Not a hunter, and wouldn't do it myself, but the money spent encourages local communities to conserve the animals rather than encroach.
Chiles and other peppers produce capsaicin to deter mammals from eating them. Birds do not have receptors for capsaicin.
Traffic has improved immensely with the roundabouts since they were put in. I remember the old intersections had 15 min waits at times.
