The heat, then clean the stone, and pour the melted iron ....the heating is to prevent the stone from cracking
Also take a look how they heat the stones before to cast the clamp (the first guy on the left).
This is how they used to connect stone blocks in the walls, reinforcing them with iron. Some of the walls survived thousands of years...
