also, having (long) hair is considered beautiful for many people... cutting it back means therefore making yourself less beauty
there is a chance that there will be a job offer that you can't accept, because you have the wrong hair/beard. Hair dosn't grow that fast.
It's kind of a big deal for actors/actresses, since it affects future jobs. So this is a big commitment.
