So, 5 of my top 10 comments contain something along the lines of "As a lesbian". I'm not sure if this is cool because of acceptance or worrisome because things that contain the word 'lesbian' seem to earn me automatic upvotes, which isn't cool. Although reputation is ultimately unimportant, upvotes do mean something, even if what they mean is only that people approve of what you've said or done. I don't people to like what I say because I prefaced it with the fact that I'm a lesbian. I have also made some posts about feminism. I'm not one of the types of feminists that go "Women should be treated better!" or "Women are superior than men!" I believe that all people should be treated equally, man, woman, gay, straight, the mentally or physically disabled, celebrities, Olympians, politicians, and average Joes. In this regards, those who are gay, like me, those with diseases, those with infirmities, those with difficult upbringings, and all others, regardless of any quirk or their history, should be judged based on what they say and do, for good or for bad. That is not to say that we should turn away from those who have struggled, and ignore what they have been through. If a person has had cancer, and fought it, that is incredible. If a person had parents who did not set a good example for them, but they decided to be a better person themselves, that is incredible. If a person had a drug addiction and is trying to curb it, that is incredible. These things are worthy of support. I'm a lesbian, but that doesn't matter, what matters is what I am doing with my life. That goes for all of us. We all had our experiences, some you may think of as unique, or you may think that you've lived an average life, and that there's nothing special about you. Either way, it's irrelevant. There are things you can do, things you should do, things you are doing, both now and in the future. Those are the things that are important. Those are the things that you should judge others for, and judge yourself based on. ---------------------------------------------------- Now that we've passed my big load of morality, I feel pretty hypocritical in describing myself here. As mentioned above, I'm a lesbian. I'm currently engaged to my girlfriend of 6 years. I'm 5'5", and I'm severely underweight. I won't go into the details on that, because they're not really important. I'm a mechanical engineer, and I work at a fabrication shop. Our bread and butter money comes largely from welding and fabricating random mechanical parts, either as replacements or for special uses. We also have an R&D department, which works via contract to design and build various machines, occasionally government, but usually not. It's not my place to go into more detail on what we do. I'm the head of a small welding/manufacturing crew of 5 people, myself included. I largely am responsible for division of labor and quality checking among us, though I do some welding and cutting myself. It's not easy for me, on account of my lack of size, and subsequent lack of strength. I'm 23 years old. I'm extremely geeky. I watch superhero movies, read some of the comics, play videogames, read wikipedia on random science stuff, read science magazines, I was the president of my high school robotics club, and I participated in science competitions in high school. I make lots of science and engineering posts, and I talk about videogames and comics. I'm absolutely not the most knowledgeable person on any of these subjects, I just try to teach what I know, or at least think I know. I usually try to do some research about claims I make before I post them, but I don't necessarily interpret what I read perfectly, and I'm generally not actually educated on the subject. While I think I'm more accurate than many talk about science things on here, take what I say with a healthy amount of skepticism. If it's something interesting to you, do your own research on it. Oh god how did this wind up so long?

Up through september, 3%. As of August, unemployment is 4.3%. The number for GDP given is likely meant to be annual GDP growth, which can fluctuate a lot. As of last quarter it was 3.8%, raised significantly by a ~10% reduction in imports, which count against GDP.

It's easier to blame the poor people for not working hard enough to stop being poor than it is to recognize when you've been duped and you're never going to get rich no matter how hard you work.

Yeah. The real complaint is that the nice thing that used to be affordable no longer is, and the only thing affordable is built to last only long enough that for one reason or another you don't try to repair it.

The fascists among us will only see black people as part of their people when the black people vote to give them power, and even then it will only last as long as the fascists are in a position where they could lose their power. Truth be told, they already see Black people the same as they see everybody else. If you were useful to them, you would be the group they propped up. But Christian fundamentalists and racists are easier to manipulate and use.

That's not to throw shade at the game. I really like it, and I love that they did try to pay respect to real things the bugs do while prioritizing making a fun game first and foremost.

On a side note, IMO the bombardier beetles in game feel a bit lackluster compared to the heat they're packing in real life.

Rather than accurately portrayed, the bug abilities in grounded are all drawn from real things. But they're far from accurate, really. Like almost all the bugs have some sort of mouth, where as a lot of them, such as aphids and stinkbugs, should have a proboscis. Orbweaver spiders are a diverse group, so I don't know that this is the case for every single species of them, but most would almost never be walking on the ground, and very few spiders raise their young to any degree.

I think the wording is not great. Her chest definitely is an issue here. Not as much her boobs, but rather her ribcage. That hole is 2.4 feet x 8.7 inches. Her shoulders will obviously have to align with the wider direction, so the chest needs to fit in 22 cm. That's really not a lot. For the majority of women, nearly all the space would be needed just for the ribcage without the breasts even being considered, and she doesn't look exceptionally petit, so she's probably right on the edge

Nic Cage, from what I have seen and heard, seems to have a tendency to decide how he is going to play a character while often being pretty tone-deaf to how it will come across. He's absolutely nailed it a few times, where his character 100% works for the film, but he misses a lot.

Tim Curry has a talent for getting himself involved in projects that are intentionally so bad they're good. Red Alert 3 was written to be a parody of cheesy game stories. I would hardly call it terrible material, because it's so fucking funny watching A-list actors and celebrities read the most insane shit ever.

I mean there's a conceptual legitimacy to the idea that investigating Hunter potentially being able to show some corruption from Joe Biden. It's just that they've done that, and didn't find any corruption. They found Hunter intentionally using his dad's position to get high positions, while Joe seems to have had little to no awareness of this, and gave no intentional assistance to Hunter in doing this. There's also no evidence of Joe himself receiving benefits from Hunter's company position.

They definitely do get held to a higher standard, but higher than Boebert doesn't mean an actually high standard. If Kevin McCarthy had referred to Ilhan Omar as the "Jihad squad" and said "I look to my left and there she is, Ilhan Omar, and I said, ‘Well she doesn’t have a backpack, we should be fine'" like Boebert has, he would absolutely get blasted and lose basically all his influence in the party. Boebert and MTG get a pass because they're crazy, and they both still have actual influence.

It's also been experimentally determined that at least some types of ants count their steps, and have an idea of when and where they will find their home as they follow their trail back, based on how many steps they took going out. It could also just be that the ants notice they've been walking way too long and change their behavior eventually. That could also be why it's army ants, which don't form permanent homes and on average travel further while foraging, that are prone to these ant mills

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Important to note that most of the time these ant mills do not result in the ants dying. They don't just purely follow the pheromone trail, but can choose to split off and explore new paths, and they also pay attention to gradients in pheromone concentration. I don't know exactly how or why they break the death spirals, but if I would hazard a guess, a combination of the concentration of pheromones and the tendency of those signals to diffuse leads them to eventually notice something's not right

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As far as I know, this has only ever been observed in Army Ants, who are all blind or nearly blind. That combined with their nomadic lifestyle seems to lead them to be more heavily reliant on pheromone signals, and also to try somewhat random means to maneuver around obstacles. That can cause them to sometimes loop back on themselves and begin to follow the pheromone trail of further back ants following their trail.

To contextualize, my cat was almost 30 pounds and proportionately sized, not overweight.

what I see is that often times the anti-abortion people do not react as negatively to war or genocide, so needless death isn't the motivator
