Seconded. Of course there are some jokes you won't get if you don't know the characters (especially in the later books), but anything important is always explained enough for new readers to understand.

Unfortunately, some people also lie about that for their own personal gain (narcissists etc.), so if you default to believing them, it means you might end up believing a liar. But erring on the side of believing everyone is still probably the better option.

Just out of curiosity: did your family have a pet, like a dog or a cat? It could have been them licking your face, and your mind then filling in the hooded man...
They do have acoustics too, both steel and nylon string, and lots of other instruments too . Not sure about borrowing amps home, but several libraries here have well-equipped music rooms where you can play.
Congrats! Singing in a choir is fun, no matter what your level is.
Whaat? I live in Finland, have been driving for over 20 winters and I have never heard anything like this mentioned.
Well, it's important to actually research and verify "obvious" things. That way they can be used as facts in further research and policy.
