The Larung Gar Buddhist Academy, which is probably the world's largest Buddhist monastic community, was founded by Choeje Yishin Norbu Khenpo Jigme Phuntshok.

The academy, as framed by the late Khenpo, has been serving as the wellspring of knowledge.

It is also the home for many Buddhist practitioners and the source of happiness for people across the globe.

The Chinese government is starting to destroy it.

Chinese are the worlds assholes...

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

This is why the last true Xiaolin monk lives in NewYork.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So why are they taking out down?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Official answer: overcrowding/fire hazard. Real answer: Religion is scary and could lead to people thinking things.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

For some reason I can't find this place in Google maps. Any attempts??

I'll take one! Hello China? I've got something you want, but it'll cost you...That's right...ALL the tea!

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

The more I learn about China, the more I dislike China

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 4

You're simple.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I'm happy!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I'm not trying to preach here, but I think a countries founded on atheistic principles are going to have issues like we see in China now.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 6

what the heck is an atheistic principle?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're right. We should make sure all countries are founded on religion. That works so well.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not what I meant.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What then?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes because being an atheist is the same as being mao

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't say it was the same but that there might be some unique problems bc of that. Foundation for morality has to come from somewhere.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And if the communist party is their only foundational pillar...well, I don't think that's a good thing.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why?!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Because the Chinese government is 100% douchebags

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Chinese governement wants to reduce the population of the institute to 5,000 residents when there are well over 10,000 monks and nuns alone.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Looks like they are in the middle of nowhere, probably not hurting anyone or intentionally upsetting anyone. Just minding their own business

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

This is a country that considers the Dalai Lama a terrorist.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

China doesn't care. China, last I heard, has it out for Buddhism. They particularly want to control Tibet and Nepal, Buddhist hotspots.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

There should be a war on China. >:(

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 15

Can't do that, too much trade comes from them. First, we need to fuck up North Korea.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

It's OK. Fundamentally, they do not desire or get attached to things.

9 years ago | Likes 251 Dislikes 18

Meh, we'll just start again

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But it would be nice for them to have a place to stay.

9 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 0

True, but one may argue from the perspective that there is a certain injustice being committed, and that is what op is calling attention to.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's actually kind of impressive on they're part. Things are just things.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This is the same reason the likes of ISIS and the Taliban destroy religious symbols...

China is just a horrible country when you look at it.

I think you meant *drivers

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

getting better actually. what with all the new freeways and sports cars...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is true, they are infamous for being horrible tourists lacking in manners as well as being loud, uncultured and uneducated.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

If you disagree with this statement, all you have to do is google "chinese tourists" and see for yourself.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Amen

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

That's easier to say when you're outside, not emotionally invested in the country. We've all got some pretty horrible elephants in the room.

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 4

Yeah, Australia's no different, what with that Four Corner's program last night, but China's got some of the bigger Elephants.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You shouldn't talk about your mother in law that way. When she's in the room anyways.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Chinese mothers are much more akin to horses

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So very true; but as an American, I'll be the first to admit that my country is a horrible one :/

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That is an insane over generalisation. Please be American, the Hypocrisy would be pure.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 6

I think that's an over generalisation in of itself to believe I'm an American. I'm Australian, and we have reason to be wary of China.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

if you're an Australian you've got reason to be wary of paper plates You might cut yourself ya dingo-shaggin mouth breather. Back in ya pen.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really don't give a damn about the "everybody has problems" crap. China is a much worse country than most.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

If i had the same job and income, I would chose to live in China than USA. Being surrounded by Yanks would degrade my intellegance

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I hope that was satire.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a Chinese person: the modern city culture of China's as fucked as Beijing's pollution.

9 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 0

Wait, are you using some sort of workaround to bypass the Government blocks?

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

Most young people know how to get around it

9 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

I see.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As a Chinese born in Canada. After talking to Chinese transfer students at my university, yes. You guys have just as bad brainwashing as USA

9 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

Oh eat me.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Have fun voting for Trump or Clinton. You guys definitely have your democracy under control.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Okay? What the fuck does our shitty political situation have to do with your equally shitty attitude towards an entire nation?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm an American and I resent that. All children in America are happy and are all winners and America is the best country ever and forever

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Actually they've come a hell of a long way in a very short time. But they still have a ways to go yet.

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 4

Sadly it appears that their increase in prosperity is just making it easier for the Commy shitheads to increase their output of evil.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Have you seen how much of the South China Sea they are claiming?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

They just need to shake off the whole trying to control the population and human rights violations stuff. Oh, and leave Tibet alone.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

They're actually cracking down harder than ever now. Just this week they are taking control of all internet media reporting.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not surprising.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The government lives in fear of collapsing.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And how do you think they could avoid that?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

By continuing to tread the fine line between democracy and totalitarianism, I guess.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And not start war a with the rest of the Asia...

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They certainly don't want a war with America and Australia. Trade is too important.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean the South China Sea border dispute they have with Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brunei. And in another area with Japan.
