I find Brooklyn Brewshop incredibly overpriced. I would search out a local homebrew shop or homebrew club if you're in an area that has one.

Same with soup. When finished, taste it. Dry hopping, blending, adding fruit are all ways of changing it.
It is much easier to give yourself food poisoning with soup though. I filled a barrel yesterday, beer can be doctored if you aren't happy.
As a brewer, if you can make soup, you can make beer. Not too difficult of stuff.
