Maybe I should have explained myself better. You can do something good in that moment because it's the right thing to do. But you can also believe that if you make it a point to be a person who takes opportunities to do good things as much as you can, you'll be rewarded for it in some form, at some point. For people that believe in an afterlife, they may have the intention of doing good things in their life, because helping people is a way to be rewarded for it later on.
