Turns out you can just squeeze the orphans by hand and you don’t need to pay the monthly subscription

I needed a new US passport for a trip (old one was expired and lost) - But money does get things done - there are couriers who you send docs to, and they walk them through the bureaucracy (I’m sure they have shortcuts) and it cost several hundred dollars - but I got it in 3 days and never had to deal with an actual human.

I feel like Shame is more of a symptom - an artifact of as previous trauma. That’s not at all to say that it doesn’t metastasize alongside other conditions- and may need its own treatment. It was helpful for me to understand that there was something deeper going on, then the shame kind of just fell apart. (Again, this is my perspective and experience)

Yea, I seriously can’t think of a single teacher where that was a question or at all interesting. When the bell rang, teachers pretty much ceased to exist. (Except for Mrs Tischels ankles which had their own existence and yearbook page!)

I only ever use the app on iOS (and it blows goats for many reasons) - if I used desktop I’d probably use Firefox or Safari with separate profiles (I think that’s a thing)

What radicalized me was about 15 years ago seeing “xyz liked cringy thing, you might too” when I hadn’t had any interaction with xyz in the 10 years before that, followed by the thought “does xyz see ‘sleestacks likes cringy thing that maybe should be kept private’?”

And 7 years earlier Family Ties turn Regan republican Alex P Keaton into a monstrous raving speed freak! (He was so hooked, he overslept and missed a test!). Who will be next???

What color for “I’d like to pet the cat, alone”?

But is it worth Facebook knowing every site you visit (same with twitter, etc). If you’re logged in, those little share icons are associated with your account. Send a link to someone, you’ve created an implicit relationship that may not show up in your “friends” page, but is tracked. (But maybe it is worth it - I personally find it creepy and that data is *forever*)

I get weepy when an internet convo resolves like that. Thank you!

From orbit, one simple take is that Biden was working for the people of the US - and Trump was only ever working for himself.

I'm going along with the GP here. It isn't wrong for there to be regulations against all manner of things we might consider harmless - and to be sure, there are regulations that are abused or used to assault minority groups (loitering) and I don't know why the 50' thing is in place - but like those stickers that say "point nail gun away from face” many of them came about out of unfortunate unforeseen circumstances. If you want to host a wildlife sanctuary, why not get the permits beforehand?

“And so he built the Total Perspective Vortex—just to show her. [ trimmed to fit ] so that when he turned it on she saw in one instant the whole infinity of creation and herself in relation to it.
To Trin Tragula's horror, the shock completely annihilated her brain; but to his satisfaction he realized that he had proved conclusively that if life is going to exist in a Universe of this size, then the one thing it cannot afford to have is a sense of proportion.”

Have we ever considered that maybe he’s happier there? Alternatively, maybe we should just move to where he is for a change. Even just a visit for a weekend; we could bring him muffins.

I actually don’t have one - but I’m at the point of “I can probably get rid of these cat-5 patch cords with broken tangs that I’m sure I’ll have a use for soon.” I also have several bags of “not that usb cable” that will need a new owner.
