Eh, I'm in a captured media country as well but at the end of the day people do vote for these parties and people despite track records. At some point the wilful ignorance has to be laid at the feet of the willfully ignorant.

This is the SECOND term.

UK still venerates thatcher, US still venerates reagan, Aus still venerates howard. Even decades after the fact people are incapable of basic observation let alone policy analysis

Yeah, but this is Americans we're talking about. Them figuring out decent healthcare and education access is just not happening let alone getting workers rights and protections and welfare to maintain a safety net of minimum standards. Line goes up so all's good to vast majority of Americans. Can't say I've ever seen the majority of Americans ever stand for 'all men are created equal'

I mean, yes it's a shithole country and many fight to keep it with developing world levels of poverty and stupidity but I dunno I'm dumb enough to still have hope for junta countries like russia and usa

But do you think song 2 is blurs best?

Yup and a little bit of massaging wins elections for outright bad candidates. I'm in Aus and trying to find anything without a touch of Murdoch is impossible pretty much any journalist is either on payroll or wants to be on Murdoch payroll at some point so, kingmaker it is.

World model building for physical models aka crap that robots need to run is coming along nicely. Stuff like fusion modelling is coming along nicely with AI set to make an impact.

There's a lot of negatives for sure but we've thrown more money and more resources at dumber stuff than AI and we'll need to remodel how society and welfare works if we actually get AGI/ASI so it being a distant target is kind of comforting for now but who knows when this stuff makes the leap to being useful.

Good landlords exist, sure they're the minority that run as a charity or social housing and not as a for profit venture though. Sweetheart deals are hard to find and most landlords will see tenants as entirely disposable though.

Same, am decidedly average whenever I apply myself to anything academic but fuck me the bar is so low I get people complimenting me all the time just for being able to grasp concepts and having an interest in science and tech. The average adult is so beaten down and battened down; having even a spark of interest left is considered remarkable when it should be the everyday and everyone kind of thing.

I mean, I'm in a country (Australia) that has been in per capita GDP recession for years yet because we pump the economy with more people total GDP goes up and therefore no recession on paper. 51.5% of Aus is either first generation migrants or the child of a migrant so yeah, we're not shy on importing people but there's been policy failure for decades on building infrastructure and housing with very little action as people want to profiteer from rising costs.

Definitely give them a free rude, fuckers. Free ride, not so much. But yeah they're using power and water on a scale they really should be building their own power plants just for grid stability.

I mean, we've had stable reactions go from seconds to minutes, in just the last few years. Does feel like I'll see hours and days in my lifetime which feels like from there it's going to expand into indefinite reactions. Stuff like turning mercury into gold with fast neutrinos is pretty baller too

Mmmhmm, agreed. Still gets my goat that higher density is considered so dirty by most, I WANT a walkable community and that means density to justify services; does my head in that you can be less than 30 mins from the CBD and the idea of an apartment block gets heaps of complaints. Really NEED better construction inspections and regulations so the argument that it's just dogboxes goes away but we're stuck on the neoliberal path of oooh, government bad! so very little gets done for quality.

Yup, immigration to an already overstretched supply is a big issue in my city (Sydney) but that there's an issue at all with supply is down to NIMBY rich assholes not wanting ANY new housing being built. Endless suburbia though so you can enjoy a 2 hour commute if you want though.

The belt and road stuff is mindblowingly large with stupid amounts of money thrown around. I could be wrong but maaaaybe they won't overthrow governments that lean slightly left. Debt trapping with infrastructure is a lot kinder than some of the shit Africans have seen from leadership there but damned if it don't still feel sinister.

Will admit I get my labels confused sometimes but yeah we live in times of abundance just willfully not distributed evenly. But yeah basically allow power and influence to congeal on a few people and things turn to shit fairly quickly whether that's state or private. Would love it if power wasn't so corrupting but well, history shows otherwise

Democratic socialism is not really socialism but hey, roads, education, healthcare, WAY more workers rights than USA and USA is well... yeah, USSR had a world leading military and not much else going for it. Definitely not AS bad but centralised economies whether that's billionaires or fascism with a bow are a mess too. Tl;dr capitalism sucks when it's a captured market pretending to be free.

It's a project that delays new generation for decades and costs far far more than renewables. Nuclear is just dumbass territory keeping coal and gas at the forefront for the most part now, hence conservatives love it now.

10 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yup costs an absolute fortune to update systems. Often cheaper to build from scratch rather than have that changeover and maintenance times

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Doubt. NZ is definitely better built out than Aus we should definitely be lower down the list.

Honestly some people just will never find a job they actually enjoy. There's more to life than work and that sucker ends up consuming most of the waking hours of a lot of people so no wonder they feel like shit.

I mean, it could be possible that there might be policies worth voting for. Not likely but possible.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don't think it encourages counter revolutionary wars just more of the status quo. But yeah we're going to see some rough times ahead with income inequality set to explode.

Nice, much better than pooping the question. Hope it's a wonderful life together for you both.

Best I can do is look at Newscorp and Ninefairfax and a stacked ABC and say yeah, he's as voracious in Aus as well.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

USA determines who you're allowed to elect and has directed policy and the neoliberal front. Worldwide things aren't looking great in a lot of places and corruption is a way of life for many even in decently rated countries

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

With AGI just around the corner and economies already straining to pay welfare as it is, things are going to get messy. I'm not independently wealthy so I'm sweating bullets given the possible what ifs

But is it gert by sea?
