I've come to think that my 1st instinct is often how I've been trained/ conditioned to act or respond. The 2nd is often softer and more 'me', the number of times I've regretted my 1st reaction to situations is unbelievable. I dont think i've mellowed in my age, I've just learnt not to react instantly. So by the time you're 3/4 the way through your comment, you've thought, 'Meh, dont really care enough,' or 'yeah, dont really mean that'
