I can’t edit my post for whatever reason but I wanted to add that I think people took her “I think I had a crush on you but I grew up first” as literal instead of her trying to convince herself. I mean the entire series is about people lying to themselves and others about their feelings to avoid getting hurt and the consequences of that. She realizes that Shinji isn’t in a place to recognize or return her feelings so she tries to convince herself that she’s over him.
18 pages of hitting you over the head with how she still has feelings for him and misses him (even Mari recognizes this) but people insist that she’s totally over him.
