I love making science, tech, and futuristic GIFs when I am not writing about tech

Google seems to be doing this on purpose to encourage more ad spend? There is no way they are this bad by accident or due to lack of talent. Seems to me they have intentionally dumbed down their engine, so it doesn't understand user intent.

her name is Tuxy by the way. She usually doesn't react to these kinds of toys.

I too had to escape my country and Americans have been amazing to me and my family. But I'd love to go back home at some point. She is a great player. She used to cover chess events with Yasser Seirawan?

you are not wrong :)

sound about right. I think maybe Fidelity Chesster 6126 "Eyeball" model was the most expensive one because it had a stronger engine, talked, and also had a presence sensor. Sometimes I order these old boards and they have brochures from 1980s. It's fascinating to see those things.

If I am not mistaken, it was under $1000. I know regular chess computers with no robotic movement were going for $495.

I think that is the Phantom Force. This was from Fidelity Electronics.

Excalibur Mirage and Phantom Force are both smaller. Same approach. I am kind of surprised that nobody tried making a tiny neat chess robot, not even after the online chess boom in 2020-22 period.

I have this one. Was it really $500? I don't remember. I do know these old chess computers used to be way overpriced but then again, these were so cool at the time. Now, your phone beats all of them them and Magnus Carlsen too

Thank you. These gadgets got me into kitten rescue :) We feed them, get them their shots and neuter/spay or find homes for them. In fact, these days, I spend more time on that than testing any gadgets. Right now we have about 15 that hopefully will have a home soon.

I take my gadgets outside to test. I took this outside once and all backyard cats were fascinated by it. It gave me the idea to do it with everything else :) I feed them the most expensive cat food as their reward.

These were super expensive in the late 80s. A talking version was released later, it is called Chesster. It also had a presence sensor. Square Off is similar but from 2019. I am surprised we have not had better chess robots after all these years.

fascinating. We have something similar back home but it's with nuts and things like that. I am not a fan of those. I grew up eating rice.

I am sure it can be used for them but on their site, they say it is also for young adults. :)

I think ETH Zurich built an advanced version that does just that

it's a standard KUKA robot. You can attach other things to it of course :)

With AI and robots, I'd give it 10 years. I suppose we can become astronauts and go build on Mars :)
