Fake Northern Lights

Maybe it was a bad idea to lick a couple thousand year old glacier, think I caught a cold from it

Black Beach

(That rock kinda looks like a penis)

I'm sorry for the selfie!!!

Northern lights in Iceland.

One of my favourite pictures I've ever taken

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hmm.... Lots of cool pictures. Lots of girls with just enough guys sprinkled in to throw suspicion

9 years ago | Likes 99 Dislikes 1

When you lick a glacier, you lick every person that glacier has ever been with...

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Serious: when you lick a glacier, you lick every single layer that has melted off before. OTOH, if you dig even just half an inch, it's safe

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Please take my tinder pictures... I need all the help I can get

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

You can get great entry level dslrs for cheap and lightroom bundled with photoshop is £8 a month

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Do you have any recommendations? I would like to get into street photography, but I want to start with a more multipurpose dslr first

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Any dslr body will do for street, I do a lot of street myself my only recommendation is a 50mm lens as it's non intrusive

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

@OP Fuck me these are some good photographs! make sure you take advantage of Scotland's free uni and I like Irn-bru still made an appearance

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

You even made the rocks appealing.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The Whole fotball world was talking about iceland in june and july. Your celebration was mad...... The volcano or as we call it vulkanen.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So Scottish schools have "field trips" to Iceland? The only places we ever went were the local zoo and the planetarium. Cheated, I say!

9 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

I'm from Ireland and we went to France, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany on school trips.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We went as far as central London (40 mins by train). Wa-hey for my school?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Germany calling in, we went to London, France, Austria and Spain.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I went to Manhattan once; then again, I live in NYC

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Did cost me 800 pound

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

My school had a trip to Prague for just 500 euros. Everything included( 5 nights). Why was yours so expensive.? (Im from Romania ,btw)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Iceland currency is really bad making things there cost a fuck tonne

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What was included? How long did you stay?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stayed 5 nights all included, breakfast lunch and dinner. Travel was included too. Stayed in a viking village in the capitol

Good day to you too, my Australian friend.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thank you, ive still got a lot to learn though

9 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 2

Hi, I'm in iceland atm. Look at Tatra tours. They have a mobile hotel and a pro photographer to teach. Take us to secluded areas too

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

You've got all the essentials down and clear talent. Once you get more caught up on the technical/equipment aspect you'll be a name to know.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I wonder what kind of equipment did you use? And by wich time of the year were you in Iceland?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I think you are especially good at taking people's pictures! A lot of them were really great.

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thanks so much

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I really like how he takes advantage of the lighting.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I so agree!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Only advice I could give is don't be scared of your headroom

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Too much headroom or too little?

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Maybe give a little less. Unless you want to make this kinda your style. Either way they look great

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

These are cool and I hope more imgurians can live vicariously though you guys.

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Doesnt vicariously mean experiencing something indirectly

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Yes, most people understand it to mean, "You go do things, then come back and tell me about it."

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

I am imagining myself there through OP's photos. Please find me another word if vicariously doesn't fit.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Oh vicariously fits, I was giving a plain-text example of it.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thanks. It just sounded like you and the fella you replied to were saying I used it wrong. All is well then.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so he wants us to take more pcitures

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I think he wants more people to put up decent quality image dumps like this one so others can enjoy other countries...

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I mean, I could go through the pictures I took while I was in Japan for a couple years.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Love Iceland! Reykjavik is nice, but Sólheimajökull, Gullfoss, the black sand beach in Vik, and more places have my heart!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

I personally love gulfoss, but it was 4 above freezing and torrential rain it avtually made it better

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Your shots of Gullfoss were awesome. I went in February and it was all snow and you couldn't see much water. The side trail down was closed.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We were there in February. Cold but warmer than Vermont is that time of year. Need to get back there in the summer to do the full Ring Road!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was 10 degress warmer than scotland the entire time we were there but Reykjavik is a really nice city

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Wait you kids are from Scotland? You look far too healthy and cheerful.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Whats the stereotype about scotland? Are we all fat misrable wankers? Haha

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just went to Iceland in may and I'm also from Vermont lol. High five!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Virtual high five. Ridiculous username too. That's my wife's favorite part of the movie...lol!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha the bulge is so majestic. Where in VT do yous guys hail from? We are ripping up Jay Peak this morning!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My school field trips consisted of a 2 hour bus ride to the caves that I've been to many times before. Yours is much better

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Kentucky?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Caves are badass though

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

What kind of camera did you use for these photographs OP? Curious because I'm in the market for a camera

9 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

Me also @op

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5D mk2 full frame dslr and the lens was a 50mm 1.8

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In the market for a $2000+ camera?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If i wasnt a broke college student! Plus, I'm somewhat new with cameras so i better get something a little cheaper.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you just want it to get used to the whole SLR thing, then the low end Nikons and Canons will do just fine for that.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Pro photographer / teacher here. Shopping for a camera can be complicated, but if you know what kind of photography you're in to (1)

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

The decision can be easier. SLRs are great multi purpose, but pricy and heavy. Compact system is good for travel but not as versatile. (2)

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Bridge cameras are cheap and great for wildlife and everyday usage but limited outside of these. Once you know type you can think brands(3)

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

but at entry level Canon, Nikon, Sony etc are all pretty similar. Best bet is to go in to a shop, try one and see what you like.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Thank you my fine sir! My room mate is a photographer so i think she'll help me out with picking one when the time comes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then once you're in the shop, forget all that heavy DSLR nonsense and just buy the best Fuji you can afford. :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I picked the 1100D but I got heavy ultra sonic lenses. I can't carry it anymore (rheumatics) so I think of shifting to 50mm f/1.8 as 1/?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

5D mk2 full frame dslr and the lens was a 50mm 1.8

9 years ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

I have the same ff lens combo but in Nikon. Love the bokeh it produces.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

even at 2.8 its still smooth

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man, what kind of touch up do u do? The colors are effing crisp!

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Who supplied the camera and lens?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My wallet hahaha

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just asking; if it was the school I went to, it would disappear. Very nice work by the way. Post some more soon on your next adventure.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

noice

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dammit, I've got exactly the same camera (although my lens is 50mm 1.4), you're ways better than I am... and I can't even blame the camera.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

He might have a higher quality lens. That makes a massive difference.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The lens he listed is lower "quality" than the commenter's lens, technically.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yep. That's why I'm sad ;-)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Just keep practicing mate, I'm mostly using 5d3 with a 50/1.2 for event work and it just takes time. You'll get better!! :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We always think someone else is better. Just practice, you're fine! :D

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Is everyone in your class beautiful ?

9 years ago | Likes 232 Dislikes 5

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 26

I was thinking the same, then I just realised they're all young.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A lot of yellow teeth there, I'm a smoker and mine aren't that yellow. Noticed a few intentionally hide their gibbers. Just an observation

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Pro tip to smokers, use you're lips to cover your teeth when you inhale, it helps.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah! there must be some ugly fuckin kid. There always is.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

I will not comment

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Wait a second! Sherlock Holmes already solved this one. The killer was at the wedding, but appears in no photos...

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Yes, based upon this statistically insignificant sampling I conclude that the girls of Glasgow are beautiful. At least those in school.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Those are children, for God's sake..

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 23

Have you never had an adult say that someone's kid is growing up to be so pretty/handsome? Or did that never happen to you growing up then?

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

You can say younger people are good looking. Doesn't mean you wanna fuck them

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Ikr? In comparison, we were so average that no one in my hs class was protesting when I titled the group pic "Planet of the Apes" for the

9 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

OP hasn't replied. Is it safe to assume he does? :P

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I am not sure... it's fine though, downvote if you wouldn't mind.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because we were all thinking it too.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Glad to know I wasn't the only one to brainfart the first time I looked at the photos.

So your pictures have really helped convince my fiance who is into photography that Iceland should be where we have our honeymoon.

9 years ago | Likes 1956 Dislikes 7

May I also suggest Lofoten Islands in Norway for a cheaper (NOT CHEAP, BUT CHEAPER) alternative. We've seen great Northern Lights there

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know a couple who did that and loved it! They did camping instead of hotels and saved a tonn of money :)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Getting married too and Iceland is in the top 5 destinations

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can I come

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I spent 24 hours in Iceland a few months ago. I only saw a tiny part of the country, but what I saw was gorgeous. I want to go back.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Go mid September. weather is still nice & you can see the Aurora. register with Friends of Iceland down town for discount to the Blue lagoon

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

DO IT, its my home country.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Iceland is definitely on me and my wife's short list, both as hikers and as a photographer.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Iceland is beautiful. Spent 6 days and can't wait to go back!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We just got back from our honeymoon in Iceland. Do it. It's an amazing place with raw beauty and ethereal landscapes.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did my honeymoon in Iceland and Norway. Can recommend!

Derek??

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I went in late August and it was glorious. Enough sunlight to do stuff and warm enough to climb in shorts/t-shirt some days. 5/7 would do.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Let us know how Iceland is when you get there/back ! (The decision was already made for you, embrace it)

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a newlywed who went to Iceland for honeymoon this year: do it. Plan excursions tho. We were bored because we hadn't. Awesome time still.

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Lovely country, don't use tour companies and just hire a car for you sight seeing, our northern lights viewing they put up by a lighthouse

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Do it! I've traveled to many countries and Iceland is my favorite so far. It's breathtakingly beautiful.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You should honeymoon there. I was there for two weeks. No regrets.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

a few hours ago I did read that the people on Iceland are not happy about the tourists... :P

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We're more unhappy about the tons of new hotels being built, mainly in Reykjavík but most of us are happy about tourists in general

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I'm in Iceland atm, check out Tatra tours. They have a mobile hotel that takes you away from tourists and gets you great spots

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Saving for later. We're planning Iceland for our honeymoon as well.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I can honestly say it is a photographers dream. The only problem are the crowds. Get to places early and go off season.

9 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 1

Totally agree. I couldn't stop snapping pictures. It's such an amazing country with amazing people

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yeah I had to climb a mountain to get a picture of Seljalandsfoss without people

9 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

The problem is that there pretty much is no "off season" anymore. Summer works photography-wise since it's never really dark.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is amazing but be warned the sun doesn't rise till half 9 in the winter (20th-30th of November)

9 years ago | Likes 477 Dislikes 2

Did you take them on an iPhone 7

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 8

No?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

oh hoho no, it doesn't rise till 1030-11, sets around 4.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but it makes for amazing long sunsets and sunrises. We took epic pictures with the sun looming over the horizon.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This sounds like the opposite of a problem. You get to sleep in :3

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's not a downside. More time to have a chance for aurora photos.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's been cloudy all week with aurora activity around 0-2KP

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've been interested in doing a trip north to try to photograph the lights for a while, but this is the worry. Lot of money if it's cloudy.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's very unpredictable (the weather) but if you have a car and staying for a week, usually you could find a clear sky in some part of ICE

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

makes it easier to wake up for the sunrise

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I pissed on that 1000 year old glacier

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

What country are you from?

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

I'm assuming the UK, since Glasgow is in Scotland

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Scotland then.

It's now the 3rd of December and the sun still wasn't up when I went to work this morning at 10:30.

9 years ago | Likes 179 Dislikes 0

Does that mean you can just get up early to see the northern lights instead of staying up all night?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

With that username, you HAVE to be Icelandic.

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Nah, just living there :)

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That's good enough :-) From now on I'm going to call you Magnus Magnusson.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How I'd love to start work at 10:30...

9 years ago | Likes 80 Dislikes 0

Half nine is a shortened version of "half past nine", so it's 9:30

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 1

No half nine means halfway till nine

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

No half nine means halfway till nine

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 9

Here's one link that says otherwise and I've only heard it used the way I said http://www.antimoon.com/forum/t14406.htm

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, maybe in youur country, but in mine it means half past nine so you are halfway through the ninth hour

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Im pretty sure its 8.30. In danish we say "halv 9"(half 9) when its 8.30. And icelandic is also a north germanic language.

9 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 6

We do the same thing in Serbian. e.g "half to 9" or "half 9"

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Same here in the Netherlands. Drives my English friends nuts.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah same. In my head it makes sense: "its 50% 9'o'clock > oh its 8:30!" haha

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

nah it's 9:30 (short for half past nine)

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Both right, half nine (hálf níu) in Icelandic is 8:30 but the sun is rising at 9:30 (hálf tíu)

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Half nine is a shortened version of "half past nine", so actually it's 9:30
