No. He hardly had any screen time and when he did it consisted of his wife being a bitch to him or him not being able to pay the bills. 1/2
I have a female friend who does this, she claims she can't sit and watch a movie and do nothing else. It's boring, she has to multitask.
The show is good on its own, but once I read the books. I think the show should be 2 hour eps, or 20 eps a season.

Sounds like Storm of Swords finishes up the sub plots started in the first two books and Feast for Crows sets up new sub plots.
