Setting a hard limit of 60fps will help keep it smooth, you're likely noticing due to high frames to low frames

My 970 runs it flawlessly, maybe you have other issues? I had a bad PSU at one point causing weird issues like frame rate problems.

Setting a hard limit of 60fps will help keep it smooth, you're likely noticing due to high frames to low frames
