Bought some recently from Amazon. The new recipe is bad: all the flavor is gone after maybe 10 seconds.

I think it just gets the remaining fat hot, which in turn crisps the bacon. Or something like that. Not an engineer; I just love bacon.
zig zag pattern. 45 seconds in the microwave to get nice chewy one or 1.5 minutes for crispy. And I strain and save all the fat for frying.
I solved this problem for myself by buying 3lbs at a time and baking it all in the oven, then freezing it wrapped in food plastic, 1/2
