Fair point. It’s really never good to change something on the user without an explanation.
It’s waaaay better than it used to be, but Google Maps is probably always going to be a bit better.

I’m sure if you go Pixel 2 + a stock android tablet you’d save a bit of $$ and get pretty close. Go cheaper and things will just get worse.

You’re missing the point. Apple is rarely first; they wait until they can make the feature great for the user, not just tech for techs sake
I’m thinking it will be faster in most common use cases and that’s why Apple went all in. Not 100% sold but optimistic, can’t wait to try it
Fair enough on the GPS, but finger/face data is only on your device, hidden in a special enclave in the processor.
But face recognition that isn’t easily fooled by a photo of you? Not yet.
On other phones, generally yes. The new tech for this phone isn’t fooled by photos or even professionally made masks.
Not beyond what shows up on Google, FB, YouTube, etc. I've never been served an ad from within iOS itself except for App Store listings.
There's no business incentive for Apple to use people's data nefariously, unlike every other tech company that thrives on ad sales.
