It's going to get a lot worse, Hollywood's entire slate for the next decade is CGI heavy crapfests, but they've killed off a lot of VFX co's
SPH isn't really used much in CG these days, this looks more like a FLIP sim on a REALLY low res grid.
I haven't seen 1-8, will I be able to follow the story?
AFAIK the effects work (fluids, explosions, destruction) was handled in Houdini, which makes this sort of thing pretty straightforward.
Pretty sure they just drove geometry instancing with the SDF of the FLIP sim (this was Houdini). Did the same thing with explosions.
FWIW, the suit order showed up today.
Really? You're asking that of the country that gave us Unabhaengigkeitserklaerungen ?
I placed an order with that site a week ago, expected ship date isn't until April (which was noted on the order, they're not being sneaky)
The law is that it's legal as long as it's done safely, which this wasn't.
It's not uncommon to be working on a movie with no third act in place 4 months before release. Can't do practical FX like that.
Mad Max was planned out well in advance, so was Titanic & Jurassic Park. Jurassic World was... not.
Depends, Richard Parker in Life Of Pi was far superior to an animatronic in what it could do, but it took 2 years to do.
Blame producers, nobody wants to make a fucking decision in the film industry, can't use practical fx if they're making it up as they go.
I saw it tonight ... there are now 4 Star Wars movies.
Ditto.
"Bigotries? Who calls a store Bigotries" "That'd be 'Big O Tires'" "Ah, yes, that makes a little more sense"
Big Boy + MIRV Mod.. Took me 3 tries to figure out the minimum safe distance... turns out it's Cleveland.
There was that one time where a tank got stuck in reverse in the parking lot and flattened a dozen cars... monkeys may have been involved.
If you love energy weapons, never leave a Microscope behind. (Medford Hospital has tons of them, Dogmeat was pissed)
Scrapper 1 gives screws & copper, Scrapper 2 gives interesting stuff, but only upgraded weapons, more mods = more stuff.
You mean South South Canada?
Dress for the crash, not the ride.
Gwendoline Christie is the chrome trooper, Capt. Phasma.
Because it was all done in 3d with real cameras, it wasn't some half assed post conversion like 90% of movies these days.
That's because 20 years ago, the studios were happy to pay for artists to do the damned job right.
Doing VFX properly costs a lot of time & money. That's part of why R&H went under and Ang Lee only complained about the cost.
Gotta love that the Life of Pi cinematography Oscar went to a guy who never set foot in the VFX facility that did most of the big shots.
Better to have it and not need it as they say ;)
