Long time lurker , very few post ...
My son was killed in a single car accident as a back seat passenger . He was wearing his seatbelt . The driver was drunk and walked away without a scratch . The other passenger had minor injuries . They were coming home from a work xmas party at a major chain bar/restuarant in Canada . Everyone was over served . The other passengers bar bill included 4 beers and 16 shots in a 4 hour span . He is 19 yrs old . My son turned 22 yrs old on the 12th of December . Graduated College on the 14th of December . And on the 18th a police officer knocked on my door at 7:55 am .
I have a younger son (15 yrs old ) and a very good support system around me . I have all the distress phone numbers I need although I havent called yet . The viewing on the 27th and funeral on the 28th . I just wanted to thank this beautiful community for keeping me together . Hug your kids and tell them you love them .

Nothing I can say will be enough, but I want you to know that this internet stranger feels both sad and angry for you. I hope you allow yourself to feel whatever you will feel, and that both you and your younger son eventually feel at peace.

So sorry for your loss, my wife is a grief counselor... there are a lot of great books on Amazon dealing with grief. My favorite is a book called Fuck Death.

From a bartender- please press charges or take whatever other legal recourse you can to fuck up that venue and the specific bartender who served the drunk driver that you can, that is INCREDIBLY irresponsible over serving and they deserve to be shut down/jailed. God DAMN I am sorry for your loss.

Im in the industry too and thank you . We have legal council and the liqour and gaming control board of ontario has survailance and bar bills of everyone that was there that night and the investigation is well underway .They'll pay . Thank you so much for your kind words .

Sorry, but you are absolutely incorrect- of the multiple parties at fault here, the bar and its staff are definitely culpable. Where I live and work, were a similar situation to happen to a patron I had served, my employer would lose their liquor license and I would be charged with manslaughter and banned from ever serving alcohol again. And that's exactly what should happen when some dipshit bar/bartender over serves an already intoxicated patron in pursuit of sales/tips.

Could be wrong, but it sounds like the the quoted receipt is for the passenger that was in the same vehicle as OP's son. Also impossible to know without more context, they could have easily paid for drinks for others as well.

The shots were definatly not all consumed by the passenger but even being on the conservative end of that lets say 5 . The 4 beers were definatly consumed by him and that is well over the 1 standard drink an hour that is legally aloud as per smart serve .

There's literally no way the law calls for "1 drink an hour" max, that's what the rule of thumb is for what a regular (smaller) person's body can process. 1 drink an hour wouldn't even make most people buzzed let alone drunk. Anyone who weighs more than 150lbs can handle more than a drink an hour too, not to mention that wouldn't account for biological sex either. I also still don't understand why we're going after the other passenger either, they weren't driving let alone the one that caused it
