When I originally searched "are scammers in India held against their will" this was a quote from the Guardian: "Jitu was, nevertheless, the “chief scammer” of the village – a title he wore with pride." Sounds like there's a lot of bad shit in Cambodia and Myanmar though, you're right, estimates of 100k in a single city. Scary.
I think people are angry because it's (possibly?) linked to gun violence. I, like you, initially thought it was just more first aid kits for general injuries.
sources? I have never heard this side of the story. Most of the videos I see of people messing with scammers don't seem held against their will...just scamming the elderly for profit. But I guess I don't really know that for sure tbh

Well, time to be THAT guy, sorry! Maratus volans looks pretty different from that one, I think it's a Maratus gemmifer? But they're all super cool, thanks for posting either way :)
It's a fairly new discovery, that's why! We had known of the species (M. volans) for a while, but no one had seen their courtship before 2008. We knew they had little flaps, but didn't think they were used in mating displays. They used to be called 'gliding spiders' with the thought the flaps were used for gliding lol There are over 100 species of these little guys described now, really made a big splash in the spider world. LOTS of good content on youtube to search through ::::)
i thought OP was making a play on "in a while, crocodile", but it seems like it was not intentional.
e.g. in the movie "Idiocracy", everyone wore crocs because the costume designer had a limited budget and thought they were too ugly to actually become popular.
