Character limits in social media have oversimplified our perspectives of others and has exacerbated the tribalism inherent to the internet age. This reduces perspectives down so that they can be lumped in with vocal extremists and allows us to declare someone unfit for serious discussion. Once no longer obligated to take them seriously, the social currency of the platform can be used to censor them near entirely. I just want to mention that I put up this profile message almost 4 years ago now and of all the people who have ever claimed to desire dialogue on major issues, zero have ever shown interest in having dialogue outside of comments. If I can ask anything of you all it would be to never assume 140 characters is enough to know what someone is thinking. Be good to each other and if you want to do more than butt heads with internet strangers, you should probably do it somewhere other than imgur. I've been here 9 years and trust me it's never been a good place for that.
