Proto-sami people originated mostly from the ural mountain but the sami people is indigenous to Northern Scandinavia/Kola. Same as how proto-Swedish people originate partially from Iran but is indigenous to Southern Sweden. The parts a people is indigenous to is the lands they developed in, not the lands they came from before.
While I won't speak about consistency or armour, but as for colour yellow is the easiest dye to make and the colour most peasants would already have dyed their clothes in, probably.
