Selfie is short for self PORTRAIT. A vertical layout is known as, wait for it, PORTRAIT orientation. Because it is most suited to portraits.
There is a pc version. Has some compatability issues with newer OS's but I eventually got it to run on Windows 7. KB controls only though.
The tape trick won't work on glass that's frosted on both sides.
