Oh, nah, they just catch up whenever they feel like it, or when contractually obliged. Standard processes for textbook updates apply I'd assume.

I mean, there’s no reason the US government can’t officially start referring to it by a new name. Doesn’t mean anyone else has to. It probably needs more than an executive order though. And yes, this is also just creating diplomatic chaos as a distraction from the real issues.

This is great but down voting because no “politics” tag

Congrats. Only way you can make a dent is to cut off the propaganda. Unfortunately I don’t think there’s anything I can do for my family - their entire identities are based around consuming low quality information. Understanding that two decades ago would have saved me a lot of pain.

Bush Jr for the US and Cameron for the UK were the last times there were Conservative leaders who had plausibly deniability for not being completely off the deep end. If it’s not possible for someone to recognise that then… at best we’re not living in the same reality and so it’s best we keep a distance.

Jesus Christ. That's some serious cyberpunk dystopia shit.

My experience is that it’s impossible to challenge things. Bullshit asymmetry principle says it’s ten times easier to spout misinformation than to debunk it and, even if you manage to make a dent, without removing them from the source of disinformation they’ll just find the next thing. Which is hard when a lot of people go out of their way to seek disinformation to give themselves a sense of control.

After years of hard work I _finally_ start to get close to a senior level in a tech job. Choices as a single person: continue living with flat mates which destroys my mental health, or rent my own flat and not be able to afford to save for a mortgage deposit within a decade. All this work and a prestige job and I _still_ have to choose between a small space of my own and my financial future. This shit is utterly fucked.

Would have been ok if I was about to escape, but as I’m kind of relying on them for support right now it took… some work to deal with. They just live in a completely different world and have no idea how to vet information.

“I learned how to do actual research”. I feel this. Last “discussion” I had involved my mother coming up with a source which she’s become emotionally entangled with, me pointing out another source which is slightly more nuanced but complete tears hers apart by showing how the original cherry picks quotes and such, and then her basically going “I don’t understand this so I’m going to ignore it”. >cont

Can confirm, back semi living with my parents again for at least a year. That shit can get reeeal close to causing issues when I can’t put so much physical space between us.

I think you want “Spacestation Silicon Valley”. Bit of a warning though, when I tried to get it working with emulators there was nothing that supported it. That was a decade ago now so maybe someone’s found a way.

I’m glad that didn’t take the obvious dark turn.

I like working with JS. But then I also like working with Groovy. And C++ template programming.

I make good money, but I’m currently _LUCKY_ to be living with my parents about a hundred miles from any of my friends because it’s the only way I’ll ever be able to save up a mortgage deposit. The isolation is awful. I’m only able to do this because of a series of unlikely events meaning there’s enough space and I can work remotely. I often wonder if I’m the last generation that has any chance of getting on the property ladder without straight out inheriting a house. And I’m LUCKY.

I’ve got one of the few remaining decent paying jobs, and I’m going to spend be the next three years saving hard while living with my parents in the middle of nowhere in the hope of affording a mortgage deposit on a one bed flat somewhere. I feel like I’m in the last generation to be able to afford property without a massive cash sum from family, even if you count all those advantages.

In theory the older property owning generation age out of voting and then suddenly we have more political will to fix things. Maybe. But as a millennial who started out with New Labour and then… fifteen years of Tories? Ending with a continuing deconstruction of the right to protest in the UK? Things “getting better” on the national level is an alien concept and while the government will prop up the status quo as long as possible I find it hard to not expect things to hit food riots eventually.

Funny how costs going up is “market forces at work” but wages going up is bad and the precursor to a “wage price spiral”
