"It's how we've always done things, our grandparents were doing it."

Is not and should never be an excuse to ignore or downplay atrocities.

I've seen that enough in religion, and people need to stop forgetting it happens even in casual conversation.

Too many people seem to be just saying "You're gonna have to vote for newsom" and I'm seeing how many people are adamant against it even after everything that I KNOW it's gonna lose if it comes to that.

There are way too many people who are already dissilusioned with 'middle ground politics' and who genuinely feel that 'lesser of the two evils' is what got us here in the first place. Are you willing to risk everything on the 'We promise to capitulate to republicans in advance' candidate?

All it took was people voting. So why did she refuse to do something that would get people voting?

I'm seeing a lot of complaining that people didn't vote, but a lot of silence on 'why' they didn't vote and what could have been done to get that to happen?

Complaining without giving solutions is one, thing, but all these people complaining while actively supressing and denying discussion of the solution just makes me suspicious.

"I don't care about the 50+ percent of people who voted for trump and who are currently still voting for this all across the country, It's the people who didn't vote who are to blame!"

Like, who does that help? Either vote shaming works and you're doing it to the wrong people, or it doesn't work and you're just wasting your time or making it worse.

If she lost because people refused to vote for someone who embraces the Biden administration's stance on Gaza,

wouldn't that mean all it took to stop all of this was one person not embracing the Biden administration's stance on Gaza?

Religion, Tradition, Laws, Social expectations, “I was just following orders”

There is -NOTHING- religion brings to the table that doesn’t already and PREVALENTLY exist without it.

Including making ostensibly ‘good’ people do bad things.

3 weeks ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Then what about the modern ones?

Is Semitism responsible for the atrocities in Gaza, or is it a convenient shield used by people committing atrocities?

I don't blame anyone practicing Judaism for Netanyahu. Do you?

You're getting downvoted but this is true. There is nothing religion brings to the table that doesn't already and prevalently happen all around the world without it.

Like the people deciding this are literally in the Epstein files, but Yeah. Blame religion in general, I'm sure that simple worldview is 100% correct and tyrants invoking religion as justification not a known method of distraction and deflection of responsibility in the eyes of their supporters and critics.

It's weird, cause I don't see other Christian countries like the UK, or Italy, or even Russia using that as an excuse.

Just America

We had 2 world wars and nobody needed god's permission before. Why all of a sudden?

That's because I'm not claiming that MAGA is pushing it. I'm claiming that there are alt right people influencing Atheists from their particular point of view, like Richard Dawkins, Jordan Peterson. Christopher Hitchens.

Atheism still has a much lower rate of right wing conversion than Theism, but alt right is EVERYWHERE and these comments that blame all religions without empirical evidence and based on emotions and bias are textbook examples of those right wing dogwhistles in New Atheism

Okay, but you realize that youre not actually responding to “The right wing is giving you something to hate and youre accepting that with no self awareness. This is a known problem with New Atheism and why many Atheists distrust the movement”

You’re currently trying to defend the act of hating and the act of blaming an “Other”

Youre like the evangelical arguing mexicans are taking your jobs. Its the same mental framework adjusted to enforce your own biases.

This is true, but irrelevant. Im just telling people to be careful of a new alt right pipeline that uses religion in general as its designated scapegoat.

The alt right doesn’t believe in anything so if they can get you by pointing your hate at religion they absolutely will.

You can look it up. If you think “This guy is criticizing atheism in general, not a specific right wing brand calling itself new atheism” then look up what new atheism is, who made it prominent and what theyve been pushing onto the world.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

If you’re acting like every religion in the world is MAGA evangelicalism, then you haven’t wised up to anything. Youre just scapegoating in the exact same way the alt right pipeline does.

Mexicans arent the source of crime and inequality in the US, neither is religion. But you are using the exact same mental framework for your preferred acceptable target.

Imgur, you should know that this comment chain is a textbook example of the worldview of the New Atheist movement, which is a known part of the Alt Right pipeline. Atheists may criticize or dislike religions they’ve personally had issues with, but promoting open antagonism and hostility to ALL religions is a New Atheism thing.

Its all about blaming the world’s problems on a ‘believable’ ‘out group’ like trump with mexicans, or the klan with PoC

Dont fall for it.

I agree, but so many people idolize vengeance that they don't realize they're the ones trying to insist "Consequences for ones own actions" is vengeance.

Disco Elysium has fascist dialogue options that reduce your morale because it empties you out inside to create enemies out of your fellows that you're willing to hurt yourself long term to hurt in turn. A life of hate is not a happy life, nor is it one to be idolized or emulated.

Would you vote for the guy who refuses to hold anyone in Trump's orbit accountable, and gives the fascists 4 years to plan and dismantle everything at the local level that made obstacles to them getting power this time? Someone who telegraphs months ahead of the election that they're going to refuse to do anything to change the status quo?

How far in advance would you capitulate, and how far in advance would you like everyone else to telegraph to the leadership they're willing to capitulate?

My favorite aspect of this is that he prefaced by saying "It's okay to say no" A surprising amount of "Hey, girl with big boobs, you look cold" is either subtly or overtly demeaning, in the sense of "you clearly don't know any better" combined with "Cover yourself up, slut" vibes.

But this is straight up wholesome while acknowledging the agency of the girl to decide what her own outfit should be. And that just elevates it to throw wholesome and not backhanded wholesomeness

Case in point^ The right wing crashed into a door carrying the cross because they WANT it to become a symbol of hate.

Don't give them what they want, don't cede authority to them like this "Well i guess if they did it, that's what it now means. I don't make the rules, they do." Not only are you ceding authority to them, you're letting them adjust your own way of viewing the world FOR you.

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Put simply. The right wing wants authority over what everyone thinks 'christians' want. The same way trump has authority over what the world thinks 'americans' want.

You don't want greenland? You don't want to kidnap 5 year olds? You dont want to protect pedophile presidents? Too bad, the world says 'america' does so you're being lumped in and have to assume responsibility even if you're actively protesting and fighting against all that.

Same difference.

Literally hundreds of priests and religious leaders got arrested in minnesota today for coming together to protest ICE, but you're not seeing news of it here or on most social media sites.
The right wing WANTS people to cede authority over all christianity to them, and in a very real way, people are letting it happen by focusing more on blaming christianity and not the right wing itself. It HELPS them if you act like it's a unanimously christian thing.

Also, why use AI when real artists have already done the same thing but fucking better?

2 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

AI makes Electricity, Electronics, Cost of living, all of it Cost more.
It hurts people, it's pretty much exclusively used for fraud and sexual exploitation of real women and children's photographs.
It makes getting jobs, getting healthcare, getting anything harder to save megacorps a buck.
If you try to use and validate something so bad for society, i'm gonna judge you the same as I judge the people who put the orange turd in power.

2 months ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

I mean. It's AI art.

I'm so tired of people using AI art for anti right wing statements as if there isn't a wealth of real art that isn't making everything cost more, making jobs harder to find, increasing electricity prices, drinking up all our water, and validating mega corps trying to force AI down everyone's throats

I think anyone who doesn't care should sit in the corner with a thumb up their ass like they're doing right now. Anyone who thinks this is an unprovoked political attack needs to watch

2 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I just had a conversation with some dude who was saying no one cares about AI outside of reddit, I pointed at the universal society wide distaste for it and he argued that since everyone hates it, everyone's lying to avoid being singled out.

Then ended by saying that in reality being vehemently against AI is counterproductive and you have to be moderate and downplay + dismiss people's dislike of it for change to happen.

Glad to see people like Rob.
