The more conservative part is regressive, reactionary, and has members who would tear down society rather than see some people have equal protection under the law. Someone who would seek find a “middle ground” between these two parties is already starting in the right-of-center and looking to find common ground with an authoritarian-sympathetic party and asking the rest of us to be okay with a certain level of suffering and discrimination so the fascist don’t get their feelings hurt.
In countries that have diverse representations, there can be actual left, center, and right political parties. In the US, we are locked in a two-party system. The US does not have a “far left” party; but we have a far-right party. The more liberal of our two parties would be considered center or center-left in other parts of the world, but with a few members who lean more left and a few that are actually center-right. 1/
