HVAC tech in South Carolina used to work for da gubment. Grew up in Clear Alaska.
Not religious. At all. Spirituality isn’t the same thing. It’s not for everyone dharma recovery and smart recovery are good alternatives. I think some people saying they had “had enough” and were willing to make the change is a big part of it. For me meetings help. I did have to square myself with finding my conscious concept of a higher power was. A good number of atheists in the rooms and for some of them the higher power is the people in the rooms. Others it’s recovery itself.
Passive suicidal ideation is a real thing that can lead to planning and active ideation no shame in talking to someone about it. Take care.
