The equality bill didn't pass, and it was a campaign promise from Biden. And I think we all notice that homophobia is a unifying feature of the right, and not all eradicated on the left. So with hate crimes ongoing towards the queer community. I think we're being optimistic (verging on ignorant) to not assume that any marginalized aspect of a candidate will become unifying fodder for the right, who spent more dollars than there *are* trans ppl on the "Kamala is for they/them" ad.
We are all feeling this way, and I believe it's how he could win. But let's remember his ex wife. Could she be the grifter? Could he be the grifter of the grifter? Idk, but it raises my hackles.
My read is that due to his sexuality and how polarizing performance for Hillary and Kamala has been, that Ds are concerned. That said, you're profoundly correct that he's a brilliant speaker and an adequate debater. He's also a polyglot, and in terms of the US's global position, I think that's a great sign. However, he has so far been a mayor and a secretary of transportation, so not incredible resume. I'd love to see how he did as secretary of state or as a senator first.

Lisa is funny because she somehow fails to be a useful foil for either party by voting for key legislation for each ... As though they're equal merit. Being pro equality bill (I think?) and pro whatever Trump's bill was is so value congruent *everyone should see it.*
I disagree that Ds get candidates. Remember, the reason voters skewed towards Joe Biden and not Hakeem Jefferies or Kamala Harris or Pete in the 2020 election cycle is because of *older Democrats* needing to feel safe. And remember that there was no presidential primary for the democratic nomination during 2024. I like to think that the Democrats are more Democratic, but recent history has really not validated that belief.
I disagree with you that I'm reading too much into it, but agree that maybe I am. It was clear Kamala was the sleeper candidate under Joe and Gavin was clearly circulated in the same conversations once they (the DNC) lit up Joe's chances. I really think this is a matter of name recognition, and the US likes executive branch experience in the position. It isn't a take I enjoy having, but I'll bet a unifying white man who speaks to the needs of the poor is the thing that's going to unite.
I don't disagree with any of the takes here. My point was, is it our *bet* for what *they* think we want. I also recognize that a random Wisconsiner as well as a motivated leftist will need to find common ground in the candidate. We're a long, long, way off from the next cycle.
