Alright...

This may sound weird for those of you that live outside of germany, but more often than not people here will give you either the silent treatment, or will downright insult you if you mention stuff like "Im proud to be a german / live in germany"

The Worldcup...

is pretty much the only Time we are "allowed" to wave our own flag. Im not kidding. During the World Cup everyone is cool with showing off the flag, but as soon as its over? If you do something...

like this...

then depending in which area of germany you live in, people will look at you

Like this.

I think thats simply not fair. Yes, Germany did terrible things during World War 2. And yes, its by no means "perfect" to live here, the country got a fair amount of problems. However...

I think Germany is a beautiful Country

With an amazing landscape

Spätzle

And there are so many different kinds breads

Did you know that it would take over 2 Years to try every single bread out there, if you eat 1 Bread each day?

And we have a "Fest" for everything.

Like a Strawberry festivity for example.

Its just awesome.

...although the weather could be better sometimes.

With that being said, i dont want to make this post even longer than it already is. I just wanted to get this off my chest.

Ich finde es toll hier zu leben, und ich wünsch euch noch einen schönen Tag Imgur!

And if you happen to come across a few grammar mistakes, please forgive me.

As a french I agree with all of this (could be nuanced on food ;-) Spent 2 y in Berlin, and some times around Munich. Love Germany too

On another side note, have you guys ever tried Feuerzangenbowle? Its a very sweet drink. Oh, and you set it on fire.

If I werent a Finn then I'd like to be a German. Germany is what makes studying history interesting. I thank you for that.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Oh dear, the german baked goods..so sweet. xD

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I am glad and happy to be german, to live here in peace and freedom... I am proud of myself and all I achieved but not proud of a country.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Upvote for you, why anyone would be 'proud' to be a certain nationality is somewhat nonsencical.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

No one said you aren't allowed, if you're too self-cobscious , that's on you!

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Enjoying what your country has to offer is fine, enjoying your country's culture and history is fine. Blind nationalism isn't.

@Mersadeon makes an excellent point. Look at how mindless the USA has got in its patriotism.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I know what castle that is because I play Civilization.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Germany you're the pride of Europe and has been the glue to hold us together since the wall fell. Even if you won't admit it.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Honestly I don't consider Germany the evil group behind the WW's, I only consider the Nazi party as the issue.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I know the feel, it's the same in France. People would spit in your face, if you dared to say you're proud of your country...

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Really? In France? As a German, I've been a lot in France and I love that country, but I always had the feeling that they're proud.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's getting like that everywhere. The racists anti-patriotism want to do the same to every western country.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Not even going to mention their beer, huh?

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I guess you forgot 1940 to 1945

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

its funny that whenever i am in the netherlands i got the feeling they understand my german but i dont understand their dutch

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

We do learn basic German in school (something with trading history) , so most of us acualy can :)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haha. Inderdaad . I agree with my fellow dutch guy

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It's like the US and Canada relationship, no one gets to bash Germany but us!

No wonder you like Germans so much, you have a sense of humour only a German can have.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Awww it's like Canada and America

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Dutch like us? Weird, I always thought there was a massive rivalry

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

It's like a small brother (we) and a big brother (you) who are competing against each other.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is true, we still can't beat you at football and it's annoying the crap out of us

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I imagine the relationship is similar to Australia and New Zealand, the United States and Canada, and England and Scotland.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

N then scotland tried to take off. You wouldn't see Canada trying that anytime soo-wait...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only when there's football. Apart from that, we love you. My favourite teacher was German and she was awesome.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Dutchman, no rivalry from me. Germany is my favourite European country outside my own, would move there if I had to leave NL.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

except when it's football-time - then we're the biggest rivals :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well it's not like it used to be. In the 80's Dutch and German fans would actually fight, now they can watch the game in the same room.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah that's right - still classic rivalry though ;)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is the old days: http://youtu.be/nxAvy32wXY0 Even the players hated each other :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I knew what it would be :D - but it would be kinda hypocrite today, judging by how many Dutch players play together with Germans in a team

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What are you talking about? No, we don't. ;)

As a white person in America, I understand your inherited shame.

11 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 12

I don't. I regret slavery, but I couldn't be prouder to have a family of 400 years of American heritage.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We are no where near the level of Germany for shame.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

it doesnt matter if it's not the same level, we do understand what it's like.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Even though you shouldn't, because not every white American came from colonialists...

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Though I actually kind of respect how Germany has actually tried really hard to keep something like that from happening again.

11 years ago | Likes 139 Dislikes 1

Welllllll... That's not entirely true. Heard about NSU? Turns out, the Verfassungsschutz that's supposed to monitor Nazis is funding them.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

2/2 as an American, I'm pretty sure if that happened to us we would ignore it, take it out of textbooks, and continue to wave our flag.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup. I think we just don't need this. I can be proud about Germany without waving that flag.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

It speaks a lot about German character for them to be so concerned about showing patriotism after what happened so long ago. 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Having grew up in Germany all throughout the 90's, i never saw this. People had the flag out quite often and no one cared...

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 2

20 years can change a lot of things

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's because this horrible thing is relatively recent. Ever since the advent of "political correct" extremism decided patriotism is evil.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I think it really depends where you live in. I grew up in Rheinlandpfalz, and i certainly noticed it a lot there.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

I have lived in Rheinland-Pfalz for the last three years and also see the flag displayed quite often. Ramstein area, to be exact

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I live in that area now and there are German flags up in every village I drive through.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I grew up in Speicher. You can't get much more west than that. =P

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

See how the Italians and Japanese don't give a fuck for stuff happened over 70 years ago? Copy that.

11 years ago | Likes 36 Dislikes 9

Japan has earned the wrath of one-fifth of humankind, as well as all its immediate neighbors. That's not such a good idea.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

So is it a good thing to not give a fuck...?

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Maybe not exactly like that, what with the whole "denying any atrocities were committed at all" thing...

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

Seriously, don't copy Italy and Japan over almost anything. Maybe food.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

We should copy Japan's enthusiasm for animation and cute things.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Definitely not like the Japanese though.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Unfortunately, there are many in Japan that see nothing wrong with what they did.

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Lots of the civilians of nations don't mind about the wars. Biggest example is the American war crimes in Iraq. Look them up.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I remember a quote from a book that goes like "people in Japan are ashamed about WWII, they're ashamed they lost."

11 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

That is the Japanese culture, even if it is wrong they must do it and do it well (win)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a fellow German proud of her country: just don't let them stop you. Wave that flag in their small-minded little faces and be proud.

11 years ago | Likes 149 Dislikes 12

As a Canadian, wave your flag Germany, and keep gracing us with your beer and pretzels! We love you!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Germany's pretty neat, but most Germans remember what happened the last time nationalism got big there, and get kind of nervous.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

not only nervous, there is a clear continuity in Germany, and a lot of the so called patriots don't get how they repeat history.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

America did some shit in its past but we're still patriotic as hell. Be proud of your country!!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Yes, but you didn't ruin your whole country for the next decades after you got too nationalistic and committed genocides and lost two WWs.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

German here...I should get me a flag...

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

We all should, considering Oct 3rd is coming up. And then post pics on here!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm down! Start a post, I'll jump on XD

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Germans do get a lot of crap for WW2 but overall I have found them to be warm and likable people. I plan on living here permanently.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Na dann, herzlich willkommen =)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

as another german i don´t get why there is a need to wave the german flag

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you think any other nation feels like they have to have a "need" to wave their flag? Why not just do it??

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

because you seperate yourself from others, i don´t think you should define yourself over your nationality

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's only separating yourself from others if you do it in a "I'm better than you" kind of way, which imo having a flag isn't at all

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but your still seperate yourself in this case from all the non-germans, which can easily lead to arrogance aswell

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just moved to Germany from the states...I'm waiting for the day I meet a German and they love imgur as much as I do...we will be BFFs:)

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Herzlich willkommen and I hope you will have an amazing time over here!

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

why are we anti-nationalists small-minded again? Sure, do w/e you like, but saying that is kind of rushed?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

If you accuse me of being a nazi or overly nationalistic because I want to wave my flag, then you are small-minded.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

It's just the case study. If I would have met nice flag waving german, cool. But all I met were sexist idiots who pissed on jewish graves.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well I hope you called the cops on their asses since that is a felony.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Now I get you. That's true, of course! I thought you meant anti-nationalism was small-minded. Sorry ~

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why not? Strawberries!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's an industrial town and oftentimes smells like pollution.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I heard when I was up there last year, I want to check that one out too, cherries are om-noms as well.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And I can't go to one because I'm allergic

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We can go to a different OtherFruit-Fest, if you'd like.

Grandmas usually know what they're talking about, I trust her judgement.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Tampan (tampon?) i love me some Strawberry Festival.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Tampanian is how I heard it, but I prefer Tampon.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was going to mention this :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good old Plant City FL. I'm glad I live in the half way point to the Strawberry Festival and the state fair, that time of year gets real fun

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Who's going to The Stand tonight?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sounds like you live near Valrico

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Right after it, in Brandon

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That was my initial guess but I'd say Brandon is much closer to the fairgrounds than to the strawberry festival and not really "middle" :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Come to the central coast of California. You'll see strawberrys as far as the eye can see.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

And I would frolic in them!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Santa Maria! Strawberries EVERYWHERE

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

That's what city is just North of me!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's where I live! You in Los Alamos or something?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Lompoc, yea i know....

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Watsonville!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I live no long than 50 meters from strawberry fields, unfortunately they no longer have strawberries on them :(

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My home town also has a strawberry festival The town I use to camp in has an apple festival Just go to the country side, plenty of festivals

11 years ago | Likes 53 Dislikes 0

we have a strawberry festival in the spring, apple festival in the fall, and peach and blueberry festivals in the summer. it's pretty great.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I need sources!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lincolnton, NC has a yearly apple festival

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Apples are in my top three fruits, thanks!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I imagine most states in the US will have at least one annual German thing, for a while that's where most of our immigrants came from.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is true, but a festival of fruit isn't necessarily German.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Which town did you campf in

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Acton Maine

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Acton Maine

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So Acton Maine Campf? (Sorry, Germany)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's no reason for German civilians to be ashamed of a war they had nothing to do with that happened decades ago.

11 years ago | Likes 392 Dislikes 22

Its like blaming white Americans for slavery. The Confederate flag doesn't rascism anymore. Being proud of where you're from isn't wrong.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The flag is a symbol of a government defined by racism, so yes, that is still a problem. But everyday Americans aren't to blame for slavery

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ashamed no, remember yes

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

As a white American, my ancestors were still in Europe when the last slave was liberated.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Same. The other half of my family WERE slaves

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So no one try to give me white guilt.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The problem is that "National Pride" previously lead directly to the horrors of the Nazi Party. The German public has, and probably will 1/

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

tell that to white Americans

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

never forget that, and thus they as a people seem to FEAR "Nationalism". Also "National Pride" is a buzzword used by the current Nazis 2/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's ridiculous. I was called a Nazi for stating that I love Germany and the language. I've lived here for 20 years but I'm Croatian.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every citizen of every country should absolutely know their history and examine their present culture carefully.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you.

and other skinheads as a rallying cry.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Since the world cup in our country we all know this in germany, this guy just didn't had the memo.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Behavioural sciences have taught us that anyone can be a dick if circumstances favour it. It has nothing to do with a certain nation.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Don't play multiplayer games moderated by germans. The social management for Supremacy 1914 is quite ironically fascist.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well a few of those people still live.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't think (almost) any living German should have to apologize for mistakes made before their lifetime. Military or otherwise.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

They don't have to but they're leery of nationalism because of what it wrought. "Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it."

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

There is a difference between being ashamed of everything you are, and taking heed of past mistakes. It's just... sad...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Everything you are isn't just your country though?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ethnicity and nationality make for a pretty big part of each of our identities.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

thats the same as saying you cant be proud of germanys past succeses because you had nothing to do with what happend in the past

11 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 9

Excellent point. I think Germans should acknowledge their past mistakes. I also think others e.g. Americans should realise that they 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And why should you be?

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

Problem?

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

weren't all that good either. Racial segregation and eugenics were prominent and on the rise during the 30's, blacks got sterilised etc.2/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which is true. Feel pride for your own successes, not what someone else achieved just because they happen to be from the same country.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

You just took a giant shit on patriotism as a whole.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Believe it or not but it's entirely possible to love and devote yourself to your country without being proud of other peoples actions.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A colossal part of patriotism is als being proud of your country, cheering when your nation does well in sports and so on.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your countries image will affect you as a citizen's image so being concerned about it's affairs outside your own actions is only natural.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, we still get called out for it

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

As a Finn, my advice is to extend the middle finger to them. Ich meine es so. Wirklich. Ich hasse die "alle Deutsch sind Nazis" Leute -.-

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Had an american friend greet me with "Hallo mein Führer" once. When I was done shouting him into the ground he apologized and explained (1)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

WOW, "shouting him to the ground" you didn't have to be such a Nazi about it.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

that he thought it meant sth like "Hey boss". Then I explained to him what "Mein Führer" means. (2)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Doesn't it literally translate into "my leader"? But I guess the whole führer word kind of died out with Hitler...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...How the hell are people THAT ignorant?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It does not only have to do with feeling ashamed for the war, but also that there's a high sensibility for nationalism and it's dangers(1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 1

Well, thinking that your country is better than anything is stupid, but being moderately nationalist isn't bad. I'm proud to be American(1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but I'd be proud to be Spanish if I were born there. It just means you respect your culture and your country means something to you (2/2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Since it's pure coincidence that one is born in a certain country, and borders are arbitrary, why should you be "proud" of your country?(2/3)

11 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 8

Because I am proud of my country. America has accomplished amazing things. I love the land, culture, and people.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Because, those 'arbitrary borders' lead to well defined cultures within them. Being proud to be -blank- is being proud of the culture.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

Why do people feel like nationalism is wrong? I guess is the same reason socialism is bad People assume extremists represent the whole thing

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

This is often the question I've had about the US. Yeah, I have a pretty good life, but the BEST country...? Eehh...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

FEELINGS OF PRIDE AND SHAME ARE BOTH IRRATIONAL WHEN IT COMES TO THINGS YOU DIDN'T DO OR IDENTITIES YOU WERE GIVEN BY OTHERS.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

Nevertheless,Germany is great country to live in & it's not a shame to identify with the culture, landscape and people if you feel like it3/3

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

But Germans have twice become hyper nationalistic and twice done horrific things. They need to be very careful.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Uhh they're not alone when it comes to doing "horrific things". Lots of countries have done terrible things... even now. o_o

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ummm, they were no worse then any other side in WWII and nationalism had little to do with it...WWI was the death knell of monarchies.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Urgh...Of course, now i notice the grammar mistakes. I meant *kinds of bread.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

English as a second language. You are forgiven. (Says another German on here)

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Saying you should be ashamed of Nazi Germany is like me (American) taking blame for slave America. It doesn't make sense. Be patriotic.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fly your flag and show it proudly. It will make it easier for the next person to do it. I'm sure there are lots of you who feel the same way

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't worry about the small mistakes! Believe me, if you asked an American to write about the USA in German, we wouldn't be able to do it!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only in America do you really see the patriotic flag showing every day.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an American I agree Germany is rad, but I feel nationalism anywhere is dangerous as it leads to cultural hegemony (look at america)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I think nationalism isn't intrinsically bad, just too much of it is. But 'too much' of anything is bad. That's why it's too much!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You know, I havent really been in any country (and i have been in more then a dozen) where it is the custume to have flags out every day.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's okay the only German word I know is TOR! Because Football.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I lived in Germany for a year, Heidelberg, and I loved it. Great food, nice people, very clean, tons of bike paths. I'd love to go back.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think most of the world has forgiven Germany pretty quickly. We honestly wouldn't care if you were more patriotic.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I think the main problem is not that others cant forgive us, but rather were having a hard time forgiving ourselfs

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Give it time. You are a world leader, only thing keeping the EU together. Be proud of what you are doing now. Focus on that.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This reminded me of my German friend who speaks seven languages and still apologizes for making grammar mistakes in English.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're just looking for a reason to call someone else a (grammar)Nazi arent you?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Im not German....but i bloody love living here!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

schon okay, wäre bestimmt niemandem aufgefallen

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 and no one cares (especially because our two countries were enemies in WWII). I will be proud of our shared ancestry for both of us!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You know, OP, I find it really ironic that, as an American, I can wear on a sweatshirt all through school 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can still fix the descriptions in your album and they'll show up here. The only thing you can't change it the main title and pictures.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ah cool, i didnt know that. Im kinda busy right now ( Have to go to the grocery store soon) but i think ill change it later

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

NP, I learned that from my own album hitting the FP and immediately afterwards I noticed the hideous, hideous errors.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Since the world cup in our country it is no problem for a german to be proud to be german.... You just missed the memo

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Until we loose the next championship.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

THE WORLD CUP _IN_ OUR COUNTRY....... you probably didn't missed the memo, you are just unable to read ;-)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

My friend went there and told me the same thing. I hope things get better for you! One of the MOST gentle and kind ppl I know is german.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Your English is exemplary, and I miss being in Germany every day. I was only there two weeks! It's not enough!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you :) Im still a little bit unsure about my english. Reading/listening to it is fine, but speaking it can give me a little bit of 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

trouble. not to mention the accent xD 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The German accent is sexy and I will hear no dissent!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually have a video on youtube where im ranting about a videogame in english xD

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

To be fair, in England, if someone's showing an English flag, people will assume they're a racist yob.

11 years ago | Likes 704 Dislikes 4

Same in Sweden. :(

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Same in Hungary. The fucking right wingers ruined this for the rest of us.

11 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

stupid BNP, stealing our flag

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

I think it's more the English Defence League, since the British National Party tend to use the Union Jack.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Unless... theres football on.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

In the US, the racist yobs have their own flag

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I live in the middle of London and wouldn't fly the flag of St George. Everyone would think I was racist

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same in Sweden. Can't be proud.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an Eastern European living in England, I would not assume or think that, although I would consider it a possibility :)

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Thanks mate, and glad to have you with us.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I think it's a bit similar in NZ. You're a bit of a weirdo if you're displaying an NZ flag and aren't a school.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

+1 for yob.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When I was growing up, I understood "pride" as something you feel when you achieve something. To date, I still don't get how people feel 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

entitled to shove their pride for being born within the borders of a certain country down my throat. I don't give a shit. To me, it's 2/3

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

like you are telling me that you have no personal achievements to be proud of & instead you need to be proud of a group that you belong to.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They seems very similar to a George Carlin joke.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We do have such a shame about the George cross. If i saw someone with one hanging in their window i would assume the worst.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I get that same shit for my confederate flag. I know that feel bro

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Same in France, really. When someone says "I'm proud of my country", either it's during the football cup or what he really means is

11 years ago | Likes 102 Dislikes 4

"Fuck the arabs and blacks stealing our jobs" (lol.)

11 years ago | Likes 93 Dislikes 4

Now that I think about it, flags are Ok for football, and also politics (think about UMP meetings during the elections)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that's about it. DON'T BE PROUD OF YOUR COUNTRY, FUCKER, IT'S WRONG!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You just need those people to secede from France, create their own flag, and defeat them so they can have their own flag to wave for that.

11 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Ohhh, is THAT why we had the Civil War in the US?

11 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Yup, not about freeing slaves and equality for all men as some may think.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

It's getting that way in Australia too.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

what does that mean for all the morons CONSTANTLY waving american flags? Eh, pretty much the same thing.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yeah, pretty much the same in some parts of Sweden as well

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

You make a good point.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You shouldnt. Thats dumb. Many soliders fly it, and many of them are black. Not that blacks can be racist, but not the type your talking of

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Note for non-Americans: This is not a common opinion.

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Which makes you ignorant.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It makes me someone who's never met a bigot that didn't drape themselves in one flag or another.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

I think national pride should be something to be careful of and while this post has a point the US really over does it...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or it's the World Cup. I'd much rather live in a country wary of nationalism than one that questions anything other than blind patriotism.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

I agree and also think it's OK to be somewhat patriotic but for your fellow people not your government. I'm proud of NASA for instance.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It crosses a line when you think being born in a certain country makes you better. It's okay to be proud of fonts

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They aren't mutually exclusive though. That is the problem with the hate of national pride.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

True, but it treads a fine line. I think it's all kind of dumb though. Take pride in your own achievements, not random people you never met.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So I take you you have never in your life watched a sport and rooted for a team?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Treating politics like a sport with teams is a huge problem. I watch sport but people who refer to sports teams as 'we' worry me

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same in Ireland, flying the Tricolour outside of sporting events is weird...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ditto Australia

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I love Australia so much I'm gonna tie the flag around my neck with my shirt off and drag it through the mud at BDO.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Southern cross tattoo anyone?

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I do judge people with those. Probably unfairly.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

No, I'm pretty sure the judgement is fair

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not necessarily. I loved the Olympics here as I felt it took that association away and we should fly the flag and keep it ours.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same in the American South. I know it's not a country, and yes, wtf our history, but there's something special about the south.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Seeing the South American flag instantly makes me think of the KKK. But since listening to Lynyrd Skynyrd I've changed my opinion.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yes, but there is nothing special about the Confederate flag.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But being a racist yob here is better than being a Nazi anywhere, really.

Why would people fly the Irish flag in Scotland?

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Soccer holligans.

To show support for Celtic FC/Catholicism in general. It's called 'The Old Firm', and it is a major cause of violence.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

What you said is 100% true. The fact that this so-called "Unpopular Opinion Puffin" received overwhelming upvotes is a testament to that.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 have visited or want to visit before they die. People (in the Chicago area) that I know love Germany and Germans are too self conscious

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Agreed! I'm American too with some German heritage and I've been a huge fan of German soccer for years so I have a flag hanging in my dorm

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How has no one pointed out this guy's username?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i think I changed it in the interval this was like a year ago

and if you don't know the reference, watch Danger5

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or appreciate it. Love it. Add to it. I don't know but people seem to forget pride is not exactly a good thing.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

There's nothing wrong with being satisfied with the positive qualities of yourself or your surroundings.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sure but that's being happy about it. Being proud about a genetic accident is dubious.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm not riled up by it. But I have never understood it. Being proud of a place you live in, or the people who happen to be born there...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had a great German roommate once. She was so cool. She taught me that lower back tattoos are called "butt antlers" in Germany. Classic!

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Arschgeweih :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Butt Antlers. Brilliant!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

More like Ass antlers. a bit more crude :P Or Whorestamp

11 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 2

Sometimes I revise my wording to be shorter.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hey bro, I feel you. I have crippling flying fear, but had 2 go to wedding in DE. I took the Queen Mary 2 , then Eurostar, then autobahn :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It took a little longer but I had an absolutely incredible time. Now I hope to visit Europe much more often!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think everytime I fly I get a little more scared of it.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I'm literally at the airport gate on imgur. Wish me luck!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If I can get my boat someday I would sail people like you where you would like to go.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks man. Ive seen some pictures of the american landscape, and i would love to visit the place someday. If only i werent so afraid of 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 1

I upvoted. As a Polishman I am afraid they wont let me back in to my homeland. But I respect your right to be proud of who you are.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Come to California, you get a taste of everything. Germany is on my list of places to visit, a lot of my ancestors came from there.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

IMHO, the only people that actually punish themselves for the past are idiots. Study it, learn from it, move on; don't punish yourself.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

penises.

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

If you take an overnight flight and use dramamine (motion sickness pills that cause drowsiness) you'll sleep through the whole damn thing.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now all that is left would be the group of 10 guys to actually get me on board :D

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Easy, fake a disability, take drowsy pills on the ground, hop in a wheelchair, and let airport services do the rest.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

On a side note, beer is literally cheaper than water here. So. thats good.

11 years ago | Likes 3039 Dislikes 33

If you lived in America nobody would blink twice at your German pride. Americans have an odd appreciation for German. Even the NAZIs.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Lived there for a year - it was so clear they were not allowed to have pride. Was weird for me as an American - time to heal! I love Germany

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Czech: "still not cheap enough" :-)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

and the cars!!!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel you, fellow Northern European. It's kinda the same in Sweden. It's gotten better now but in the 90's, a Swedish flag meant "RACIST".

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And it's among the best beers in the world.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Definitely something to be proud of. But yeah, my stance on it is that enough time has past, enough with the shame/shaming of Germany.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love Germany!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Fuck those people. As a portuguese living in germany now for almost 25 years. This country rocks. Schwarz-Rot-Gold!

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

As a german who loves Portugal I have to give that compliment right back to you.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AND YOU HAVE LORD OF THE LOST!! That is all.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Strawberry at 3€/kg? I already decided what I will eat when drinking a beer in Germany: 1kg(or 2) & 3 liters (or 4). Is this the basic meal?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Na dann, Prost! Ein Grund mehr, mal wieder nach Deutschland zu fahren.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

A Pole living in Britain here. I get the opposite treatment: "But you got invaded." whenever I express pride. I feel you, brother ;)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nur wenn du Öttinger oder andere Pissplörre säufst ;)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was visiting Germany for a week one time, I don't even know how I got out of there with a functioning liver

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not to mention that germany is not just popular because of the beer, but in some areas because of the whine as well! So much alcohol! xD

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But I have to ask. Why do you stare all the time? I've been to a few cities and locals just STAAAARE at tourists :c

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of people have mentioned "The stare". I never realize it, but i guess thats because i grew up here xD

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember me and my friends were out at night(drunk),but we were trying to be as quiet as possible. People still stared. I felt so naked...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember that from when I was there. Cheaper than water, soda, tea, food, etc. Viel Glück, mein Freund.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an American, I would love to live in Germany. or Sweden.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Im an Aussie and I dated an Austrian/German. 10/10. Would go to Germany. Food beer and cars. Also woman.

11 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Just 1 woman though.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Not a bad deal if you're into an entire country banging only one woman.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know man, Kaufland had stupidly cheap flats of beer, especially when you take the deposit out of it...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When I was there in 2010 I heard that used to be the case, but they passed a law requiring water to be the cheapest. But only marginally so.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is that Funfair in Dusseldorf?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Germans are awesome man. Fuck the haters.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this probably won't seem fair to you, since it had nothing to do with you, but those WWs were serious business and are still quite recent.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ADOPT ME DAMMIT

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm American. Was stationed in Germany for 4 years. That place is beautiful and incredible. You have every right to be proud!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In glad I saw this! I'll be visiting at the end of October and we're trying to decide STILL where we need to visit. Any suggestions?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I feel you. I love my country but America has done some sick shit in the past. Then again hypocrisy rules the world so go figure.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am half German, Half Native American, I am always proud of my German half. And I always root for Germany during World cup.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yay for you, and love of your home! :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP when I come to visit your country lets get drunk and celebrate how awesome it is. As a Texan we are very good at showing pride.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hi OP, I´m analyzing all the forms of segregation, elitism and some more, and nationalism is a really bad one... people can be racist...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1/2 Of all the Germans I know, you're all great people. I only known 4-6 but you're good people. I'm not mad about WW2 and I don't feel that

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm an American that lived in Germany for 4 years. I LOVED it! Be proud. Fuck em. Just don't yell Deutschland Uber Alles. Ha ha.

Lets not forget the mandatory healthcare for everyone. Its a great feeling to be able to go to the doctor anytime you need.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

American here. Better to go into debt, even bankruptcy. Remember, every time you receive free healthcare the communists win

As a direct descendant of a Holocaust escapee (they got out before the round up) I wish you could be proud too. It's not your fault.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

As an American, I want to live in Germany. Economy, beer, womerns, culture. I want it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I live with a Canadian. Join the party :D

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yay ! (^.^)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Note: We should be careful not to accidentally wave flags in such a way that we land a jet outside the pub

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

How hard would it be to become a German citizen?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My sister and brother inlaw went to Germany on their honeymoon, OP! They LOVE it there and love how welcoming and kind the people are

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I almost always go to germany for October fest this weekend. But sadly I'm to busy. But i love germany. With love, your dutch neighbour.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll admit I'm glad my family left Germany before it even was Germany, but I know that not all Germans are latent Nazis.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

"not all" is a gross exaggeration.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Very good. :D Also, from a Brit, I think Germany has a LOT to be proud of. <3

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Every person I know who has been to Germany is dying to go back. I ate at a German restaurant in Manhattan once and my life changed forever.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Habben wir einen Deutche? Hallo!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Guten Tag :)

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ich finde dein Post sehr gut.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Your situation is not only in Germany. In France, we didnt do the Shoah but we have the exact same reaction to toward our flag. So weird.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I lived in Germany for 3 years and there are many reasons it's awesome. I did notice the forced lack of pride, until the world cup. As an1/2

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

2/2 American I thought the death stares were just how old Germans looked. I've rarely seen anything different on their faces.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I don't blame Germany for the atrocities of the war. I blame the chancellorship, and the Nazi regime. I fucking love Germany.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ich stimme dir vollkommen zu. Ich mag es hier auch und bin stolz Deutsch zu sein!

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had me at cheaper beer

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The water could be really expensive though

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you want to bitch about the social ramifications of a world war, maybe dont be the country who started that shit.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 4

with that said, in america if you hang a flag on your car or window we just assume you are a product of inbreeding.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yes! beer! Delicious German beer! As an expat living for 4 yrs in DE, this place rocks!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Beer is good

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I want to try ALL the breads! I found out I was part German and it's a cool thing! Enjoy your country!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks :) I actually make my own bread once in a while. Its a rather heavy bread, with bacon bits in the dough :D

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yum!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh yeah, when I studied abroad in berlin I was pretty much broke so I always bought beer instead of the sparkling water when we ate out 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not if you don't like beer. :@

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Like how white Americans will be forever known as slave owners, you'll be forever a Nazi. Sorry OP. My condolences.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'd love to live in Germany, OP when can I move in?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My mother was stationed in Illesheim for 6 years in the 80s and she still talks about it fondly.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm going to apply to work and study in Germany, but I need to write an essay on Rostock, Heilbron, or Kassel. Are you familiar with them?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sadly, no. I grew up near "Kaiserslautern"

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Drat! Ah well I still have a few months, thanks for the reply.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Youre welcome :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You should just calm down and remember that you have German beer and beautiful girls. It can't be all that bad.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Same in Czech Republic.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And the best: Water is already cheap. So I'm okay with it.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Well now that it's oktoberfest, doesn't all beer get more expensive then?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

1/2 A lot of my friends are German, and I just spent a month in Germany this summer and this exact topic came up a lot. As an American my

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3/2 (oops) (and is still doing sometimes cough cough,) but because of beauty and potential.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love Germany, especially Berlin; been there three times and it's not enough! You go ahead and love Germany here in Imgur!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is why you're not allowed to celebrate being German. It's because you'll make the rest of us jealous, like you just did.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

American here: I'm trying to learn German. I'm going to learn it; fly over; and hang German flags all over the damned place!

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

That's beautiful. I love to hear americans speak german.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I took 4 years in school/college. I need to pick it back up.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Does it sound good with an American accent?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It sounds absolutely great!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The funniest I've ever heard was a guy from Texas who learned german in Bavaria and then lived in Hessian.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Learning German in Bavaria? Do they offer it as foreign language there?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ive been to germany, its a truely stunning place to be and live. so yes, be proud. though im betting the weather isnt as bad as new england

11 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

The weather in germany pretty much only comes in two varieties: Freezing your ass off, or getting roasted by the sun.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 2

ours does that cycle, every five min. i visited there in the summer, and yeah, i agree it was roasting.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its only summer for like 2 months, so its okay i guess xD

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Still not as bad as Canada.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

HAHAHAHA, I'm from Florida, my 3 summers in Germany are the nicest I've seen in my life. You "roast" for like two weeks. Winter is dreary.

11 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

that's it - you think how nice the weather is and how you'll enjoy it on the weekend - and if the weekend comes the good weather is over...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When my sister and I went to Europe, we drank beer for 3 weeks straight...for this reason...haha

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And you guys have Daniel Bruhl, so that's also good. Well, for me, anyway. *sighs contentedly*

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stop. I already wanted to move to Germany before. You're just making it worse.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But i didnt even mention the thousands of bakeries D:

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I actually really like german people and the country of Germany, i dont think the majority of germans are nazi sympathizers so who cares :)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in fact i would say with our KKK and that bullshit we might have more neo-nazis in the US than in germany

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm German American, and I would love to visit your country some day OP. Be proud, I am and I wasn't even born there.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So are the women! (runs away)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

TIL: I like Germany too.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm sorry bud. I'm happy you're a proud German. I'm a proud American with primarily German roots. I hope to visit Germany one day and 1/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

11 years ago | Likes 230 Dislikes 1

Not in Berlin

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or Globus, Aldi, Lidl, etc...beer is often the same price or cheaper than bottled water.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You just gotta shop at Aldi god I love Aldi its the thing I'm guna miss the most when I leave

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I bought a beer today for 29 cents today in a German supermarket. Beer is fucking cheap!! Like seriously cheap. I really love Germany!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not true. There is a law called Apfelsaftgesetz and at least one Non-alcoholic has to be cheaper than the cheapest alcoholic drink

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually, beer is ridiculously cheap even in the supermarket compared to water. I know first hand when I went there 2 years ago.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i should know better since i am german

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Then things must have changed. When I was there last, beer was 1 to 1 1/2 Euro in markets in several cities, water more in 3 Euro range.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i never saw water for 3 euro before in my life, the water i buy is arounf 29 cents per 500ml bottle

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

yeah but people only go to bars. I don't think there even are any supermarkets in Germany, it's just all bars.

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

nah man nah when I lived in Berlin beer at the Reichelt Supermarkt was cheap as shit

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bull. . 88€ für ein 1L Bier? Das ist billig!!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sehr billig.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

... you have to pay for water in bars? o_O

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

yes of course, we also only like sparkling water :P

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

If it's mineral water, yes. If it's tap water you may be charged a nominal service fee since the work is the same as for any other drink.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not sure about German law, but bavarian law forbids to charge on tap water in any gastronomic environment. If you tip tho it's appreciated.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's incorrect.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Actually, they have to give you tap water without a fee if you really need it, or you could go to court.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you need it, as in you're at risk of fainting/dieing. If they don't that'd be "unterlassene Hilfeleistung". Otherwise, no, they don't.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know where you got that Information from but it's wrong. At the supermarket you can buy Beer for as low as 0.80€ , in a bar 2.30€

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

got the information from beeing german

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

well I'm german too this would be actually the first time that the beer in a bar was cheeper then in the supermarket. Where do you live?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Es geht nicht um den Vergleich Bierpreis im Supermarkt/Bar. Es ging darum das in Bars ein Bier meisten weniger kostet als ein Wasser. (1)

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Und im Supermarkt ist Wasser billiger als Bier. Natürlich ist Bier im Supermarkt billiger als in einer Kneipe.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Wait--in Germany it's cheaper to go to a bar and drink? What sorcery is all this?

11 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

no - buying beer in a bar is cheaper than buying water in a bar - but buying it in the supermarket water is cheaper

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Gotcha. Tapwater is typically free in America. Is.. is tapwater free in German bars? I want that to be so.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

you dont get tap water in germany really. but a seltzer like water. because the tap is heavy on the calcium

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

No, but the price for beer is lower than for water in most bars.

11 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I know this is one year old. But by German law water or another non alcoholic beverage HAS to be cheaper than any alcoholic drink

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have to pay for water?! wtf

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you've had a few drinks, they should be happy to give you a free glass of water, since it will keep you hydrated.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don't, if you just want normal tap water ( Which is perfectly safe here) Only for sparkly water. But most germans like sparky so..

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Actually there is a law here in Germany that the cheapest drink has to be without alcohol.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

this.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We don´t consider beer as alcohol, it´s a basic food

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

except for Adelskrone, which is the cheapest motherf*cker of all

11 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

Pfui!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Turmbräu (Burgbräu) FTW

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Öttinger though. 0,30€ per bottle!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Tell me more about this Adelskrone.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 5

it's a beer brand of a german dicount chain. it can't compete with the 'good' beers but it's not that bad, and really cheap. ...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...like 32 cents for a 0.5 L can. and that's the main reason to buy it D:

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

is that this pisswater you get from ALDI? :D

11 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

from Penny :D

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Nevermind. Just realised i drive past a Penny Markt everyday when going to work. :D

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Wasn't Penny bought by Rewe? Haven't seen Penny for a long time.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's not completely different in England. A lot of people are scared to show national pride due to the risk of looking like an EDL member.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats really a shame. I havent been in England yet, but there are some places that just look gorgeos, not to mention all the cool stuff 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

all the cool stuff you guys have, like madame tussaud. We have something similiar here...but its kinda hard to explain "Körperwelten"

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I googled Körperwelten, it looks cool but also kinda scary haha.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

sounding like a maniac.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep, it is xD Its kinda like a museum..filled with body parts. and as far as i know, REAL body parts. try describing that without 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

this was my biggest problem visiting germany in 40C heat. I'm used to free water in bars. I really miss breakfast in a bakery though!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, thats a good point. I was really surprised that you get water for free outside of germany in restaurants. To be fair, you dont have 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

to tip nearly as much here, because the minimum pays are higher.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm from the UK. we tip about as often as you do. The law here doesn't require bars to provide water as such but most councils issue bar 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

licenses with a stipulation that they have to offer free water if they serve alcoholic drinks. so many people here think it's the law 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wish that would be the case here. If we would do that, id actually go into a bar xD

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know how it is in other parts of germany but I was pleased to see lots of alcohol-free beer on my visit to Koeln!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

also, every time I go to germany I get addicted to multivitamin juice and you just cant get the same quality and price here in the UK.
