My mom is always on my case because I sleep all day. I worked 8p-6a and have to do it again today... like when am I supposed to sleep then?!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My so works 3rd. Every once in awhile I want to shake him awake at 4pm. But I won't bcuz he works hard.

I've never commented on anything but as a night shift nurse working 12-14hr shifts, this. So much this.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just got home from 3rd shifting... I'm a daywalker and a nightwalker, but I hate work calling me when I'm trying to sleep x.x

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

20 years active duty taught me there's no hour on the clock or day on the calendar off-limits. Try 22-hour days for a month or more.

10pm-7am inventory management: 8am-1pm breakfast/lunch short order cook. 2pm-9pm sleep.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I like the part where people don't think twice about calling you about work in the middle of the day. Asshole, I don't call you at 2am.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

"Hey wanna come over and watch the game Sunday afternoon?"...I can't, I have to sleep. 3rd shift = a day and a half weekend.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Last summer I was working 3rd shift and had a class at 10a. I wouldn't get to sleep until 1p & dbag roommate would call me lazy for sleeping

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The remedy I take is using hotel black out curtains for darkness and a loud box fan to drown out the noise. Oh yeah, ambien helps a lot too

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

I think the stigma is the type of job you might be working at 3am. Late night cop > daytime animal masturbator.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I can't up vote this enough !!! Get off work at 0700, get a call from someone at 1200, "what ? havent you got enough sleep yet?'. NOOOOOOOO

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This, I sleep durring the day, and everyone makes all the noise they want, but god forbid I use the restroom at 1am cuz omg so loud

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

What do you mean you can't hangout all day? Your not doing anything?!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bring a virus to work b/c you're sick, no one cares. Bring Ebola to work b/c you're a virologist, everyone loses their minds.

Drive your semi into the loading bay, no one cares. Drive your semi into the elementary school, everyone loses their minds.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My favorite part of this is when the day folks wake you up all day and if you make noise at night it's an entirely different story.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

11pm-7am 6 days a week. Fucking sucks.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's always amazed me how confused everyone else is about third shift.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

I've been working 3rd shift for almost 3 years now. I have had to explain how my schedule works to family and friends too many times.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I work 3rd shift at a drug rehab...usually i just sit here or i nap but tonight i had to catch up 2 months worth of notes for day shift...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

"I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay.."

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Haven't thought of this for years. You made me laugh!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sleep?? What's that?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha ive done this!!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nothing like flipping your sleep schedule every weekend so you don't feel like a piece of crap for sleeping tell 9pm on your day off

10 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 1

ive always thought that doing that is silly, but then ive never worked night shift so what do i know

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel that. I work Tuesday morning to Saturday morning every week from midnight to 8am... Take a nap Saturday and then go from there.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I gave up on that ages ago. I only switch if I'm going out of town, and try to do that for at least a week at a time.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Used to buy a 6-pack at 7:30 am and got the worst looks every time lol

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

tried doing that once after nigh shift, then realized I can't because you can only buy beer between 9 and 21 in this country, fucking shit.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Either tell them to fuck the hell off and eat shit or tell them you're gonna drink it in the evening

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My night shift ends at 7:30am and I gotta wait until 9, alcohol isn't sold here until then. Finland!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yea, just sorta smiled and did my thing. I always thought it was funny tho. Judge all you want fuckers, I do what I want! :P

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do you live in Utah? I may be a tad alcoholic, but who gives a crap if someone is buying beer at any point during the day?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup, my boss refers to me as a vampire because I like the late shift. Pointed out that in winter. The day shift don't see sunlight all day

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Drink beer at 7 in the morning and yell at the neighbors for keeping you up at 9.

I'd always have drinks at my coworker's place before heading home. It was fun until I realised I was walking past an elementary school drunk

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately I work security so I am alone all night. There are no coworkers to drink with, so I drink alone.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, the looks I get when I stop at the store on my way home from work to get a six pack ... at 8 am. =/

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hahaha same here. Cept I get off work at 5 and walk into the store at 6 when they open.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone currently drunk at 10 in the morning because of this, cheers!

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 1

As someone who freelances and works in a nightclub, that feels like me 5 days out of 7.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this is my life...

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I worked at a golf course & had a group of regulars that were 3rd shifters; they'd buy a case of beer & play 18 at 6 am every day.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I worked 4 days on 4 off and then 4 nights, 4 off.. Buying beer after nights at 8 in the morning and getting seemed odd. For a while....

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

7 to 6 here. I love the night shift,.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So accurate the looks I get buying beer at 830 am but I just got off work!

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I wish we could buy alcohol that early in Australia

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be fair about half of the customers at a liquor store that early in the morning are alcoholics. I stock up at more normal hours.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I worked 3rd shift. There were bars that were open for us to drink at 8:30am.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Praise you boys... the single reason they allow alcohol to be served in the mornings

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I love Nevada. Majority of bars never close and if they do, there's always the casino. I work nights so i know your pain. Beers at 7am

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What magical place do you live?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Michigan

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is it too late to take back my comment about you living in a magical place?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I feel like the whole stigma of morning drinking is kinda bs and mostly used as a way for people to convince themselves their not alcoholics

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

*they're

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I didnt have the characters left for they're

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ha! Thanks that was awesome. I find myself making up abbreviations and crossing my fingers they make sense.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Lol, that's awesome

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Worse than third shift. .. Compressed Work Week night shift. Ask me how I know.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Please explain.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do 3 7-7s and a 7-1... Then slap some forced OT on top

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did the same thing at a data center. Takes a toll man.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

3-1/2 days on & 3-1/2 days off - all predictable daytime hours - that sounds amazing! Are the days off weekends? Even better.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All nights Sat -Tues usually get Thurs and Fri off because of ot

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try 2 weeks of 10 hr days then 2 weeks of 12hr days. That's 4weeks no days off. Then a month or 2 off

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try rotating 12 hour shifts. 3 days 7-7p, off one day, 7p-7a off a day, repeat

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm doing it right now.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is it, is it fun?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Beyond your wildest nightmares.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Bet it's nice when your neighbors blow leaves and mow their lawn for 6 hours while you're trying to sleep, right?

10 years ago | Likes 123 Dislikes 1

God yes. My apartment is constantly full of lawn mowing noise along with several ice cream trucks that make rounds.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

People also blast their music at 8 in the morning. Who the hell does that?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That is happening to me right now and I'm about to loose my shit!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ugh. Before I lost my job, I got home from work around 12-1am, and I didn't get to bed until 4am. My bedroom is next to the entrance (1/?)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

of my apartment building and right outside the parking lot. My neighbors are NOT quiet when leaving for work. -.- (2/2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My neighbor takes a leaf blower to his roof 3 times a week. It drives me nuts!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

he's doing it right now....as I'm about to lay down for a nap...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're tuned into everything sleeping during the day.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Earplugs and a sleepmask are my saving grace.

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

I read that as "earslugs".

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Bablefish are useful but not for this particular problem.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I live above children who screech all day earplugs are my best friend

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

When my dad worked night's he told the neighbors not to mow their lawn at noon, because that's when he was sleeping. Well, eventually they

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Stated mowing at noon again. So he went out on a weekend and mowed the lawn at 3am. One time. "That's what the headlights are for" he said.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Love how he was even polite w/ the object lesson. He chose a weekend. I'd be so tempted to grab a headlamp and weed wack at 3AM on a Monday.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They didn't mow their lawns at noon anymore...

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Also, "how can you eat dinner at 5am, that is crazy!" - Take your day and add 12hrs, that's my 'day

10 years ago | Likes 213 Dislikes 0

Move to Australia?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

m'day*

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

when i worked grave, 7p-7a, i eat breakfast for 'dinner'. and dinner for 'breakfast' before work. meal routine was keeping me sane

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I still try and eat the right meals at the right time, I only do 4 night every 2 weeks though so I guess im an amateur.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I eat dinner around 1 a.m. twice a week and my boss doesn't get why I hate the late shift so much... 5...5? (Shudders)

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

When I had night shift, Woke up 9pm, brunch at work when I started 11pm, dinner at 5-6am and quit work at 7am. Went to bed around 1pm.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You can get used to it, but it somewhat isolates you from other people.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Only those filthy casuals with diurnal schedules.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thats the appeal, at least for me it is. I hate people.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I used to have 3 days off, worked 4x10. it was glorious. Now it's back to 5x8 :\

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had 7 on, 7 off. Was perfect, vacation every second week and ample of time twisting rhythms. Bad pay thou.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Same job was doing 4x10 sometimes 4x12, then off 3 days all "3rd" shift. Rocked just over 400 hours of overtime for the year.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In U.S. overtime is 1.5 regular pay.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

replace AM, with PM is what I say

10 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Then some people get so confused by that like you just tried to teach them latin

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Ante meridiem muta post meridiem, blenne.
