humble duck farmer
Studies have actually shown that geese and swans boost other local bird populations as they tend to feel safe around them. Nature is pretty sweet.
They don't even try. Even with other predators like mink and foxes that would come by often, I found that adding almost a dozen geese to our flock brought our losses to predators down by 90%
My one goose roman became very attached to the ducks and especially ducklings for some reason. He helped raise many ducks and kept them safe (I usually free range my birds) Him and the other geese will alert whenever something they don't like is around.
Yeah I even had issues with them taking my smaller call ducks till I added geese to my flock. Cats are definitely easy pickings for them, I keep mine inside just to not chance it. My young male has an affinity for large tree climbing
Wild right? There is a good reason they are a part of the raptor family of birds. I work in a large pig barn, I have seen them take piglets from the manure pile and fly off with them into the field.
It's definitely a great shot. It's funny how many "hidden gems" are just out in the open in nature.
We get Mergansers in Canada as well. Truly beautiful waterfowl
"check out my surfboard"
Good thing the boat is covered, might find some eggs in it otherwise
I have seen some of the piglets slide dash into a jump afterwards, they can get pretty crazy
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way! On the bad days it's like boy I can't wait for bacon sandwiches after work. Or a couple glizzies
Standing on all fours they are much more of a threat for that. When they are up like that they won't do much but struggle to get down. You are very right though. Luckily we don't need to herd pigs very often. I can open the gates and his presence sitting outside is enough to keep them in
I did legend of Dragoon a couple years back. Still a personal fav rpg to this day
This is why I like Josh Strife hayes. He likes the og stuff
Y'all got any treats?
Maybe she would have found enjoyment in life without becoming an influencer? Seems pretty over rated
First robotics is the bomb. The energy from the teams at events is really similar to what racing teams would have when I was go karting or dirt biking.First robotics has definitely inspired a whole generation of modders/fabricators/coders and more
The kind you can kick out of your barn/house after a few months ๐
The mad dash used to be a Canadian Tv show!
Great thinking with the streamer. I have been thinking about 3d printing a little foot to widen out my kickstand in the future just for parking in wet spots. Stay safe out there!
Nothing like waking up to a bike keeled over on its stand in the mud. Been there done that a few times moto camping ๐
It was buried under a large snowfall and still started up just fine after one pull. I was really impressed with it. Haven't tried the electric start out yet!
Feel free to peruse some of my past posts for videos if you are interested in more goose content. I try to post them and others regularly, this was just too cute of a photo to not share
Roman the goose was actually hatched by a farmer's turkey and only a couple days old when I brought him and his brother home. They are incredibly friendly now after being around people their whole lives. I'd give the wild ones their space though!
My mother started out with a duck like that who would walk inside the house looking for her and would follow her around the yard. It inspired me to start raising my own ducks. I got goslings originally to raise with the ducks to be protectors for them but I was blown away with how smart and loving goslings are. They have been a true gift to raise
Nesting boxes is a great way to bring them in! Even after I moved from my moms property with the flock I left my nesting boxes up in hopes they might be used somedayDo you find yourself missing that spot or have you found a new nature getaway?
That's wild I didn't even know that! Truly a golden age of computing back then
They are usually a rare sight to see so I can see why many people don't believe they exist. They are in the same "family" of ducks as the Mandarin duck so it's not like they are some impossibly conceived oddity. It wasn't until that I got the Mandarin ducks that the hens chirping would bring in the surrounding wood ducks from the area. Seeing them out on the water while kayaking must have been a real treat!
I remember rocking the original Battlenet 2FA keychain back in late highschool early college. That was my fav iteration of it.
Shout-out to all the parents that held onto their old Atari's Etc. Finding that stuff was like finding treasure as a kid
