Do you think trump would stop funding the Israeli military?
I mean, with the advent of streaming services we're at the stage where musicians barely get paid for their recorded tracks that we can listen to freel, so maybe not quite the best argument. Records and CDs were steps along the way to where we are now

I think it's perfectly reasonable to be critical of GMOs from a business or economic standpoint. Those companies are huge, and at least w Monsanto have a history of suing smaller operations when some gmo seed accidentally ends up on their property

No dude. Manslaughter is a lesser charge, involved in accidental deaths, or when malice isnt part of it. Murder is intentional and planned. Rape is a specific type of sexual assault

Agree with that. If you're in the US doing a research based program they should pay you a (shitty) stipend and cover tuition. That's true for most MS and PhD programs. I don't think doing a PhD is the best route for everyone though (I have an MS in biology and was paid in grad school)
Honestly it sounds like you were able to maintain healthy boundaries in a difficult situation. Because of that it seems like you are preserving the relationship. Right now you're not hanging out, but maybe that could change if they get help. It's okay to pump the brakes when relationships are damaging to your mental health, even if your friend is going through it worse
I think you just need to tell them what's up--they asked you to adopt the cat and you can't really walk that back. Hopefully you can do that in a kind and compassionate way, and that they are reasonable about it and don't get mad. Maybe they can visit the kitty sometimes if y'all live nearby
