It's possible it's a redacted story. I would hope any journalist worth their salt would edit it to explicitly say that at the start of the article and assume responsibility rather than taking it down completely though.

I'm from the northeast and am speaking from my knowledge of that particular history. In that region, Native Americans had the Iroquois Confederacy and the Great Law of Peace.
I think the closest thing might have been Native America as in many multitudes of small tribes with their own ways of being, but living with an overarching peace pact generally, aside some inevitable skirmishes. Modern geography forces too many people into one singular culture, rule, and ideology.
