maille protects almost completely from slashing cuts. piercing will go straight through butted (like this coif), riveted a bit less.

Many people give Gerber crap, but this was a good first knife. I have many knives I prefer over it but it has a special place in my heart.
I should have mentioned that it's also the knife I learnt to sharpen with... with rocks. Literally rocks i'd find outside.

This is incorrect. Rust doesn't have anything to do with tetanus, and you can't get it orally, it's a bacteria that lives in soil.
