In the last 50 years, actual individual votes for president were usually both close to 50%. Picking the lesser of two evils has never been easy.
As opposed to Saddam refusing to allow the inspections he agreed to after we threw him out of Kuwait? The inspections that were intended to ensure that he DIDN'T have WMD? Those inspections that he halted?
At this point, I'd rather have him back at his worst versus the harm our current president is determined to cause.

Folks, the ERA (Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution, meant to establish the rights of women) was voted on in 1972 and still hasn't been passed. "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." And that was back when sex was considered binary. I'm not sure you guys get it. FEAR is what motivates red state voters. They are afraid that radical change will make things worse, that what little they own and earn will be taken from them. "Who's going to pay for that?" is their fear. Tell them you are cutting the military budget by 10% and give that $80 billion out as tax refunds rather than fund another program. It doesn't come out to much. But every new program (like the infrastructure repairs we desperately need) sounds like my rent money.

Capitalism depends on an ever-increasing number of sales. It's a pyramid scheme. When they run out of consumers the system fails. I'm not some psycho here - the system genuinely depends on unlimited growth.

Otoh I've been eating homemade raw cookie dough and drinking eggnog for decades. American eggs and chicken are a substantial risk. Cookie dough packages still say don't eat this raw and I do. But I won't eat things that have been sitting out (not hot, not refrigerated), lol.
most of the states ranked 50th in the country for something-or-other are southern states. the agricultural economy was failing everywhere (that's why british aristocrats in the 1890s were starting to go broke) and clinging to the crime of slavery was barely keeping their economy going. 150 years later their economies are still shit. Trump claimed everything would be "better" under him (with no actual plans), and fearmongers convinced desperate red-staters that libs would make things worse.

You're not wrong. But I kind of expect it. Labor is the largest expense on any project in the USA. Idk if that's been the case all throughout time. But cutting those costs has always been top priority. Companies invested 100s of thousands of $ to automate because it quickly paid for itself. Idk if the "productivity" claims about pay not going up the way profits have ignores the fact that there is a computer on every desk to increase productivity. I guess I'm demoralized, sorry.
