@ArdentSlacker has it, but I'll elaborate a bit more. Some stories in mythology have Zagreus as the same as Dionysus as the same person. Some say the son of Hades. Some even say he is Hades. In game, the prank they play on Orpheus results in him writing a song with so many conflicting facts that it tells a story that makes absolutely no sense. It's a clever way of explaining away the bizarreness of the mythology.
For the hilarious liberties the game took, it still stayed incredibly close to the mythology of its characters. The way they handled the conflicting stories of Zagreus... *chef's kiss*
