Dire Straits: Dire Straits. Been one of those weeks, need that brilliantly mellow vibe of Mark Knopfler’s guitar and Dire Straits. Bonus - my youngest son gave me this album.
AC/DC Back in Black. My favourite hard rock album - every track has that fierce beat. Probably a top 10 album for me.
Twisted Sister: Stay Hungry. Loved this album since it came out. Dee Snider is a hero.Always played LOUDLY!
Gordon Lightfoot: Summertime Dream.A fave since I was a kid. Gordon was an amazing songwriter and singer. Someone whose music instanly makes me feel better. He is very missed.
Johnny Cash With His Hot And Blue Guitar. I’ve wanted a copy of this for years. This is the new Intervention Records 45rpm release. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Tunng: Songs You Make At Night. A favourite since I first heard them at Moseley Folk 20 years ago. Hard to describe - elctronic folk music with depth, maybe? Very highly recommended.
Supertramp: Even In The Quietest Moments. Finishing the evening with a more mellow classic. My brother made a tape of this for me way back when. Still listening to the album.
Dire Straits: Love Over Gold. Because one Dire Straits album is never enough and because this album has my favourite song of their’s - Telegraph Road. Perfection.
Frank Turner: Tape Deck Heart. Frank’s is a song writer who seems to be able to express how I feel (or have felt) way better than I can. And one of the best live acts I’ve ever heard.
Pretty In Pink OST. Good movie, great soundtrack! Very 80s so brirngs back a lot of memories. I think the Suzanne Vega track is my fave. This is the 2026 reissue.
Chicago: V. Love the fusion sound - very 70s but it still works. Great musicianship. And great music!
The Cars: The Cars. I’ve had this album since it came out - weirdly timeless. Moving In Stereo has been my favourite on the album since it came out. This is the RHF pressing. I also have the MoFi and keep meaning to do a shoot-out of the two.
Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band: Night Moves. My sister gave me a copy of this album when I was a little kid in Michigan. Been spinning it ever since. Fantastic album!
The Stooges: Fun House. This us the RHF pressing. Pre-ordered this ages ago and it’s finally here. Protopunk? Hard rock? Insanity? Being from Michigan, this music is in my blood.
Richard Thompson: Mirror Blue. One of my favourite guitarists and songwriters. “Beeswing” is a fantastic tune but the whole album is great.
Santana: Abraxas. Sometimes this is the perfect music - sorta mellow psychedelic latin vibe. Midweek-bliss.
Chicago: Chicago V. To me, this album is going to the park with my friends to play frisbee and hang out with all the other people. It’s the perfect album For those days. Sometimes I really miss them!
The Magpie Arc: Gil Brenton. Not sure how to describe this - a folk supergroup that rocks out? A modern Steeleye (complete with a guest appearance from the amazing Maddy Prior)? All I know is this is a brilliant album which I will be playing often.
Ye Vagabonds: All Tied Together. Can’t have too much of a good thing. Love their music - the harmonies especially but also the arrangements. Heard them live last year and it was a fantastc gig.
The Pixies: Bossanova. Another favourite live band. Fantastic shows and I always left feeling wrecked. This is probably my fave album of there’s. Weird, I know.
The Doobie Brothers: Toulouse Street. Full nostalgia mode - grew up in the 70s with an older brother and sister, both of whom introduced me to some great music including this. Perfect 70s music.
The Grateful Dead: Live / Dead. Perfect album to finish the evening on. The Dead are one of my 7 faves. It’s music to lose yourself in, only to find your way. Hard to explain. Just listen.
Green Day: American Idiot. Haven’t spun this in ages. Brilliant album from a brilliant group. More relevant today than ever.
R.E.M. Monster. I haven’t spun this in ages and I have no idea why. R.E.M. rock on this album. Love it. Though I hate the remaster - this is an original pressing. The remaster lacks punch.
Martha Tilston: Nomad. Ok, I lied. Hard for me to stop listening to music once I start. First heard Marth Tilston at Moseley Folk in 2006. Ethereal and hopeful music. Much needed.
The Velvet Underground & Nico. I’ve loved this album since I first heard it yonks ago. Then I found out it came out on the day I was born and I liked it even more. This pressing sounds amazing but I don’t have an OG (top of the want list) to compare it to
The Cranberries: No Need To Argue. “Zombie” has been playing in my head since the war in Iran started. That song gives me chills everytime I hear it.
Supertramp: Breakfast in America. I know this came out in 1979, but it sounds very 80s to me. Great arrangements, great vocals and harmonies, and a lot of fun. This is the new half-speed remaster.
Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind. A voice like old whisky telling fantastic tales. Perfect way to end the evening.
Lou Reed: Ecstasy. Haven’t spun this in ages. Saw Lou in Edinburgh when he was touring this album. Great gig for a great album. I alway think his later albums are very underrated.
The Smithereens: Green Thoughts. Another band i always thought would be bigger. Currently this is the only album of theirs I have - keeping my eyes open for more albums.
System Of A Down: System Of A Down. Time for some LOUD music!!!!!!
Sarah McLachlan: Better Broken. Mellow vibe on a Friday evening after a rough week, Beautiful album!
Slade: Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply. Sometimes i need loud. Slade is fantastic, especially loud. I feel better now!
Bob Dylan: Unplugged. Reissued today so glad to get a copy. Love the versions of all Dylan’s songs on this - the band was great and he was in brilliant form.
The Pentangle: Basket of Light. Such a hippy record and so much more. Multilayered and beautiful; music to lose one’s self in completely.
The Grateful Dead: Aoxomoxoa. Going full hippie now. We could really use more hippiness of late. An album to lose your mind and find yourself in.
imon and Garfunkel: Bridge Over Troubled Water. I’ve owned a copy of this almost as long as I can remember. From the first song to the last, a masterpiece.
The Beatles: Let It Be. Been listening to this album for over 50 years now (jeez how did that happen????). Always loved it. One of my favourite Beatles albums. This is my UK second pressing.
Bob Weir: Blue Mountain. One of the most peaceful albums I know. Perfect for stress relief and making life seem better.
Jefferson Airplane: Surrealistic Pillow. Another great San Francisco band. Still remember - vaguely - the first time i heard this. Memories!
Bob Dylan; MTV Unplugged. Been listening to his Bobness for a long time and his music means a lot. But every time I listen I hear something new and appreciate him more. Music is powerful stuff.
The Pogues: Rum, Sodomy & The Lash. F**k. RIP Andrew Ranken.
Ye Vagabonds: Nine Waves. Some beautiful Irish music to start a Saturday evening.
Tunng: Comments Of The Inner Chorus. Loved this band since I heard them at Moseley Folk in 2006. Folktronica for lack of a better term. Potent stuff.
R.E.M. Document. Saw them on tour at Michigan State for this in 1987 with 10,000 Maniacs opening for them. Still the best gig I’ve ever been to.
Tom Petty: Full Moon Fever. A great musician who left us way too soon. This is such a great album - and he made a lot of those.
Lankum: Ghost Town. Midweek music starting with a 12” single. Don’t listen singles much but this a fantastic cover by a band that I love. With a cool etching on the B side.
Beth Orton: Weather Alive. More music to chill out to. The more I listen to Beth Orton’s music, the more I like it.
10,000 Maniacs: In My Tribe. Perfect way to follow R.E.M. A fave from university (and beyond). “Verdi Cries” is sublime.
Beth Orton: Trailer Park. Perfect late-night-just-poured-another-glass-of-bourbon music. Her voice just pulls me in. I’m definitely a fan.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience: Axis: Bold As Love (Stereo). Man, I’ve been waiting for this since I preordered it in September. Fantastic album that sounds even better on this pressing. The souncd comes at you from everywhere!
Traveling Willburys: Volume One. I love this album, it’s so good and fun. Just lifts my spirit whenever I hear it.
Martha Tilston: Machines of Love and Grace. More music to get lost in. Gives me a space to relax in and Martha Tilston’s music is perfect for that.
Heart: Dreamboat Annie. Finishing the evening off with the Wilson sisters. Great vocals and guitar - and fantastic songs. Music for late night.
Natalie Mechant: Motherland. Been a long week. And it’s only Wednesday. This is perfect to relax to - Natalie’s voice is so rich that I get lost.
Gin Blossoms: New Miserable Experience. Definitely on an alternative kick tonight. Such a great album - always thought they would be much bigger than they were.
