I had to put my cat to sleep today... I feel your loss.
I've done it a few times without any problems. Problems only start to emerge when it's REALLY cold out. Rapid expansion is bad for glass.
The auto shop should inspect the brake fluid during a routine oil change, but generally every 2 years.
I'm sure you're right. I don't think glycol does the same thing to rubber as oil.
and pray that it didn't damage the system at all as an entire brake assembly replacement could cost upwards of $2000 minimum.

Wheel falls off, wheel goes flat, scratches window, overheats engine, brake failure (very costly), windshield shatters, rust, electrocution.
