This is news to me are they infamous for suckng at driving?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Swift's the largest trucking company in North America. Between that, hiring new drivers, and training their own, they have a lotta accidents

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Meanwhile, J.B. Hunt breathes a sigh of relief, because they used to be the joke of the interstate before the internet was big.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

These blatant PR posts are getting out of hand. Who WOULDN'T want to work with these fun guys on all their off-road adventures.

Inb4 something about Taylor Swift's relationship history

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Swift picks up product from our plant every day. Can confirm they are the worst drivers. One got stuck on the train tracks. And they're rude

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

JB Hunt about matches them though

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I take it Swift is not known as a quality company?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They're a training company, so people will sign on to work for so many years in exchange for a CDL.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Swift: Can you operate an 18-wheel diesel tornado safely in the public sphere? A Drunk Uncle: Ya blerghhg Swift: Perfect, here are the keys

10 years ago | Likes 97 Dislikes 2

This is more true than they'd want to admit, from my experience. But hell, even sober, a lot of drivers are terrible.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Truckers gonna truck.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

...truck truck truck

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That telephone pole one though, how? science?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Most likely: turned right onto a road not rated for a truck, or drug the wheels into the ditch. Tips the rig.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Former driver... Swift is a company that trains internally... Bad drivers train new bad drivers

10 years ago | Likes 83 Dislikes 1

We joke at work about swift..: Sure Wish I Finished Training

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Those who can, drive. Those who can't, train drivers. Hm, something might be problematic here, can't put my finger on it...

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

You're being generous with calling them drivers. I call them steering wheel holders. They hate it when I do that.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Wow, does Swift hire people who can't get other driving jobs or something?

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Do they not have to have a HGV licence before they start?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mind you, drivers in UK need a HGV licence, & having worked for a courier firm here myself, I have no idea how most of them passed!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Swift hires brand new people and trains them. Most trucking companies only hire people with experience

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Most smaller companies only hire people with experience. The larger mega fleets are not usually that picky.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

are these just severely cherry-picked pictures, or are swift drivers notoriously bad?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What do you get when two Swift drivers leave the truckstop? 5 parking spaces.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes to both. Swift's an easy target, because they have a lot of accidents. Truck drivers get bored, so photographs of the big accidents 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Aren't uncommon. Lots of trucking websites like to post them. Swift's a big company, so lots of trucks to have accidents with

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

how do they even get insured at this point?!??

10 years ago | Likes 136 Dislikes 0

I thought these had to be insurance company pictures

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A lot of these are on media. The one of the container stuck on a jersey barrier under an overpass? That's a media photo.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Every major trucking company will have had this many problems. Big trucks are NOT easy to drive. Most large companies self insure.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 0

They carry their own insurance, like most large carriers.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a pretty big company... Most likely self insured.

10 years ago | Likes 50 Dislikes 0

I learned something new today, thank you

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

this is correct. Self insured. There really are not any insurance companies that can afford to insure large trucking operations.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

what is self insured

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I also want to know

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Companies can apply to be self insured with federal motor carrier administrat. If they can provide the have $1mil cash for any deductables.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Couldn't be just one driver. Swift would never deprive only one village of their idiot.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Florida Man?

10 years ago | Likes 154 Dislikes 2

Probably not. There are some really good drivers in FL. Flat land states don't make good hill/city drivers

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 9

Batman has 'Batmobile'. Wonderwoman has 'Invisible Jet'. Florida Man has '18 Wheels of Insurance Liability'.

Worked on a Costco loading dock for years, second from the bottom is one of the depot drivers attempting to pull into my old store! So good.

10 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

We had a few SWIFT failures when I worked at Best Buy. They knock half our wall down at one point & backed into the gate as it was opening.

"The problem is that they're one of the largest trucker employers so they have a higher percentage of fucking idiots"-My trucker mom

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

20,000 trucks means even if they have the same number of accidents as other big carriers, you'll still see them more frequently.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is true, while other companies have issues and accidents as well the insane amount of Swift drivers that have incidents is staggering.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I sent my mom this, she sent me 3 images of Swift truck drivers fucking up on the road that she took over the past couple of weeks alone

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I really wish I had taken more pictures of Swift trucks on their sides in Wyoming on I-70. 50MPH gusts + 53' x 13.5' wall = truck naps

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Lol truck naps

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I miss Long Haul trucking, but my back is more important. I wish your Mom fair skies and clear roads.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How? Or, rather, how drunk out their skulls were the drivers?

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Nice thread!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

How much of this might be caused by fatigue do you reckon? Truckers do big hours sometimes...

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 2

some of the bigger ones probably have fatigue as a part. The hopped rock/in the ditch ones are usually inexperience.

10 years ago | Likes 0 Dislikes 0

SWIFT is kinda notorious as the worst of the worst for long-haul companies when it comes to training (and everything else, honestly).

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 1

Yep. Bf dad is a frito lay driver - they have him on a tight schedule on the road.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Does he think the industry/culture is changing for the better, in terms of reducing the risk of driver fatigue?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes tech has changed in last decade. They now have a comp program which forces him to stop when he drives a certain amount.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Fleet drivers only

10 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 2

I want to complain about your proper grammar here, but I will choose my battles for where they are needed.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

As an amateur grammar nazi, I'm want to know what I did wrong and I'm genuinely distressed about it. Please explain.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You didn't do anything wrong, just the original post was "no its becky" (which is wrong).

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh, good. You had me worried. I'm the kind of person who would have to put a "[sic]" if I didn't correct the grammar.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Now I'm stressed about how to refer to sic in a sentence.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That last one... "This is my life now"- Swift truck, possibly.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yep and England, and a few others probably as well.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

I worker for england. Bunch of aholes who wont let you stop even if theres a literal blizzard going on. Covenant was nice though.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I always wondered. I live in Wyoming just off I-80. Literally right where the huge scary pile up was up on top of the mountain.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

There's an underpass near my university, and without fail, at least once every couple weeks, a truck will get itself stuck in there.

10 years ago | Likes 49 Dislikes 5

Makes sense when you stop and think about it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I mean if we're going on raw amount, if you are largest you are likely to have the most...now if we talk proportion...

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

As a Swift employee, I can attest their accident percentage is higher than the industry average.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

They actually came out and said the high number of accidents is a detriment to their growth. Higher than industry average.

10 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Citation needed.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

*experienced drivers and the lawsuits brought by a few larger crashes. Said training will be more thorough in the future.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It doesn't say it in there but I remember reading about it around the time they got a huge lawsuit. The CEO said it was lack of qualified

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Neither of those stated that Swift has a higher accident rate than the industry average.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well I retract that statement. I remember reading it but don't feel like digging for sources.
