I've been here since 2015? I had a small post for then. Lurked since before then and continued to lurk until I did a Trump Dump on the electoral college decision against him 12/14/20. That was my 5-year anniversary, roughly. I was born in 1965 (Gen X, not boomer) and am a journo, unmarried and no kids -- "widowed" in 2001 by a fiancee who didn't want to marry me and leave me with the cancer bills. That was the second in a series of young deaths that left me a bit damaged and slow to bond with people. I grew up in NW Indiana, in the Chicago area, and did grad school in Iowa. I've worked as a journalist in all three of the "I" states in a row (not Idaho). I've been a cartoonist/illustrator (still am), radio dj/newscaster, tarot card reader, teacher (all levels, daycare through college), PR person, computer consultant, standardized test grader (ACT) and a slew of other things. I have no mechanical or musical aptitude (but have dated three music teachers, including my late, and have a large CD/vinyl/tape/music collection). As I get older, I add new things to the list of what I can't eat: pork (hard to digest after being a vegetarian -- and yes, that includes bacon), anything spicy (basically peppers and horseradish) , caffeine (yes, all caffeine) and now wheat/gluten. Most gluten free pizza is pizza-flavored cardboard. I am a Ravenclaw but not overly into Harry Potter. I was Marvel back in the 1970s-1980s and have original X-Men comics from then. My Doctors are Tom Baker, David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston (in that order). While Matt Smith and Peter Davison vie for last place. I still have a crush on Leela/Louise Jameson. My favorite writers are Mike Royko, H.L. Mencken, Ambrose Bierce, Truman Capote, Dorothy Parker, Jack Douglas, Alexander King, Susan Orlean, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. I'm into literary journalism. I like geek culture but am really not a fanboy for one specific genre/series. I like Art Nouveau, Art Deco and mid-century modern/populuxe styles. a one-time friend said I am the ghost of the 20th century. I'm a dog person who inherited a loving tortie cat who tells me when it's time for bed, when I leave the front door open, when the dryer buzzer goes off, when I've been on the computer too long, and when it;s time to get up. She also meows at me to open the frig so she can look at what's in it. Scoop was named by the readers of a paper when she was a newsroom cat (see my post on it) and considers any woman in my life as the side chick. I'm post-punk, post-modern, post-structuralist, and post-raisin bran. And I'm trying to get an online store going and write a memoir of losing my fiancee to cancer during the 9/11 year. I'm currently working in the second biggest city (and third biggest urban area) in Hoosierland and sometimes bored out of my mind. Send lawyers, gun and money -- or at least help me not feel lonely or bored. And where some are a leg man or thigh man or ass man or breast man, I am an eye man. So when I look a woman in the eyes, I'm not so much being sincere as I am doing the equivalent of looking at her legs or breasts or ass...
