Dream Home (China)

Chinese slasher about a woman who goes on a murder spree through an apartment complex in Hong Kong. Has some of the best kill scenes in Asian cinema. This one's definitely not for the squeamish however, with some extremely graphic scenes and one including a pregnant woman.

Macabre (Indonesia)

Macabre is basically the Indonesian mash-up of Frontiers and Inside. It's not entirely original, but it's very well made and it's always nice seeing something other than ghost movies come out of SE Asia.

Livide (France)

From the directors of Inside (do yourself a favor and go watch that in case you haven't), Livide is a French supernatural horror that follows a young in-house caregiver and her two friends as they try to rob an elderly patient whom supposedly has treasures hidden away in her mansion. It's not nearly as brutally gory as Inside, but Livide is creepy and entertaining enough to satisfy any horror fan.

Countdown (Thailand)

Three Thai college students are looking to get high on New Year's Eve. When the dealer, Jesus, shows up at the door and wants to party with them, things get out of hand when he refuses to leave and seems to know things about their past. David Asavanond deserves all the credit as he's amazing as Jesus, flipping from trustworthy to insane at any moment.

Naroi (Japan)

In this Japanese found footage film, a documentary filmmaker explores paranormal incidents connected by the legend of the ancient demon kagutaba. I'm not the biggest fan of J-horror, and Noroi does get a little slow throughout its middle parts, but it stays incredibly creepy the entire time and is the most successful Japanese found footage film.

The Road (Philippines)

Unrelated to the American apocalyptic tale, this Filipino film follows A 12 year old cold case that is reopened when three teens go missing on an abandoned road. The story is broken up and told over the course of 3 decades. Among the best, if not the best, horror movie to come out of the Philippines.

Right at Your Door (U.S.A)

Chemical bombs go off in Los Angeles and Brad quarantines himself inside his house while worrying about his wife working downtown. She later arrives, covered in ash, and Brad shuts her out, not wanting to risk his own life. Most of the story is these two dealing with the aftermath of the bombs and Brad's decision, but it holds up over the 90 minute runtime.

Dream Home is so awesome!

Not enough Japanese movies. The Japanese really know how to do horror.

I would add Thirst and The host (South Korea), The Devil's backbone (Spain)

Why do people watch movies like this? Seriously wondering. The last one sounds interesting but why watch gore films

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can also ask why are there so many ppl that believe there will really be a zombie apocalypse.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's in my part two, of this post!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sauna is awesome. As a Finn I generally despise Finnish movies, but this... ****/*****

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I thought you were starring out curse words for a second. Like ****/***** meant Fuck/Bitch or something. Not my brightest moment.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Manu is the man in that first movie. Every problem gets a sledgehammer

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

But only the first one, the second one is watchable too but that's it

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

the first one is the best of the series. the last one, 3 or 4?, really sucked.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope. That film fucked with me too much. Top nope.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

the old woman at the beginning yo...

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

[Rec] is great, but it's really well-known outside of Spain. OP seems be going for films that haven't gotten much international love.

10 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 1

Winner, winner!

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

I just watched Dream Home. Excellent start to the list so far. Kudos to you, OP.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Last Days (Spain) was also a good one, in my opinion. And it's on Netflix!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Not quite horror, I know.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It was so cool tho I loved it for what it was, and love how they can do horror and syfy unlike here in Mexico where it's justbbullshit 24/7

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Inside is creepy!

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I've been searching for a thai horror movie that some dude starts killing a couple on a hospital and the weirdest shit was the clock 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2had 13 hours instead of 12, if someone know the name please let me know, thanks.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll research it and watch it. If it's any good I'll add it in part 3!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks!

Korea makes some awesome f-ed up horror films. Surprised they're not represented on this list.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Ugh, I LOVE Korean Horror.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What are your Korean horror recommendations?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tale of Two Sisters, I Saw the Devil, Bloody Reunion. The Ring was ok but I liked the US remake more, unlike Oldboy (also Korean).

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not Korean btw. I watched one Korean film and Netflix just assumed I am and started recommending more and more.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Though if you want a non-horror, feel-goody type of film, Castaway on the Moon was pretty damn good.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I watched Tale of two sisters and it's on my new post of movies

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hehe. Chine

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

A Siberian film, a loving story about the protection of family, amazing to watch with the whole family.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Its basically like Taken, huh?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Honestly don't know what all the hooplah is about that movie.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

do you mean A Serbian Film?

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Listen hear you twinkle twinkle little shit...

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Babadook bitches

10 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 9

Sorry dude, I feel for you.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I noped out of the film during the scene when it was night time and something went "dook dook dook".

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Finish it! The movie is awesome. And then google the meaning of the babadook

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I hated it. The mom and the son were both so fucking annoying. And the end didn't make sense.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Google what the babadook represented to the mother. Made the movie better for me

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

is it any good?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's awesome

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

No

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Mixed reviews apparently

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

my opinion it started off really good but then lost steam as it went on. Not the greatest movie but not bad.Didnt live up to the hype for me

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I have never wanted a main character to die as badly as when I watched that movie

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The babadook wasn't in my nightmares... that kid was. Omg.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

let say that dream home is a hong kong movie

10 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 3

Does the rest of China not want to affiliate with the movie? Or is it too specifically a Hong Kong style?

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 3

To make it simple: Hong Kong is not China, a lot like Taiwan (though not exactly the same). They are SAR (Special Administrative Regions)

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

And Hong Kong movies are actually a thing. Jackie Chan movies arent chinese, they're Hong Kong movies

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

Hong Kong has the third largest film industry in the world behind Hollywood and Bollywood.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hong Kong doesn't want to affiliate with the rest of Chine

10 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 1

Hehe. Chine

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

That's what the French call China

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If China and Chile merged as one

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

HK citizen here. To clarify with minimal bias: Hong Kong is Chinese sovereign territory. However, our governments are largely separate. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Day-to-day affairs are all managed by the local administration, while the Chinese government can exert special authority in some cases- 2/2

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

in accordance with the Basic Law, which is like a constitution. In terms of film/movie production, Hong Kong has its own unique style. 3/2

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Like when Hong Kong tried passing a law banning Beijing having a veto on its laws... Shame Hong Kong will not remain separate forever.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be fair, such a law would've violated the Basic Law; Beijing is legally permitted authority over some very specific issues. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"The Orphanage" would do well on that list too.

10 years ago | Likes 69 Dislikes 2

It's on my part two of this post!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was such a tragic and terrifying movie! I cried for an hour at the end.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

one of the best "horror" films I've ever seen.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So it's not horror?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's a very scary movie. It just defies genre convention to the point that I hesitate to label it as such.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Watch Martyrs, s'good.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yes! It's actually on my part two of this post

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You watch the American remake yet?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's an American Remake? *furiously googles*

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, went online a couple days ago. Not nearly as brutal as the French one, and a different ending.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just watched the trailer ~ French version looks better

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh absolutely, no contest really.
