It's quite likely that the answer to the question of why he's not giving all this money away is that he's not got the money anymore

I think the possibility is that the series was unstable and they needed this series to be the last one.

Is it so hard to imagine empathy? That someone can walk past homeless people in the street and resent that society permits that to happen?
