We need a universal power socket design

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We do. Nobody but Brazil uses it though. https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/standards.png

Shocking

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Did you know there's an international-standard for wall sockets and Brazil is the only country to use it?

Wall sockets seems like it would be an easy thing to make universally similar. Like the usb port.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But you have all the ones that are already build and all the plugs.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dammit have your upvote

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The US should just adopt European plugs and be done with it.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

Why?

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Everything developed before Schuko is garbage and Schuko itself is pretty bad compared to more modern systems.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

Actually, most Danish plugs/sockets just have two prongs/holes

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

WHY IS THERE NOT A UNIVERSAL TYPE OF PLUG

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Pre existing infrastructure and the cost to replace them.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

One good reason is that the Voltage & Hertz coming out of that plug tends to be different depending on your location. You'd have to (1)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

standardize a LOT more than the plugs. In fact, if the plugs were standardized and the supplied volts weren't, things could be very bad. (2)

Scared one is obviously French. Someone is of fetching its brown trousers.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

did you know that france is in europe?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Unicorn is french

At least our sockets have an on and off switch!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dammit, have we ever shot any damn movies on U.S. soil at this point?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least ours stay in.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

I've never had any issues with our plug sockets

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well, I mainly stayed in hostels in the US with really shitty old ones. Had to sticky tape my cords in.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I heard a sad trombone in my head when I saw this.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

*pissed mars* American sockets don't want to deal with your shit

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Greetings from a fellow European socket! ◕。◕

Hello, Belarus.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

It's so cute. You should feel ashamed when you plug it up.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I talked to him. He's fine if I do it when I'm gone. He's thankful because he can take a nap in the dark whilst charging my powerbank

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Why do American outlets usually have two openings while other countries have one per outlet?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

All mine (Aus) have four...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So we can plug more than one thing in at a time

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

How widespread is it to see the american wall socket with built in usb chargers? Ive personally only seen it once in a hotel room.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is becoming more common (much like in-wall ethernet drops).A coworker recently had a house built and installed a few USB-only sockets.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

My favorite restaurant has them right at the bar!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can buy them on Amazon for about $25 each. Any wall plug can be swapped out for one with USB built in.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I put them in all my bedrooms right by the bed just a month ago. Eliminates need for power strip

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Was there a lot of renovation work to install it? Anything involving re-wiring i would have to get my landlord, unless its an easy install?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not too common, especially because the usb standard is currently transitioning.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also if anyone has experience with it hpw difficult is it to change the sockets in my apartment to include usb chargers?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Very easy to do, turn off the breaker remove a few wires put them on new socket and turn breaker back on.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here's a link showing how easy, you don't need to test it if you know what breaker the socket is on https://www.google.com/amp/m.wikihow.com

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://www.snappower.com/product/duplex-charger-single/ with this you don't need to mess with wires, just change the face plate

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And now I'm sad because my plug sockets don't have faces

9 years ago | Likes 243 Dislikes 1

On the bright side, it is considered by many to be the best socket in the world.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or, if those round things are eyes, other holes makes it look like an icehokey mask. U know, like in that Texas's chainsaw murderer film.(?)
