Flies don't see like us, they have compound eyes. Compound eyes are good at seeing lateral motion but not good at seeing depth motion. If you imagine looking at the world through a very grainy computer monitor, you would only notice something when it moved from one pixel to the next. The spider moves directly towards the fly, slowly, so the fly doesn't see anything.

He abused his position of power to gratify himself sexually at the expense of other people's wellbeing. That is literally the definition of a sexual abuser. Imagine you've worked so *so* hard to build up your career and then someone higher up the chain gets naked and masturbates in front of you, blocks your way out of the room, and you know you can say *nothing* about it without damaging or losing your career. Why on earth you feel the need to downplay the seriousness of that I can't fathom.

Yes, the unfortunate fact is that becoming wealthy/powerful actually exacerbates narcissism. Narcissism is formed when our caregivers care more about our external image than our internal reality. Becoming wealthy/powerful makes it much more likely that those around us care about our external image (wealth/power) than our internal self. So narcissism both makes it more likely that we will seek out external "success", and is made worse by achieving that goal!

If you feel like your imperfect self isn't good enough, that's the problem right there. Who told you you have to grow, be better? That's a value, that's an opinion, that's society fucking you up. If it makes you feel bad, you don't have to accept that value. Fuck the growth mindset, fuck being better. We are deeply compromised, because we are products of a deeply compromised universe. Just try to enjoy being a fucked up bald monkey as best you can and grow at whatever pace you choose.

Cis and Trans are Latin prefixes meaning "on this side" / "on the other side" that have been in use in a wide variety of contexts for thousands of years. Taking offence to either is a good indicator that someone is not arguing in good faith.

Bowie flirted with Fascism in '76 while deep in addiction, by '77 he was clean and owned up and said that the accusations against him were rightly levelled but that he was embarrassed by and disavowed his actions. Without excusing the first, I personally believe in recovery.

Doing small kindnesses for your kids is different from letting them do whatever they want. Showing them that kindness is in the world and *also* teaching them to be respectful of others is the way.

Kids are allowed to have their own preferences. Forcing them to accept what you think they should accept is a good way to raise an adult who can't interpret and meet their own needs, and who is thus unhappy. Listen to your kids, they are real people.

If the software industry is unable to achieve a basic level of reliable functionality for all releases as a baseline, then the release process *should* be slowed down by regulation. Testing and QC are consistently under-resourced because the software industry is allowed to pass the cost of failure on to their customers (as used to be the case with bridges). As a software developer myself, bring on the regulation.

People aren't afraid to build bridges because of engineering regulations, they just make sure to build bridges that stay up.

I hope Diogenes is looking down from somewhere appreciating that his burn was so good, people are still repeating it 2000 years later. And I hope that Plato is standing next to him facepalming.
