Sure it wasn't March 4th?
Like roller skates, they have a rubber piece that sticks out as a break. On roller skates, it's on the front and round, roller blades have it on the back and it's usually hard edge/squared off. I always found it easier to break with the front/toe instead of heel... so I too usually rolled into stuff to stop on roller blades
