the mobile app slows the longer it's used. Scrolling through the feed becomes less responsive, up to the point it freezes. Exiting the app and reopening it appears to correct the issue for a short time.

2 years ago | Likes 399 Dislikes 0

That happens to me too! Sometimes I have to force stop the app

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Similar, but it's like the frame rate drops and even just scrolling gets jaggy. Video /gif playback is like 10fps. Seems to be certain content triggers it and it doesn't go away till restart. Sometimes it crashes on its own. Android 13, Samsung s20+

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I as well experience this with videos glitching until they are unwatchable. Restarting my phone seems to be the only way to cure it for me.

2 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Go into your settings and force stop the app. Much faster than restarting your whole phone. You may also empty the cache periodically as well.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I have tried this, it doesn't work. Restarting the app doesn't matter.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Android or iPhone?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had this same issues until I sent in a formal complaint 6-10 months ago-ish. Now it works fine.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm chiming in on this as well. As soon as I click on a video to watch, the app crawls at a snails pace. Scrolling is brutal and videos will slow down. Have to restart the app to keep going. So unless I really want to watch the video I know I'll have to restart the app to continue.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This. I have to close the app and reopen it. It gets so bad the text lags when I type a comment.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mobile app heats up my phone likecrazy!!! cant use it for more then 10 minutes

2 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

I've seen this at times too. I wonder if there are some poorly-optimized ads that have a heavier rendering load?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Seconded. Im an android user (if it matters) and if im browsing too long OR i have too many apps open, ill get weird swipe lag between posts. Also, favoriting and downloading either dont work or will delay. Closing the Imgur app completely usually resolves the issue

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seconded, and as the performance degrades, the phone will heat up a bit. Can't say for sure, but seems to happen more with posts containing videos or very large pictures.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

+1 on this. I'm just browsing and scrolling on the app normally, and that slowdown comes in and feels like a memory leak.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

My performance can drop after one or two vids. It's random.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I septuple this report. The app works fine(ish) when i first open it, but then it's performance degrades more and more until it becomes frozen. Sometimes it reaches unusable in 1 minute, sometimes it happens in 15 minutes, but usually it takes somewhere in between. Quitting the app and relaunching it makes it work ok again. I think it's possible it might coincide with new ads loading, but I'm not sure about that.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Seconding this issue. Also, it has something to do with videos as posts that contain multiple videos make the slow-down happen much sooner than if all the feed posts are static images

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I notice I start to have problems when I scroll through dump posts with lots of gifs.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Agreed!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's no good at all. Are you just browsing normally or do you recall any specific actions you take that you notice make a difference? For example, favoriting/posting/commenting etc. Additionally, for how long do you typically browse before you notice this?

2 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Adding that it seems better these days, but on the iOS app for a long time it was painful. Somehow the ads always worked no problem though. Maybe they were simply cached in a different location?

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My android phone does this all the time! It's as if I watched too much content for the app to shed.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It gets very laggy every time I use it. I have to close it and reopen it.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I get this too, I just thought it was my phone

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sometimes I can only look at two posts in usersub before the app completely crashes. This is after the several seconds of waiting for anything to load

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's been like this for years. It's usually a good reminder to myself to put the damned phone down for a while, haha. Annoying, but useful.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

MertynMage, same here. Will be just reading and watching vids, maybe a comment or so. On Android, so scrolling, and then it will start pushing sideways to next article on the scroll just by a slight sideways push. That's when you know it's gonna go to shit. Gotta get off for bout half hr or so. Don't have you on my pad or I'd never get anything done.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've noticed it just browsing for about half an hour.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can confirm the same. I just scroll down the main page to see what to click on and after a short while, it's just slow. Restarting the app fixed it temporarily. (Android app)

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Interesting... I don't recall seeing the dual [ 🛡️ ADMIN | OP ] byline badge before.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For sure! It's not often I use the admin tag on my own posts, but for this one, I felt it's a good idea

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I noticed the slowing for normal small periods of browsing if I switch off the app for even ten minutes and then reopen it (Android), and it fails to load even pics, but your ads sure do load with no issue. If I'm browsing longer than thirty minutes on Wi-Fi I have to close completely and reopen, on data it's about 45 minutes before the slowing and then eventually freezing. And this is all just browsing, no posting, no messaging, just lurking in the shadows

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yes, ads load and play smoothly, while content struggles.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Adding to this, little late - I find this happens after scrolling for some time, OR if I've downloaded something from a post (image or video, doesn't matter). Once I download media the next posts load, but without images or videos, just the text. Have to force close (Android) and start over

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm typing browsing Usersub after scrolling through Most Viral on and off throughout the day. Favoriting and commenting sometimes but not every time it's occurred. It seems to be sporadic, as sometimes it won't be an issue for several days of use. Other times after ~30 minutes it begins to noticeably slow. It's a perfectly fair argument that scrolling for extended periods could be the issue, and if it was a routine occurrence I doubt I'd have brought it up.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Got it! I'll swap to my Android when I browse to see if I can track this down a little

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It definitely is a RAM issue. The app doesn't clear unused RAM which can go as far as other apps crashing in the background. Has been an issue since 5.0. Miss the old 4.21 version of the app. That one was flawless. Highest usage I've seen was 765MB, way too high.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

For me it’s browsing normally with an updoot every few posts. Hope that helps.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I see the same thing, for me specifically it's videos that get loaded take longer and longer. It's like it never clears the cache and eventually the memory allotment is just all used up.

2 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

I noticed this too on my app. I have an optimizer widget up on my home screen that I would use when the app got slow and it immediately made a difference after clearing a bunch of memory.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Android version of the app, for what it's worth.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

If it helps I have this also, I'm on the android app. For me it doesn't always seem to be a length of time issue, sometimes it's a few posts after opening the app. Closing and reopening the app DOES NOT fix it (most of the time). I used to think it was my internet but have checked this and can rule it out (plus other apps such as insta still work fine). I mostly lurk so it's pretty much just scrolling for me.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Try force quitting imgur from Android's settings app (as opposed to just swiping the app away in your phone's app switcher).

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Malaphor, yes for sometimes a few posts and I've also got to turn it off for a while ( half hr?).

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I recently uninstalled and reinstalled as a last resort and it helped some issues I was having. Still having the issue that this comment mentioned but it fixed the one you're describing.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh and please can there be a “recently viewed” or “history” section?? So many times I’m on a post, and want to show my partner, and when I go to do so it refreshes and the post disappears, and I have almost never been able to locate it again using the search, even if I DO remember the title word for word!

2 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 0

This!!!

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Omg I thought you were my partner because he'd write the exact same comment

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

in a desktop browser you can use ctrl+h to pop up the browsing history sidebar, which might help if it's a post you've veiwed & not just in the feed. probably a bunch of taps to see the same even using the desktop site on mobile though

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yessss!!!! I literally download everything I want to share if I can't do it then and there. My phone is crying 😭

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Same! Sometimes I’ll favorite it instead of downloading, but I don’t always have a chance before the app refreshes.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'd love to learn a little more about your experience here. (As well as BoneEatingSnotFlower's) Do you mean that without tapping anything your feed refreshes automatically, and when that happens more new content is loaded in so you lose your place? Or perhaps something different?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes, exactly that. The app refreshes/reloads itself and sends me back to an updated feed, from whatever post I was viewing.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, when the feed reloads it will only show unseen posts, so not only do I lose my place but whatever I had been viewing is removed from the feed since it’s now a “seen” post. So even if I would scroll through the feed looking for it the post I had been viewing would no longer be there.

Personally, there have often been times when I’ll be scrolling through most viral, and I swipe to the next one too quick/by accident/etc and when I go back, it’s just not there anymore. Often there’s an ad instead. I go in the preview set up and can’t find it either.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I concur with @Boneeatingsnotflower it’s when your screen goes black and locks your phone so you unlock it then Imgure refreshes and I can never find the post again. Or on IPhones if you tap the very top of your phone it scrolls you all the way back to the top of the page so in response Imgure refreshes the page.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

My experience is when I have a post open, not just on the feed. It’s not an issue that happens if I can show him right away as I’m scrolling through posts, but if there’s a time delay. I think it’s mostly when my phone screen times out, so I unlock it when I get to him, and imgur will “refresh” - it takes me back to the feed and loading all new content, and if it’s active enough it can be gone! This happens and makes sense if it’s been ages since you had it open, but the timing seems…

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Unpredictable… sometimes it can be hours later and when I open my phone it doesn’t refresh, and sometimes it can be minutes later and it refreshes.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I *think* sometimes too if you have the image/gif ‘fullscreened’, even if it hadn’t refreshed yet, if you accidentally touch the screen (perhaps trying to restart the gif or turn the sound on), it will close the full screen, go back to the post, then that seems to trigger the same refresh where it goes back to the feed. Hopefully some others can corroborate these scenarios for you!

I assume it's the one of the left with the floating arm with a disfigured hand. The eyes and cheekbones kinda match him. They both have his nose however. The beard kinda looks fake, and the moustache looks like it was shove up his "Aquiline" (hooked nose) nostrils of his.
